    money value in 1st/2nd/3rd ed.

If platinum is five times more valuable than gold, then gold is worth 1/6 the worth of platinum. :p

    Old rules about Spellbooks.

Hah, when the choice is between "cast directly from the book" and "die," my stingy M-U character would choose the former every time (it happened once, I don't recall the specifics except that it was a common spell I knew I'd be able to recover later).

    Old rules about Spellbooks.

There are lots of rules regarding spellbooks (including rules for casting directly from the spellbook) in the 1st edition Unearthed Arcana. That's almost certainly where the rules you're referencing are found.

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

If a creature is "dangerous and malign," surely hunting it isn't fun . . . even if the hunters do get some sort of pleasure from the chase.

    Slavic/Russian Gods?

Howdy fellows, Is it possible that THIS is what you're looking for? I remembered seeing it linked from Aardy R. DeVarque's page many years ago . . . the link is dead now but thankfully archived.

LoTR: One Book To Rule Them All?

I think there's a difference between copying elements to weave together a new story and copying a story. For example, while LOTR is clearly influenced by Beowulf, it is not derivative of it.

    LOTR from a gamer's perspective

The eagle would be spied long before it entered Mordor. Can it fly fast enough to get around a line of Nazgul waiting for it? Maybe. Then what happens when Frodo claims the ring while he's flying on the eagle? Does the eagle just drop him into the cone of Mount Doom?

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

FWIW, I've found that creating a character in the Lejendary Adventure game is quite enjoyable because of all the options. It might be worthwhile to have 3e aficionados who like to "build" characters take a look at LA.

    Box Text

One thing about boxed text is that, in many circumstances, the PCs wouldn't notice the room until after they've been attacked -- so why describe it? In the description of the ORC LEADER'S ROOM given above (is that from Keep on the Borderlands?), the PCs aren't going to have a chance to look at...

    Character Conversion to 3.5

An 8th-level Classic D&D Elf is probably equivalent to a 6th/6th multi-classed fighter/magic-user or even 7th/7th! If I were converting him to AD&D I would compromise and make him a 7th-level Fighter/6th-level Magic-user. Then you could use the AD&D->3.5 conversion rules to make a 3.5 character...

    who else loves the C&C...?

I like C&C but prefer AD&D for class-based gaming. That said, one can certainly use C&C modules with AD&D, and I agree with P&P that the Yggsburgh Town modules are a great addition to any Yggsburgh campaign. However, true brilliance is not found in #18 but in #s 4 and 8. ;)

    B7 Rahasia is a compilation of RPGA1 & RPGA2: http://acaeum.com/ddindexes/modpages/b7.html It's amazing how little WOTC has put out since 3e was released. . . . :\

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Yes, the good Professor (thankfully) left many questions about the breeding of orcs unanswered. Certain characters in the books put forth theories, but we never know whether these theories are their own or those of the narrator! It really adds to the sense of mystery (the movies unfortunately...

Barrow of the Forgotten King- NOW WITH PLAYTEST

It sounds like an interesting module (the title is very evocative), but 64 pages for 25 encounter areas seems like an awful lot.

    Licensing of Hobbits and Orcs

And even if "Hobbit" was trademarked, it doesn't necessarily follow that it was trademarked in the context of gaming. There are something like 15 categories of products and services to which trademarks might apply.
