    D&D 5E (2014) So, 5e OGL

:-S This is way too evocative of an elderly person talking about their stool consistency. LOL

    D&D 5E (2014) Speculate on Pax

There is the possibility that they might introduce an additional virtual tabletop platform partner. Mearls' recent interview indicated that their current deal is not exclusive.

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Mearls' Comments on Fighter Subclasses Lacking Identity

The name change was a must once they made the internal decision to abandon having a drill sergeant yell at your open wounds to heal them up. (I kid! I played a 4e Warlord and enjoyed it immensely.)

    RPG Design & Arduous Research

Kudos to you for all this vehicle research. I put of fraction of the effort your expending into various gun stats for a homebrew system. The NSA probably has me on a list now, LOL.

D&D 5E (2014) About Rolling for Ability Scores

Oh, if I was on the player side of the table and given this option, I would choose the sure thing (array/point buy) every time. But as a DM, if you eliminate the "fake gambling" and have a player who understands the risk and wants to take it, I think the positive (of giving them that...

    D&D 5E (2014) So, 5e OGL

I feel like we've gone so far down the rabbit hole and the possibilities have become more and more nebulous. It could be anything at this point.

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Mearls' Comments on Fighter Subclasses Lacking Identity

When a player does this, I would end up giving them a named weapon that "evolves" alongside the character. A spiffy mythical falchion that levels alongside you seems more palatable than a slightly better falchion around every corner.

D&D 5E (2014) About Rolling for Ability Scores

I think your original way of doing things was best. If some of your players appreciate the choice, why not let them roll? If you are worried about cheaters, enforce that they roll in your presence. In my campaign the default is standard array/point buy variant in the PHB. If a player wants to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Help me escape from a grapple!

I would not have future STR saves against Tentacle Slam automatically fail. STR saves outside of this ability would auto-fail, but I'm guessing RAI was for the STR check to occur every turn. I would let the helping adventurer make an attack against the tentacle. (See the Giant Spider ability...

New D&D Movie To Go Ahead - Produced By Lego Movie's Roy Lee

I agree. This sounds hideous! Kids cartoons from the 80s are great, but this needs the modern sensibilities and self-respect of film series like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Mearls' Comments on Fighter Subclasses Lacking Identity

Eldritch Knight is absolutely its own flavor niche. With Champion and Battlemaster, they consciously chose meta playstyle over flavor. I'll absolutely concede that they married complexity to subclass with those options, but I think that they executed the decision to do so pretty well.

New D&D Movie To Go Ahead - Produced By Lego Movie's Roy Lee

Let's hope. The most iconic locations are there. ;) Setting a FR movie elsewhere would be like making a Lord of the Rings movie set wherever the guys on the giant elephants showed up from. Being JRRT, I'm sure the elephant guys have a massive tome of lore about them. But it doesn't make them...

New D&D Movie To Go Ahead - Produced By Lego Movie's Roy Lee

This is glad news. With the movie rights at home again, we can see the proper settings brought to life, and (hopefully) a proper respect for the properties and lore. While not on the scale of Harry Potter fandom, D&D fandom cares about the source material, and if WB treats D&D with the respect...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Mearls' Comments on Fighter Subclasses Lacking Identity

D'oh. Did I miss this topic in the interview discussion thread or are you referring to an older thread? You've got some great points about how complexity choices could have been more integrated rather than all or nothing. I think the Champion was the result of my above-mentioned players whose...

Mike Mearls on stuff... (Tome Show interview from GenCon)

Great interview. WotC seems to know what they are doing, and its good to know they have some autonomy within Hasbro. More frequent communication like this would be great. My thoughts: *Mearls tackles some of the hand-wringing of fans (guilty as charged) in a way that was very reassuring. The...

D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on Mearls' Comments on Fighter Subclasses Lacking Identity

I thought they did a pretty good job with the subclass names and identities. The concepts are pretty simple. Champions are focused on self improvement and raw ability (recalling the simple mechanics of the earliest editions). The name is fairly generic, but if the goal is to rename...

D&D 5E (2014) A case where the 'can try everything' dogma could be a problem

I agree. We are pretty casual and don't worry about this at our table either. An in-character "I think back on my XYZ studies and inquire if there is a library nearby" or an OOC "I make a XYZ check" are one and the same, especially if its a fairly routine check. If there's something special...

D&D 5E (2014) Sword Coast book - not really a campaign setting? And some speculations about the future

I don't see it this way. I think this is a middle of the road offering in terms of DM vs player. Maybe like a hefty gazetteer or perhaps 3.5's "Eberron Explorer's Handbook". Yeah, jumping the gun possibly. I don't think a full setting is necessarily on the way. The Sword Coast is easily...

D&D 5E (2014) Difficulty Playing D&D: Player Still Waiting Off Screen After 3+ Hours

This is a tricky one. There's so much that could have been done better. Impressions: -The DM didn't shut your "ride for reinforcements" plan down, so that's good. You thought outside the box and the DM rolled with it. Some of the other posters are giving you are hard time for splitting off, but...
