D&D 5E (2014) Analysis of "Typical" Magic Item Distribution

The number of rolls on the table are a very bad estimate and I'd ignore it. They don't come close to matching how many monsters you will be killing, and thus hordes you will come across, based on the XP requirements to level. For instance it's quite likely you'll be killing over 60 legendary...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlocks seem pointless

    Tiamat totally ignores it! :)

D&D 5E (2014) How do you adjudicate firing through combatants?

It takes 50% cover which will almost never come up with just a single creature. Try it, get a couple friends to stand in combat poses within 10 feet of each other then see how much of the 5 by 5 foot square you're standing in actually has 50% blockage. And don't forget you can shoot during...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

If I had a character with no ranged ability I wouldn't take them against a flyer unless they have a 6 INT. That is called role-playing. You have to be stupid to bring a knife to a gun fight. I'd say he's built for getting his butt kicked by everyone on the practice field that are also...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

I agree it is easy to understand, which makes it confusing as to why you can't seem to understand. Nowhere in the description does it say it can penetrate through things to perceive things past them. You keep insisting on adding things to this that are not there. It gives a very concrete...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

We don't consider doing one attack to be doing anything. This is particularly true for a battlemaster who should be giving the rogue extra sneak attacks or something similar. Your fighter ISN'T built for offense which should be obvious from the fact that he didn't do anything offensively...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

Nothing about that says they see hidden objects. The question is how do you justify not allowing stealth? It gives examples of echo location as being blindsight, echo location is the same as sight except with sound waves instead of light, there is no reason why you can't hide from it if you...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

It was generally a wizard or druid using AE spells or later sometimes DOTs. Ranger bow kiting wasn't as good or as common. A good example in 5E would be a druid on a horse or with a movement buff with Call Lightning active and running away (in a big circle around the cloud) from monsters and...

Also it appears blindsight doesn't do anything against stealth. The rogue class ability blindsense does.

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

So it came down to your party having 3 useless characters in it because none of them bothered to have a ranged attack. The dragon's speed isn't going to be enough to keep it out of range unless it's not attacking. Dragons for level 8 aren't legendary. I assume it was vertically challenging...

    D&D 5E (2014) Good Smoke Rules?

Spells aren't realistic effects, you've gone off the path of your own argument there. This sort of thinking began and, thankfully, ended with 4E and every other game in existence isn't broken for it's lack of "level appropriate doors and smoke", they're MUCH better for it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Good Smoke Rules?

The 3.5E rules are okay, but I tried to avoid the +1 per round thing, which, while it seems like a good way to model the situation, isn't very 5Eish. Savage Worlds gives you a +2 on your vigor check if you have a water soaked mask or some other device which is equivalent to an advantage in 5E.

    D&D 5E (2014) Good Smoke Rules?

Can't really use saves which benefit from proficiency which why I went with ability check. A character can too easily turn a DC 10 save into "anything but a 1" and since you've hit the bound you get the problem of potentially failing in 1 round or having a high chance of being many many rounds...

    D&D 5E (2014) Good Smoke Rules?

I don't have a good grasp on the lethality of smoke, but I know it's a lot more of a problem than the current rules make it out to be. Things like eversmoking bottle impose nothing but obscurement for instance. I've pulled out Flash Point before but it isn't ideal for a lot of situations. I...

D&D 5E (2014) Clerics of Life: Broken, Bad Design, or Working as Intended?

Okay, lets do that... "Hey Joe... these guys have murder-killed their way through all our friends in the rooms leading up to here and they don't even look tired." "Yeah... and Natasha was on guard duty today and she could kick all our butts and I don't even think she slowed them down." "It's...

D&D 5E (2014) Multiclass Martial Classes and Extra Attack

Scorching Ray is one of the best spells in the game and is often used in higher level slots. Feats, ability increases and attack bonus all got taken out of character progression and put into class progression to make it look like there aren't "dead" levels. Lots of people have suggested...

D&D 5E (2014) Clerics of Life: Broken, Bad Design, or Working as Intended?

You obviously only have 1 paladin in the party or you'd be complaining about everyone have +10, +15, +20 or whatever to all saves. :)

D&D 5E (2014) On the healing options in the 5e DMG

At 1hp/day it would take 5 days to recover in earlier editions. 1 Day in 3E 1hp/level/day. 5 minutes in 4E, 1-8 hours in 5E. Being down 5 HP is an imposed combat penalty. It is just bizarre people keep insisting that being wounded magically slows you down or makes it harder to hit someone...

D&D 5E (2014) On the healing options in the 5e DMG

You'll have to quote it because the verbiage is pretty clearly making contact with hits. Even if there is 1 line you can take out of context to read incorrectly to say a miss does damage, there are 50 you can't take any other way than being contact and meat. The very idea of being winded in 10...

D&D 5E (2014) Clerics of Life: Broken, Bad Design, or Working as Intended?

You've missed a lot. Some of the best are getting bitten by a lycanthrope and having damage immunity. 2 or 3 barb levels for 50% damage mitigation. Abjuration wizard for damage absorption.
