    AD&D 2E Intelligent Magic Swords? (2e AD&D)

Chose to ignore probably. Intelligent items come with their own little story and that's extra work. So they just made it a +X Sword of Whatever and got on with it. I have always tried to put powerful intelligent swords in the hands of the Fighters and Paladins because IMO that's how it's...

    D&D 5E (2024) [HOMEBREW] Ranger Ideas +

Speaking of which, roll the Ranger back to PF1e when Favored Enemy was interesting, BUT, make the combat bonus apply only to bows. The Ranger should be IMO a master archer. Better than the other classes could ever be. You could make that kind of Ranger with PF1e and whew it was fun to play.

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing ranger with higher level mark spells.

Agreed. Even TSR had no clue what to do with the Ranger. IMO making the class an elite hunter with unrivaled archery skill is the best look. Favored Enemy should provide the usual bonuses except the combat bonus should just be for bows (attack and damage). That keeps Rangers in their own little...

    D&D 5E (2024) [HOMEBREW] Ranger Ideas +

The reason HM is "Concentration, up to one hour" is Rangers can use it to track fleeing targets (Advantage with Perception and Survival to find the target). By removing concentration and dropping it to 1 minute, the spell just becomes another boring DPR bump.

Are there any submarine based RPGs?

GURPS Vehicles has rules for submarines including rules for underwater maneuvers.

    When disagreeing…

How 'bout, "You seem smart but your ideas are awful"? Seems low-impact enough. I disagree with people who jump-start threads from ten years ago.

What Does the RPG Hobby Need Now?

VTT IS face-to-face gaming, with the computer as a tool. But I get that some people can't figure it out (y)

D&D General How would you feel if Official Adventures only covered 3 levels?

Gaining levels too fast can trivialize the game IMO and it's one of my issues with 5e. The superhero aspect of modern D&D is very unsatisfying, which is why I prefer BECMI. A "Levels 1-3" 5e adventure would be super short and boring compared to the old classics like Keep on the Borderlands and...

Pathfinder 1E Are people still playing Pathfinder 1e?

Agreed. There's so many players and GMs online that it isn't difficult to find a good group to game with. And "Min-Maxing" is part of a recognized playstyle in the ttrpg hobby. I get that some people don't enjoy gaming with those types of players, but the characters they "build" can be very...

What makes a TTRPG purchase "worth it" to you?

Agreed. I've learned to be patient and wait for "bundles" - it pays off in the end. A few months ago I grabbed 5-6 ttrpgs I wanted in a bundle that was under $30 total. I will never forget the regret I experienced buying the 5e core books when they released.

The sticky point is "existing copyright law". That's where the current fight is and the creatives are winning 🤓

What makes a TTRPG purchase "worth it" to you?

Unless it's a phenomenal super-game, anything over $20 isn't worth it. The lack of creativity and edition changes makes investing anything more than that a waste of money.

Worlds of Design: What Should Be in an RPG Book?

I prefer dictionaries for definitions: Oxford - a form of play or sport, especially a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck. Merriam-Webster - a physical or mental competition conducted according to rules with the participants in direct opposition...

    D&D 5E (2024) Seeking Monster Creation Advice

I'm just a little curious: Do you actually run D&D or just make statblocks? If you run D&D, do you use the provided CR guidelines for combat encounters? If so, how many rounds do your combat sessions typically run? Using the current CR guidelines, have you ever had a TPK?
