D&D 5E (2014) Guess Who Wants to Pay Top Platinum for Your Magic Items! (Tyranny of Dragons question)

You're confusing buying with selling. PCs have no problem selling in the rules. Because there are time requirements to sell, the PCs should hire agents to find buyers for them. Most big cities will have such things already as they will have auction houses that handle things more expensive...

D&D 5E (2014) Guess Who Wants to Pay Top Platinum for Your Magic Items! (Tyranny of Dragons question)

PCs love selling the same thing twice. Filthy filthy lucre. Quite the contrary, the rules are it's an investigation check and there is a table of sell prices. DMG 129 Again it's the reverse, having kobolds have magic items as per the loot distribution rules in the DMG...

D&D 5E (2014) How far can you nerf spellcasting and still consider it DnD5?

Low magic still feels like D&D, Conan is a good example. The reverse isn't true, 4E didn't feel like D&D because all the classes that were supposedly non-magical could push/pull/slide/AE just like casters and had "I can only swing my sword this way once per day" powers that felt magical, used...

    D&D 5E (2014) do CRs seem a bit arbitrary?

Yes, as you've pointed out, while equal CR should mean equal power level, it doesn't, there is a LOT of variance and you can easily have something 2 CR higher being weaker. They didn't do a terribly good job of it and it's not because it's impossible, there are a lot of vary obvious standouts...

ELEMENTAL EVIL Player's Companion - FREE!

Some people would rather get something good they pay for than have the company spend it's time making garbage for free instead. It seems that this is really just a way to get people to buy the elemental evil path, which is fine, but it also does seem like the sort of power creep we were getting...

D&D 5E (2014) Can a Battlemaster pickup a disarmed weapon as part of his action?

Probably has a lot to do with people in the playtest taking Asmodeus's absurd rod away from him and clubbing him to death like a baby seal with it. Seems like fixing a paper cut with an amputation.

D&D 5E (2014) Dex to AC when unconscious?

Very much this, it is absurd, but at least very easy to fix. Less so are things like rogues running faster after initiative is rolled or the mess that the advantage mechanic is.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

YOU say maximum, DMG says typical. If you're throwing less than 6-8 then you need to be throwing harder fights at the PCs to have the same level of difficulty which means the monsters will have more treasure so it will generally work itself out. A DM shouldn't be throwing such low level...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

LOL! Having an internet connection or buying and using another book is really what you're going to go with? Just how much do you have to love something to make those sorts of excuses for glaring flaws?

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

I thought having an easy to see chart with monsters listed by CR would be handy for a GM too. But what do we know?

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

This is 5E, you're supposed to have 6-8 fights per day and they can have multiple dragons in each fight! You'll accumulate more treasure than Smaug ever had in a week hacking and slashing.

D&D 5E (2014) Can a Battlemaster pickup a disarmed weapon as part of his action?

You can disarm with your bare hands or a dagger etc. which would mean that when it is dropped it is still only an arm's length away at most, so the dropped weapon should be in the immediate area as long as a reach with a reach weapon wasn't used.

D&D 5E (2014) Can a Battlemaster pickup a disarmed weapon as part of his action?

You can't flavor them 4E cheerlords, they don't heal. The twice-per encounter once-per-encounter power and the various other healing powers available to warlords aren't there for the 5E fighter. With the limited superiority dice you can't make a lazylord either. They play like fighters that...

D&D 5E (2014) how can i add oomph to my warlock

The party is level 14 or 15 when they reach the well. Despite being a CR 30 deity she is pretty easily weakened by things that I can only think of as feng shui and reduced to being only a CR 18. This includes stripping her spell immunity. I'd skip the weakening and just gate her in while...

D&D 5E (2014) how can i add oomph to my warlock

Rather than sorc take paladin levels. Your CHR will be giving everyone in the party +5 to their saves, give immunity to charm, extra attack and a ridiculous bounded accuracy busting +5 bonus to hit from Oath making your great weapon master damage something Tiamat will cry about.

D&D 5E (2014) how can i add oomph to my warlock

When you get to Tiamat you should have saved up a pile of gold. Use the gold to buy a large army to beat the heck out of her. Who knew the most potent 5E epic ability was going to be managerial skills?

D&D 5E (2014) Can someone please explain to me why there are still no PDFs for 5e core books?

WotC has MtG on most platforms http://magic.wizards.com/en/new-to-magic/try-the-game They totally "get" taking your real money for their virtual product.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of gold?

Magic items. A party of level 5, just out of apprentice tier doing the typical 7 fights/day, will be making more than 1k/day in gold. By level 11 you'll be making enough gold a day to destroy the economy of large towns. So, buy magic items, or be the villain and destroy economies. Your choice.

    D&D 5E (2014) Multi-single-classing

Subclasses are just feat chains baked into the class. Bad design and overworked, but if you want a not great but workable houserule then: When your character gains a level in a class that grants a feat (ability score improvement), you can instead use that level as a subclass level. The...

D&D 5E (2014) Reasons Why My Interest in 5e is Waning

Why bother even using 5E then if you're going to use a previous edition's adventures? Even if you didn't have to redo all the encounters from scratch and redo all the treasure, redo all the traps, redo all the DCs, basically remake absolutely everything in the adventure besides the maps...
