    D&D 4E New "Confessions of a Full Time Wizard" - 4e tidbits!

Yes, because, dice rolling will most likely be optional. Optional rules don't have to be allowed by a DM, and quite often are not allowed, at least in the games I have seen over the years. the DMs I have played with in the recent past have been extremely frugal on allowing optional rules. Not...

    D&D 4E New "Confessions of a Full Time Wizard" - 4e tidbits!

Gotta say, this column has solidified my decision on D&D 4e. I am sure other people love it, but for me, D&D and point buy character creation systems are mutually exclusive. When I create D&D characters I expect to be rolling dice for attributes. If I want to play a point buy fantasy game, I...

Running games with unintended systems. . .

Back in the 1980s and 1990s I ran a Doctow Who game using the original Traveller rules. That was a lot of fun. I've run Keep on the Borderlands using AD&D, DragonQuest, and GURPS rules at different times. All have worked out quite fun, actually.

    Recalled RPG products?

There was a GURPS solo adventure called, err (digging deep into my memory here) Up Hausberk! (I think). It was sort of like a Choose Your Own Adventure game, but the page references were so screwed up that it was unplayable.

    D&D 4E Not going to 4e

Wow, where do you find all those things? Must be in some of the 3.5 books from the last year. I have not seen the things you mention, so I am not sure of the entire point you are trying to make.

    2-D maps or 3-D terrain?

Any time you want to get rid of those obsolete plastic bits, let me know. I am an obsolete gamer. Well, maybe not obsolete, but not rich enough to afford all that electronics stuff!

    Are Gognards killing D&D?

As a grognard and an official curmudgeon, I don't think either term is appropriate for what you are describing. Neither is Luddite, as they are not any technology. Edition Hugger might work.

    D&D 4E D&D 4e = Traveller: The New Era?

Actually, as someone who has played Traveller from its very early years (starting in 1979), I can tell you that the Third Imperium game setting was not part of the original set. As a matter of fact, there's no default setting in the basic Little Black Book boxed set. It wasn't until later...

    Are Gognards killing D&D?

Wow, if you were betting on me and my gaming group, of which I am the only one who posts here, you would be losing that bet. Out of the 8 players and the DM (that's me) not a single one has any desire to switch, and 5 of them specifically said they don't want to even think about switching game...

    Are Gognards killing D&D?

OK, I first have to admit that I only read through page 2 of this thread, but felt I should comment on a few things. Hope I am not retreading too much here. I am someone who started playing D&D in 1979. I played a lot of AD&D. When 2nd Ed came around I bought the PH, DMG, MM, and got most of...

    D&D 4E Not going to 4e

Currently, the only 4e I plan on going to is GURPS. What I have seen for D&D 4e has not impressed me. It has annoyed me, confused me, but it has not thrilled me. If I plan on playing D&D in the future, I will stick with 3.0 (with modifications).

Pathfinder 1E Paizo's RPG SuperSTAR Contest Top 32

Interesting. I know that Steve Jackson Games and Battlefield Press use the AP Stylebook. Until now I have not met companies that used the Chicago Manual of Style. I imagine this is mainly because I have worked in just a couple of fields, and that is the default for those fields.

Pathfinder 1E Paizo's RPG SuperSTAR Contest Top 32

I have done work for two different game companies and one environmental engineering company within the last few years. All of them used the AP Stylebook. That's why, for me at least, it is the book I pay closest attention to when it comes to edition number. None of the game companies I...

Honestly, how often have you used gnomes?

Let's see, where to begin. In my current campaign (homebrew world) the gaming group is based in the city of Napradic, a gnomish city that is part of a technocratic confederation of city states on an island off of the main continent. Think Madagascar in size. The gnomes are actively involved...

    Weapons with an Arabian/Calimshan flavour

The talwar (later evolving linguistically to tulwar) is of Indian origin, as are the katar and ankus. The kukri is Nepalese. I am actually not sure what the tufenk is, I will have to go hunt that down somewhere. The jambiya, as I said before, would be a good weapon, as would the cutlass, and...

    Weapons with an Arabian/Calimshan flavour

Well, a Jambiya is a curved, double edged, heavy dagger used quite extensively in the Arabian regions of the world for many hundreds of years. Ancient Egyptians used a kopesh, which would be a cool and exotic weapon, if a bit old fashioned. If I was at home I could come up with some other...

Pathfinder 1E Paizo's RPG SuperSTAR Contest Top 32

You are not the only one. I just emailed a player in my game about one of them, I think it works perfectly for her Bard who is working towards being a Shadowdancer.

D&D 4E What would make you decide against 4e?

Right now a lot of things are making me decide not to get 4e, not the least of which are the following: Removal of some favorite races from the initial PH. The fact that there will be more than one PH. The gutting of the core classes, removing many my groups favorite classes. The inclusion of...

Was there only one DM at your table?

Back in the day I think about half of my gaming group of the time did DMing at some point. There was a group of 4 that did a lot of DMing, another 3 or so that did a little bit, and the rest of the group (which at one time was 15 strong) felt that DMing was not their thing.

D&D 4E 3 months in and 7 to go - will YOU switch to 4e?

For now, we are going to stay with our 3.0 (modified) game. When this campaign ends we will be switching to GURPS I think. I am kind of tired of D&D, looking forward to the 30s era noir/steampunk superhero campaign we'll be doing then.
