    [LPF] The Devil We Know

The halfling who has so recently crashed through the door to the inn lightly clears her throat, continuing to dust herself off and fuss with her hair. "Hey, so, I might've overhead you guys talking while I was outside, so..." Her voice trails off. "But like I said, I'm Lydia! I'm an explorer...

    Character Submission Thread

What I have already written needs some work, but... will be interesting. I need to do a bit more research to tie it into what's already been done, but that shouldn't take all that long. Huzzah for a project for the weekend. Haha, well let's hope I don't run into him for a few levels... :)...

    Character Submission Thread

Ah, poor reading of the rules on my part, there. Okay. ...ah, okay. I see what you did there. That looks alright, I suppose. Hmm. Fair enough. As I said upthread, I planned on going through the proper channels re deity at a later point. My bad. Having now given her a heavy mace, I...

[Tavern Thread] The Dunn Wright Inn

Lydia, Halfling Ranger The door to the inn suddenly flies open as a young halfling woman falls through it with a crash. An exasperated expression on her face, she looks up and sees a crowd standing above her. "Oh. Um... hi?" She stammers, somewhat awkwardly, as she gets up off the floor...

    Character Submission Thread

Ah. I had read - not sure about source - that deities could be added ad-hoc. I threw that in with the understanding that I would do a full proposal thing at a later date (this isn't my first rodeo, as my title at left would suggest), but can change it for now if problematic. Well... that's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a Hot Rod: What I miss most in D&D Next

YMMV. That's just my take on it. It depends on the player. Not all players are driven by the same things. In the games I play in, some of them I think about almost constantly through the week, some I put a little bit of thought into throughout the week, while others I sort of dread going into...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a Hot Rod: What I miss most in D&D Next

Um... near as I can tell, there is nothing mechanically that players can tinker with between sessions (or during them, even, really) to "keep their attention." I'd argue that if you need to keep players focused on the game by allowing them to tinker with mechanics between games, then... there...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a Hot Rod: What I miss most in D&D Next

So long as your approach remains this idea of finding some combination of mechanics that yields better results, I am dubious that 5e will fulfill that to any reasonable degree. The argument at present is that Mearls and co. are still working on the basics, which - to effectively achieve their...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a Hot Rod: What I miss most in D&D Next

Because to the old-school mindset, options = power-gaming. Most of the "hardcore" old-school crowd (that I talk to, anyway; YMMV) see a direct correlation between options and people making what they view as overpowered characters.

Feat similar to Practiced Spellcaster, but for BAB?

I actually don't see anything wrong with this. If a feat that allows you to boost your caster level by + 4, to a max of your HD, isn't broken, then surely a feat that boosts your BAB by + 4, to a max of your HD, can't be broken, by virtue of "linear fighters quadratic wizards." This would even...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you want out of 5E/Next?

Y'know, I started a thread trying to push that line of thinking awhile back. Folk didn't take to it well...

Pathfinder 1E Of Scrolls and Sorcerers.

To expand on that: no. Sorcerers gain new spells through leveling, not through any other means (to my knowledge, at any rate).

    D&D 5E (2014) Should 5E Characters be MAD?

You know, MAD could be averted - to some degree - with stronger mechanical support for the exploration and interaction pillars... In regards to combat, it would be nice to have every class rely on at least two ability scores. SAD is too easily abused with built-in stat increases with level gain.

D&D 5E (2014) Explain your Modular Class Ideas

Except that the idea of differing complexity and styles, even among players at the same table, has been a stated goal of 5e. It seems like having AEDU alongside Vancian alongside whatever else is an end goal. I don't think this turns D&D into GURPS - I think it says, "here's everything D&D has...

    D&D 5E (2014) Expertise Dice = Vancian Magic = ADEU

I'd argue that to maintain the idea of "class," it must retain some mechanical functionality. Description is well and good, but D&D has always been a relatively mechanically-heavy game, and attempting to divorce the crunch from the fluff - to this extreme - doesn't seem tenable. However, how...

    D&D 5E (2014) Exploration Rules You'd Like To See

While I like the "supplies/day" concept, it feels insufficiently granular. I would like some kind of attempt to distinguish between things like food and repair supplies. You can gather more food, but you can't necessarily manufacture new iron nails out on the road. Representing both of those...
