D&D 5E (2014) Bounded Accuracy. Where can I find it referenced?

Giving magic items is the de facto standard. A DM has to choose to REMOVE magic items from the game. Players who don't want magic items in OFFICIAL play with Adventurer's League, have to hand off or destroy the magic items they receive. Trying to lay the blame on the DM for not going counter...

D&D 5E (2014) Bounded Accuracy. Where can I find it referenced?

Large groups of monsters have always been relevant, at least until that fireball wipes them all out, nothing has changed there. Much higher CR monsters in 5E are generally less forgiving than in earlier editions. Anyway, 5E doesn't have bounded accuracy. Although they took out a bunch of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Changeling (from the UA article): crazy broken?

You know those 6-8 fights/day your characters are supposed to be having, which soak up huge amounts of play time, many of which are rated as "easy"? How many of them are memorable stories? You're evangelizing this one point far too hard. It doesn't support a person choosing to not use a...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Using Variant Encumbrance?

Isn't it weird to call your god a DM? It sort of implies that you're stuck in a dungeon.

D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Using Variant Encumbrance?

Game of Thrones' "The Mountain" has a 47 STR according to D&D lifting rules! http://grapevine.is/news/2015/02/02/hafthor-julius-breaks-1000-year-old-lifting-record/ That gives him a +18 damage on his punch. Better not make him angry.

D&D 5E (2014) Here's something that (to my knowledge) hasn't been brought up. About homebrew and classes.

WotC just gave us an example with the Artificer which many think isn't a very good interpretation of the class. It would have been much better as it's own class, but WotC made the decision to just use a subclass anyway. So it seems they would suggest only using a subclass even if it ends up...

[UPDATED!] The Unsung (Female) Half of the D&D Team!

In other words, men can't do what women can do. What would actually be nice is if people would stop believing that gender mattered and so not make posts like yours.

D&D 5E (2014) Where are the Dials and Levers?

I was thinking more sad and pathetic in comparison to previous editions. And no, they're not "dials or levers", if you were to take just the options in the 3E MM and break them down into how they can be used to change individual monsters like you have here you'd have a list millions of times...

[UPDATED!] The Unsung (Female) Half of the D&D Team!

Looks like the directors are women. So you should be saying that it's great WotC's women are hiring men and pushing diversity.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana is Here - and it's all about EBERRON!

None of those rules will play anything like 3E Eberron and only some bear a passing resemblance to 4E's watered down version. The artificer just makes me sad.

And then there were 8! On Chris Sims and Jennifer Clarke Wilkes' Layoffs...

You're comparing a $20,000 purchase to a $20. Few people research board games even with convenient things like BGG around, almost no one researches RPGs, it almost always comes down to someone saying "hey, I'm going to run a game of..."

    D&D 5E (2014) Realistic health rate

Quite a bit changes because of spell durations and such. You can't expect to keep hex, magic weapon or even animate undead up for multiple fights for instance. If you are using spells to rest or create food or travel they're getting used up 7x as fast etc. Like most of the variant rules in...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Using Variant Encumbrance?

The average soldier would have a 10 STR. 10 STR can lift 300 pounds which is probably more than many soldiers can. With the x5/x10 rule a 100 load would slow them down to the point they could barely walk (-20 movement). They couldn't even then pick something up that weighs over 50 pounds as...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Using Variant Encumbrance?

And having a good ranged option, which every adventurer should, especially DEX based, could cost another 22 pounds for a heavy crossbow, or 6 or 7 for a bow or hand crossbow. Then there are tools so your armor doesn't rust and you can fix your shield, cloths (4 pounds), belt pouch (1 pound...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Anyone Using Variant Encumbrance?

There are a lot of problems with the encumbrance rules and equipment weights, they need to be either fixed or not used. Several items are far heavier than they should be and for worn equipment the weight should have less of an impact than if it was carried. Also the numbers are just bad...

How's D&D Working Out For You? First official feedback survey looks at CLASSES and FEATS!

There are table differences that would impact this (second wind can be hugely powerful or worthless), and it doesn't reference if you're using feats or magic items or not, both of which will alter the answer. Also if you're using the flanking optional rule (which is very common) which has a...

How's D&D Working Out For You? First official feedback survey looks at CLASSES and FEATS!

On the other hand if your group decided to play with Rules Cyclopedia and Pathfinder instead, maybe they should hear that too. Many people are saying 5E is inspiring them, it did us as well, to go as far as putting up with THAC0 to avoid it.
