D&D 5E (2014) What Campaign Setting(s) Do You Want To See in 5E?

Dragaera, it's overdue. Failing that poking dragons with lances could be fun.

D&D 5E (2014) Can my table focus on making things fun instead of optimizing?

If optimizing is the most fun part of the game, maybe play a different game. There are many story driven systems out there that don't focus so much on books of monsters to kill for XP and the best positioning, ways of increasing weapon damage and spell tacticals to get that XP.

D&D 5E (2014) Staff of Defense and the Shield spell

It can be useful for some characters to cast as an action and leave their reaction open to do other things with. If anything the error is that the shield spell can't be cast as an action.

D&D 5E (2014) Death Domain and Oathbreaker preview

Immunity to fear is pretty common by mid level for PCs, it's not really just a paladin thing. The Oathbreaker's fear is more useful against monsters and NPCs than a party.

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

Based on published adventures and encounters, which is what most people experience, magic items are quite common. If that +1 sword will sell for enough to get 500 mercenaries? Yes.

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

If a group of people with enough wealth to buy several kingdoms comes to town with a need for magic items, there will be people lining up to fill that need. In the case of that much wealth it will be rulers with entire armies who will annihilate every ruin, dungeon and cave in a 500 mile radius...

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

A problem which would have easily been solved with a decent crafting system. Of all the things they take from MMOs and shatter any RPG verisimilitude with, why don't they take a decent crafting system because that solves a lot of problems and doesn't break verisimilitude. Want to have magic...

D&D 5E (2014) Rise of Tiamat Supplement is online

Unless there are similar items for other stats, something like this should be done, otherwise it's an even better choice to go DEX main and just get your STR to 13 for MC purposes.

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

Magic items are generally available for purchase. If they weren't common as dirt they wouldn't be all over the place in the hands of practically every group of 4 or more creatures.

D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn reproduction - eggs or live young?

Clearly there is much confusion here. Easiest just to ban the race and move on.

D&D 5E (2014) How would you do Yellow Mold in 5e?

Yikes is when your players start bottling the stuff and taking improved throwing feats.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Glimpse Of High-Level Play

It is especially effective in 5E where bringing even a 1st level along to bless the party works extremely well. Someone needs to carry a torch and haul the loot, may as well be an apprentice cleric.

    D&D 5E (2014) A Glimpse Of High-Level Play

The OP. Step 1: Recruit "several" NPCs from their army to come along. I think the obvious conclusion needs to be pointed out here: Step 2: ??? Step 3: Profit!

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Basic DM rules updated

This is largely the system's fault for not dealing with dice rolls better. Part of it is unavoidable, the shorter you make combat the more swingy it will tend to get. Part of it is bad design choices like not having any subtraction in the game so there are no penalties on successive attacks...

    D&D 5E (2014) A Glimpse Of High-Level Play

So you have 6 PCs AND they recruited NPCs to help? How many NPCs? I see you've mentioned Olaf "Destroyer of Otherwise Good Movies" the Dwarf, and an elf.

D&D 5E (2014) Encounter difficulty: how to fix it.

Better but still a few problems. You need a "don't be a jerk" rule because 12 flying snakes (easy to medium) are going to annihilate a 2nd level party. Since this lets you have multiple monsters more easily it lets a DM, intentionally or accidentally, mass a large number of under CRed...

D&D 5E (2014) [Rules Question] Opportunity Attacks and Total Cover

You're right on both counts, however changing the rules to match previous editions where there would be an OA in this case is adding complexity they intentionally removed. It may not have just been simplicity either. The intent may have been to allow someone to step behind a wall or barrier...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Basic DM rules updated

Nothing was changed as far as I see, they just added the last two sections about how to make combat more fun and how to adjust difficulty based on special circumstances.

    D&D 5E (2014) There's something surprising I miss about 4th edition and it's not what you think.

My digest sized books are called PDFs. They weigh nothing, take no space and are searchable. WotC needs to get on that, this isn't the 1970s. What I really miss about 4E is a 1st through 3rd level that is balanced rather than having to randomly make new characters due to spontaneous...

D&D 5E (2014) Are Challenge Ratings of dragons accurate in 5ED&D?

No option for all over the place. The low level ones are generally overpowered, the mid to high level ones are something of a mixed bag and the high level ones are underpowered.
