    Red Box: Some Constructive Criticism

Wow, sarcasm. That's original. Two pages for each class and three to four pages of more detailed equipment would have gone a long way to making a lot more people happy with this product. I can't imagine that 6 double sided black and white pages would have blown up the production value...

    Innovative Ideas.

Themes From a design standpoint I think the themes are a fantastic idea, and will allow for mechanical differentiation between classes without adding to the list of feats, which currently numbers over 2000.

    Red Box: Some Constructive Criticism

Color me disappointed I wasn't pleased at all with the boxed set, and I don't know that I would gift it. When you copy the marketing of a product on the outside of the box, the contents should be pretty similar or some people might not be pleased.

    Disappointment in thinning Dragon content

Runepriest support The runepriest needs support, and it will probably only come from Dragon.

    Third party publishing and Essentials

I am curious if Essentials will fall under the GSL. Is it even viable anymore to put out third party material for D&D? How great would it be if the functionality of Character Builder was improved? It'd be nice if third party supplement info could be loaded to allow access to third party...

Banning Versatile Expertise makes for more lively combats?

I think you make a very good point here and this is probably the best way to see this sort of interaction at the table. The DM has a lot more control over the mood at the table then we realize.

Banning Versatile Expertise makes for more lively combats?

About what I expected I agree that the bonus provided moves away from being a positive reinforcer if it becomes necessary at higher tier to hit. I wanted to throw this idea out and see what people thought, and also what people do in their campaign and how much narration there is.

Banning Versatile Expertise makes for more lively combats?

I've been wondering what would happen if you eliminated the bonus for Versatile Expertise and instead had the PC's describe their actions, and gave them the corresponding bonus for doing that. Thoughts?

    D&D 4E 4e and reality

Yeah, that's a good point, I hadn't really considered it. Hexes solved this problem nicely. :) I take back calling your group stupid. I am actually stupid. :p

How is PvP in 4th Ed?

That's pretty neat, I'd like to see how something like that played out.

    D&D 4E 4e and reality

You are right to be annoyed, that is a really stupid houserule. Each square is a five foot space, there isn't any reason why you shouldn't be able to pass through, it isn't a hard corner or anything. I would have you provoke an attack of opportunity from both creatures though.

How is PvP in 4th Ed?

The system is based around fighting monsters which do less damage than most PC's and have more hitpoints than most PC's. I don't think you can really provide much of a balanced or even a decent narrative of what would happen if two characters faced off with the current system not being really...

    Can a swarm be grabbed?

Try giving out a +1 or +2 bonus depending on how good the description is to any skill checks made during a skill challenge. You'd be surprised what your power gamers can come up with.

    Can a swarm be grabbed?

Good points In order to make anything happen at a table you need buy-in from everyone involved. If your players can't agree that you need to be the ultimate authority on ruling, and you feel you need that authority to deliver the experience you want for your players, then you're at an impasse...

    Cloak of the Walking Wounded

It's pretty funny I had thought about this same thing. I imagine though that some of the way these amulets come together are easier to maneuver, or might even be magical and come apart. However, if that weren't the case, I wonder if a fumble might force a saving throw to see if you...

    Can a swarm be grabbed?

Not at all, it's really more of a wrong system type thing. You can try to make 4E something it isn't, or play a different system that is more aligned with what you are wanting.

    Can a swarm be grabbed?

Monopoly It kind of gets to the point where you have to understand that this is a game, not a really good effort at realism. I can play Monopoly and not be upset that the mortgage rules are unrealistic.

    Cloak of the Walking Wounded

Re: Cheese Wow, some strong reactions today. Anyway, per the rules you could put the amulet on, then the cloak, then take the necklace off to do that, if the DM allowed it. I would allow it in my game (if I had one, currently playing in two right now) for a few reasons: Must have a hand...

    Themes: What's the Catch?

It's a valid question. Maybe magic items will be sold in decks of cards rather than books. When I think about the future of D&D I look at Magic the Gathering. Tournament play, expansions that are more carefully crafted to be compatible yet just enough power creep to make people go out and buy...

    Themes: What's the Catch?

It's a different approach to character differentiation, and one I think they'll be taking more often in the future because it is the right solution to providing campaign flavor to core classes. You can take a melee class they develop in two years, and go back and apply the gladiator template to...
