Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

The Pathfinder brand . . . products designed to work with D&D 3E, was in response to Paizo losing the Dragon & Dungeon magazine licenses and realizing their business depending on WotC wasn't sustainable. Transitioning Pathfinder into it's own 3E retro-clone was in response to WotC initially...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

Cool. Not me! Yes, WotC has the resources to easily avoid AI generated art. Hopefully they will continue to do so. But I will not support ANY creator using AI generated art in their projects. If you want to share an RPG with the world (or any other artistic project), do it right. Does that...

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

Probably. But I'd still be curious to visit my alternate-world self to see how well an open 4E did. Would there be a Pathfinder? Would there be an OSR? If there was a 5E, would it look the same as the one we got in our own universe? The WotC of the prime universe (ours, of course) really did...

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

In the current environment, yes. In the long term for their customers, all of them. Every country (or region) could benefit from bringing back manufacturing outsourced to China and other countries across the ocean. The trade war is incredibly short-sighted and stupid overall, the most extreme...

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

In an alternate universe, where WotC made 4E just as open as 3E was . . . Would we still be playing 4E?

Spoilers Star Wars: Andor season 2

Heh, I loved all of that! It's a lot of comic relief . . . but with a tinge of impending disaster that really worked for me. This isn't going to work out well for just about everybody in the show. I'm wondering if we'll see the incompetent rebel cell again in some later battle or other...

Spoilers Star Wars: Andor season 2

But did you notice the Tie fighters chasing Andor in the prototype!?!? They were "inquisitor" ties, or at least, very similar.

It is beautiful . . . and bristling with weaponry!

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

Good, but . . . The tariff situation in the US is volatile and constantly changing. So the impact on any industry and any company is still up in the air. The instability of our "leaders" decisions are part of the problem, in addition to the ridiculously high percentages. Hasbro is certainly a...

D&D 5E (2024) WotC Announces April 22 Release For 2024 System Reference Documents

Well, yeah! But if we removed all of the silly stuff from classic D&D . . . The "Deck of Many Things" may be a silly name, but it's also classic D&D. Absolutely LOVE IT!!!

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

I'm not saying that there aren't, and haven't been, popular, well-selling games! But they don't offer significant competition to D&D. The sales difference between the #2 best-selling game is pretty far distant from D&D sales. The only time this wasn't true was between 4E and 5E, when WotC...

Do Tariffs Apply To RPG Books? Maybe, Maybe Not!

There are definitely downsides to having your products produced in China. Piracy is one of them. And, the US would certainly benefit if we could rebuild our manufacturing base domestically, to give companies a realistic option in producing products here. For those companies who have already...

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

Yes. You can only use what is in the SRD. The rest . . . you have to create yourself!

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

IMO . . . the original SRD, OGL, and d20 license served their purpose admirably . . . with a few hiccups (d20 Bust). It's not that the OGL allowed for real competition for D&D, it's just that the Hasbro execs have never been comfortable with the idea of giving away their game in order to make...

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

Not true. Dancey gave interviews years ago that the purpose of the OGL was two-fold. Yes, to make money for WotC as you described. But also, at the same time, to make sure that D&D would survive WotC and be truly a community game. The money-making part was how it was sold to management, and was...

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

Of course. But WotC's interpretation of these mythological creatures is unique and part of their IP. Regardless of Orcus or Tiamat are in the SRD, can you use or reference those names? Sure. But removing them removes confusion (for some) regarding can you use the D&D versions of those characters.

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

Thanks! Not my point, but good info. Still, Newton's Laws . . . according to others in this thread . . . are still valid in the correct contexts. And either way, they are not "lies" but simply older scientific ideas that have been superseded by new knowledge. The fact that a lot of folks...

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

Aasimar is D&D IP, because it's a made-up word by WotC designers to describe D&D's take on mortals with celestial parentage. Lots of stuff that is considered protected IP was included in previous SRDs that have been removed in the new SRD, as has been discussed upthread. WotC is learning. They...

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

I disagree that "we" won't be deciding this. It reminds me of friends who don't vote in political elections because their votes "don't matter". Yes, your voice matters. "We" get to decide how much Gen AI takes over the art world, by being informed and voting with our dollars. If most folks are...
