To all D&D fans - what are the top 3 specific changes 4e needs in your opinion

Delta, Raven Crowking - I think the OP is looking for constructive answers, not threadcrapping. Let's try to avoid that, OK?

LCD monitor with a single DVI-D input, multiple nightmares... any advice?

Even cycling power might help. Some equipment is set to recognize inputs when powered on, but not if the input is switched (this happens to me sometimes with some USB devices) and powering hte monitor up again might force it to recgnize the new input. Old AV guy trick...

LCD monitor with a single DVI-D input, multiple nightmares... any advice?

Also, are you sure you're actually getting no input, or is it possible you need to hit an input button on your monitor to get it to refresh the input? It may need some prompting since the signal has changed... cycling through the inputs might do the trick.

    What is "Quintessence"?

I believe that whoever came up with it in the 2E days was probably thinking along those lines; I only just made the connection, probably due to having been re-reading Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, in which quicksilver (or mercury) figures frequently, including being the name of the first...

    What is "Quintessence"?

I'm running a psionic-based adventure, and I plan on using this substance in it, and possibly developing it further. However, in order to really get a good handle on it, I thought I'd draw on the collective wisdom of the internet (is that an oxymoron?). So what is "quintessence"? In D&D...

    attack of opportunity from jumping?

And incidentally, if that is the case it would be a 5 ft standing high jump, with a DC of 40. And still provoke an AoO.

Where 3E and 4E players stand in the great 3E disputes

    1. Psionics: Good or Bad? GOOD - though there are some balance issues. 2. Tome of Battle: The antichrist or best thing that ever happened? MEH - though it has some interesting bits, and to be fair I don't own the book. 3. Fighter Sux: Yes or No? NO - I think fighters are very customizable, and...

What happened to all the posts?

That was ages and ages ago, though. You might want to ask this question in Meta, as I don't know quite how to answer it. Any recent posts should certainly still be around - the links might have changed somewhat in the changeover to ENWorld2, however.

Using an HDTV as a PC monitor?

I just tried (and rejected) this system. A couple of caveats - it could have worked in the right setup, I think. 1 - my HDTV is a 2-year old Panasonic 42" 720p plasma. Not the ideal monitor, as the resolution is lower than ideal. If you're buying 1080p, you'll do better. Also, my monitor...

Any other Judges Guild fans here?

My favorite was a Paul Jaquays adventure from one of the Books of Treasure Maps called the Lone Tower. It suffered from fewer of the old 1E oddities than most adventures of that time... apart from the magic six-sider that turned you into a were wolf, of course...

    Diverting Teleportation

There is a Divert Teleport psionic power in the XPH. Monte Cook's Complete Book of Eldritch Might contains a number of teleport-related spells - I think there is a divert teleport kind of spell in there, as well as a trace teleport spell, too.

Ratio of wizards in a population?

Turns out Alzrius link appraoches the issue from the same angle I was using - except with a lot more detail.

Ratio of wizards in a population?

One approach that I've used in the past is to treat an army like a village/town/city of comparable size, and then use the 3E DMG demographics - except that I replace a lot of the commoners, etc with warriors (more or less, depending on how well trained the bulk of the army is). That gives a...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

This is very possibly true; WoTC folks have often said that books are in prep well over a year before they come out, so any feedback from the 4E release will not show up in products until fall of '09 at the earliest. I personally would be thrilled if this happens. There is a LOT about 4E that...

    Editable Calendar with Notes?

Huh, whaddaya know. That bites! I searched for the site, and found it so I assumed it was functioning, but you're absolutely right. Back to original post subject - I've also used the built in Calendar maker function in Word for calendar making; the good thing about this is that its editable...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

As Psion puts it - modularity. They could allow variations of the core rules to be created that would allow for more "realistic" styles of play (without 1st level characters being able to teleport all over the place, for example). I think this would be a very easy thing to do with 4E, but the...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

This is my take on the reason for the break in continuity as well. In order to pull some of the IP back under their own control, WoTC needed to make a clean enough break with 3.x and previous versions of D&D that previous products would be unusable with the new system. I suspect that this is...

    Editable Calendar with Notes?

I've used this calendar maker for a while: http://www.irony.com/mkcal.html It outputs a very simple file, which I will sometimes import into Excel to pretty up a little. Its highly customizable.

Best way to hijack a mindflayer ship?

A couple quick thoughts - for piloting I'd take a page from Spelljammer and have a Helm (literally in this case a helmet) that requires mental energy to manouever the ship - Minid Flayers would have a big advantage here obviously. If you can find a copy of "Airships" its got lots of good stats...

4E Battlemaps and semi realistic buildings?

This is the approach I would go for. Allow for lots of movement between areas which are themselves realistically proportioned. Unrealistic maps are one of my pet peeves. Throw people out windows, let powerful monsters smash holes in walls, make the battlefield interesting - multiple small...
