Im getting OD&D on friday..What can I expect?

As an alternative, one might use the 1e Dungeon Master's Screen instead. The saving throws are on there as well.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

It's fine if it's just one book, but a series of 1000-page books? No thanks.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Yes, if one doesn't mind reading 1000-page books. :D

An Examination of Differences between Editions

I wasn't DMing back in the early 80s (I started playing in 1987 or so and DMing in 1989) . . . however, what I am getting at is that it takes longer now, not that it took longer then. Whether that is good or bad is up to the DM.

To be sure! However, I am not certain that the same thing can be said about NPCs.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

The Fellowship of the Ring? Not saying it was necessarily an inspiration, since I know you are not inordinately fond of Professor Tolkien's work; but the members of the Fellowship have, until their break-up, pretty clear roles as party members.

An Examination of Differences between Editions

And earlier editions allowed the DM to invest as little time in the game as the players did. ;)

OD&D Editions ... which one is the best?

You can actually use the Holmes Basic with Cook & Marsh Expert if you're inclined and you already have it lying around. Original D&D, even the "Original Collectors' Edition" (OCE), tends to be expensive. Whereas Holmes, Molday, Cook, and Mentzer tend not to be. The Rules Cyclopedia can also be...

    [Pied Piper] Bottle City Update

I think I might have to make some changes to the page to make it less confusing, but . . . The current pre-order is for the Standard Edition. It was the "Limited Edition" that had the order deadline of Jan. 31. Sorry for the confusion!

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Not according to his web site. It appears that the cover of Saga of Old City is copyright WOTC: http://www.clydecaldwell.com/large_images/saga_of_old_city.html

    Ridiculous amount of buffs

Yes, especially with Stoneskin, because 2e "buffed" that particular buff spell. :p

    Anybody know a little Latin?

Just figure out the genitive of "Mand" and go from there. If Mand is an alien (i.e., not Latin or Latinized) word, then it should be "Mandiensis." If it's a 3rd declension noun (which I think it would be since it doesn't have an ending that would make it fall into one of the other declensions)...

Also, both the Limited Edition and the Standard Edition of Bottle City should start shipping in about 8 weeks.

Greybeards & Grognards 2 "Who Dies" and My Life In Gaming Editions.

They can hide, sneak, and climb as well as an ordinary human being. Most humans can do these things adequately; thieves are just much, much better at it. An ordinary human being can hide in a closet, therefore a fighter can too, unless he is hampered by something. Etc. No ability checks are...

Wait, so 7/8/9th level spells weren't in OD&D?

The RC is even later than that as it is contemporaneous with 2nd Edition AD&D (it has the gold angled TSR logo on the cover IIRC) -- my guess is 1990 or so.

Help me roleplay a "3" Wisdom

Do Magic Item "Shops" wreck the spirit of D&D?

I fully agree that the GM should offload as much work as possible onto the players. That said, if that requires the players to look in the DMG while at the table, then (IMHO) the game is just too complicated for players or GMs or both. YMMV.
