How do people handle finding enemy spellbooks?

Even so, don't each of the nearly identical spellbooks all have a decent resale value? (it might take a little legwork to sell them in different cities, but still...)

    Humor Art: DnD Cartoon

10 years and no drops? Man, the DM is a $*@!

How do people handle finding enemy spellbooks?

I have a 4th level wizard with the minimum # of spells. At some point, I will hopefully answer this question.

    Why play human?

In the runtime timeframe, the only problem I have is the lack of low light vision. In the long run, the shorter lifespan is an issue if you also associate with elves. But then again, most campaigns don't focus on the long run so this is largely irrelevant. In most campaign settings being human...

    Hit Points--A study of humanoids.

D&D 4e made a conscious effort to decrease the amount of number crunching by the DM. As a result humanoid monsters eventually have many more HP than their PC equivalents. But then again, they do not have dailies, encounter powers or (most of the time) magic items with their own triggered powers...

    How do they survive?

Nah, cats do less damage when they crit.

    How do they survive?

How does that work if they can't inflict any but nonlethal damage?

    How do they survive?

I'm pretty sure that attacks that do less than one HP of damage actually inflict nonlethal damage instead...

    How do they survive?

This is probably a dumb question, but here goes... So, a cat does 1d2-4 or 1d3-4 damage with claw or bite attacks. So, given that cats are obligate carnivores and need to eat freshly killed prey, how do they ever kill anything?

Is D&D all about murder and pillaging?

Murdering and pillaging are loaded terms. Certainly there is a lot of killing things and taking stuff in D&D. Most of it isn't murder and pillage. As has been pointed out a long time ago, it's not murder if it's trying to kill you, too. It's not murder if there is no way of stopping it from...

Hero System Vs. Mutants & Masterminds. Which is the better super-hero game?

I prefer HERO. If you don't want to gamble big bux on a system you may not end up liking why don't you grab a old copy of Champions for 5 dollars and see if you like it. I find 3rd edition and earlier in bargain bins all the time. It's gotten much more comprehensive since then, but the core...

Why DON'T people like guns in D&D?

Yeah, because the historical records clearly document the effects of bullets on orcs. Historical simulationism and D&D? down that road lies only madness.

Why DON'T people like guns in D&D?

It doesn't matter one bit if a bullet can pierce platemail or not. A dagger can't pierce platemail and nobody gives a damn that you can still stab a fighter in full plate to death.

    Catch Those Apes!

The ending should be at a building under construction where there is a gorilla at the top who rolls barrels down the scaffolding at the heroes. Some of the barrels get to a burning oil barrel and out come flaming spheres. Luckily, somebody left a hammer hanging around that can destroy barrels...

Bonded objects and familiars. Are they balanced?

P78. Amulet, ring, staff, wand or weapon. Amulet or ring must be worn to work (taking up a magic item slot) staff, wand or weapon must be wielded (taking up a slot) Or you could leave your bonded item at home and make a concentration check 20+spell level every time you try to cast any spell...

Problems with removing attacks of opportunity?

Here's the point. It only makes sense that PCs and monsters both act as if they were aware of the logical consequences of the rules as enforced. If AOO is in the game, then it makes sense for monsters to act accordingly and not recklessly rush past the front line fighters in a mad dash for the...

Problems with removing attacks of opportunity?

Hard to cast spells whilst bleeding out.

Problems with removing attacks of opportunity?

If a game lacked AOO, everything with a brain would just rush the casters and cut them to pieces. No wizard would ever survive to 2nd level. Why would an intelligent foe ever attack anyone with a high AC when there were low AC targets with good DPR on the field?

    What makes us House Rule?

The reason that they are not the same is that making stuff up (when there is no existing rule to cover what you are adding) does not interfere or interact with the game system in the same way as houseruling. When you make stuff up, you are adding things outside of the game system. If what you...

Uh, no thanks, I'll play this instead.

Munchkin - I'd rather play the 'watch the paint dry' game than munchkin. That Killer Bunnies game - ditto. Arkham Horror - depends on what expansions are in play and if that one guy is coming...
