D&D 5E (2014) Clerics of Life: Broken, Bad Design, or Working as Intended?

I don't have a problem with people bouncing back up when a PC channels the powers of a god to cause it to happen. When people can whip out a healing kit in the middle of combat and do the same thing in a few seconds I'm a little less happy.

D&D 5E (2014) Primeval Awareness and other hidden gems

Primal Awareness is pretty bad... and the fact that it is usually WORSE in your favored terrain is funny. It should let you know direction or something instead of giving you a radius so large as to be useless.

    D&D 5E (2014) Extra Attack + Thirsting Blade ?

But raging barbarians can attack as a bonus action, so you can end up with 3 attacks anyway.

    D&D 5E (2014) CR to Level calculation ?

Ogres move faster than 1st level PCs. An ogre can eat 5 first level PCs if done right.

D&D 5E (2014) Legendary monsters are not solo monsters

It is wildly inaccurate. It only "works" if I'm lobbing very easily winnable fights at the party where the large amount of error still isn't enough to push it over the point where the fight could be too hard. If you try to use it to make a fight that is challenging, which is sort of the point...

D&D 5E (2014) Behind the design of 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons: Well my impression as least.

In which your characters are expected to have 6-8 combat encounters per game day. That isn't actually a role playing game, it's a combat simulator. The characters see more eviscerated corpses and gore in a day than is in a season of CSI.

D&D 5E (2014) Legendary monsters are not solo monsters

No, it isn't. They didn't stop at CR 20 in the MM for a reason. High level monsters are generally quite weak for their CR. Low level monsters on the other hand are often overpowered for their CR. It has no meaning for any group. Monsters of the same CR are often WILDLY different threats...

D&D 5E (2014) Legendary monsters are not solo monsters

As history will probably be repeating itself, by then we'll have MM3 where they've finally gotten the math in the ballpark and the legendary mechanics have been replaced, along with lycanthropic damage immunity.

D&D 5E (2014) Legendary monsters are not solo monsters

And that is exactly the problem. If you're filling in the encounter with other monsters, your XP multiplier kicks in and suddenly that legendary HAS to be several levels BELOW the party... which makes it easily shredded and anything BUT legendary... at least to the melee. The wizard still...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why should I allow Multiclassing ?

Having the next 19 levels chosen for you once you pick the first isn't exactly exciting for a lot of people. Getting locked on to that railroad removes a lot of sense of character growth. Having to make a decision you need to stick with months later in the campaign also isn't great. MC is...

D&D 5E (2014) On the healing options in the 5e DMG

If a level 1 party wants to attack a CR 20 dragon, let them. If a party without a healer wants to assault a 6-8 fight per day dungeon, let them. Eventually they'll get tired of making new characters and hire NPC healers and stop attacking dragons.

D&D 5E (2014) DMG help with converting Pathfinder adventures to 5e?

I've suggested an easier way to going about playing the modules he wants to play in the way he wants to play them. Yes, it is what he is asking about. You, on the other hand, are not helping.

D&D 5E (2014) Damage on a Miss: Because otherwise Armour Class makes no sense

They are just as inconsistent with HP as 4E was. As you say, there are some things that make HP be meat to be impossible, but simultaneously there are things that make it impossible to not be meat. They've simplified to absurdity in many places and HP are one of them. You keep your DEX to AC...

D&D 5E (2014) What Are Your Favorite Parts of the New DMG?

Highest damage single hits tend to be from rogues. So cleave will allow a ROGUE to really wade through enemies by subtly hitting an enemy with a finesse weapon. Best thing about the DMG is that it is out.

D&D 5E (2014) DMG help with converting Pathfinder adventures to 5e?

Pathfinder is a very module game built on a very strong game system that can be easily modified. You will find it easier and less work to just houserule the PF mechanics to match the things you want from 5E than it would be to take adventures and redo them.

D&D 5E (2014) On the healing options in the 5e DMG

If your short rest becomes 5 minutes then your narrative has to change to monsters constantly hurling themselves at the party in order to keep your "number of encounters the same between". 5 minute short rests turn second wind into something as close to regeneration as it makes no difference.

D&D 5E (2014) Damage on a Miss: Because otherwise Armour Class makes no sense

High impact weapons will be larger and armor is EVEN BETTER against them. You're trying to argue the very thing that makes armor better is worse. The things that armor isn't good against are handled with DEX saves. A giant's boulder is one boulder, not a volley of them. An attack is...

D&D 5E (2014) On the healing options in the 5e DMG

Wow, that seems incredibly naive with no consideration at all for the large effect that will have in the (supposedly) balanced classes. At best it seems like an idea for a rule with lots and lots of time and effort left for the DM to actually make it work. Yikes. I guess that is right up...
