    Let's write some riddles!

Merkuri, those last three you gave are what my group of enigmatologists usually call logic puzzles. The person asking the puzzle is expecting the recipient to ask additional questions to come to a logical conclusion. For us, riddles are where a person gives an enigmatic or obscuring...

    Let's write some riddles!

I usually tell it as: A box without hinges, key or lid; yet inside golden treasure is hid. As a hint I can tell you this thing goes up white, but comes down yellow.

    Let's write some riddles!

I have used one similar to this. The way mine goes is: The man who made it sold it. The man who bought it doesn't need it. The man who used it did not know it. What is it? For a clue we will say the riddle again and add the line: But his six friends did.

    Let's write some riddles!

What does Man love more then life? Hate more then death or mortal strife? That which the contented man desires, The poor have, the rich require, The miser spends, and the spendthrift saves, And all men carry to their graves. It is greater then the gods, Worse then the Devil, Dead people eat it...

    Let's write some riddles!

As someone who performs as an enigmatologist and who writes quite a few riddles, I must say that I enjoy using them in games. Unfortunately for me most of the other players in my game are also enigmatologists. So, I do not get to use riddles as much as I would like in games. I do, however, like...

Trivia: Was D&D your first RPG?

Ah, then you must have been using the first edition, first printing rules. In every book after that there was the option that a failed Survival roll means you were injured and are forced to Muster Out at that point. I don't think I ever took hours to make a character in Traveller, but then I...

Trivia: Was D&D your first RPG?

Traveller was my first RPG. A friend of mine showed me the Journal of the Travellers' Aide Society and explained it went with a game that played like you were characters in a sci fi story. After that I begged my parents to get it for me. Christmas Day, 1979, I got the original boxed set and Book...

    RPGNOW Flood Charity Sale

That would be Jonathan Thompson, the editor I mentioned. I am also excited that the pdf will be bookmarked. That is something I have wanted for awhile.

    RPGNOW Flood Charity Sale

I have been told by my publisher that one of the games available for this charity drive is the OGL edition of Gaslight Victorian Fantasy. That is great news and I am glad we can help in such a worthy endeavor.

    Gaming Terms and Memes

So, what do those mean? Gish I am sort of familiar with, but probably have wrong. The others I have never heard before.

The new Gamma World - Thoughts/Questions

I find the description of the game interesting. Funny thing is, nowhere on the Wizards site can I find reference to these card packs. Sure, they have Gamma World and list 3 upcoming supplements, but the cards are nowhere to be found. Is there someplace on their site/catalog that talks about them?

Do You Write In Or Modify Your Game Manuals?

It may sound a bit odd, but my game books get a different treatment then just about every other book I own. For game books I sometimes write in errata; almost all get my name somewhere; tabs and flags are added for important pages; and large changes are printed out and stuffed in the books. I...

Do any of you still play 3.0?

I play a house modified 3e. I run this because I started the campaign with 3e and saw no really good reason to buy all new books for 3.5e. Not that 3.5e is bad. If I had started using 3.5 I would be happy with that, I am sure.

    Cat-people miniatures for Victorian Era

Does anyone have an idea of where I might find feline/humanoid miniatures that might work for a Victorian Era game? The would be like creatures from The Island of Doctor Moreau. I have not had much success.

RPGNow Pirate day sale and free stuff

Frost, thanks to you I got the Transylvania booty. Interesting that the last two I had to get through DriveThruRPG as opposed to RPGNow.

I also can't seem to get to The Great Below. I think that is because I cannot seem to find the Product Review page.

Fortune Cards: and randomized collectible cards come to D&D

No cell phone or computers are allowed at our gaming table, so checking them is not an issue in our gaming sessions. Smoke breaks happen very rarely, now that our last two smokers have quit smoking. Be that as it may, even if we did such things I know that the DM in our game would not allow some...

What are Your Favorite Out of Print RPGs?

I love DragonQuest, especially 2nd edition, because it was so modular and easy to add your own material. It's where I really started tinkering with games. I am curious, who published Victorian Adventure? As my sig might suggest, I have an interest in the genre.

    Trailblazer - List of Changes

That's perfectly understandable and reasonable. If a majority of people did not find it a problem I can understand why you chose not to deal with it. Hit points are described as an abstract measurement, whereas weapon weights are described as the actual weight of the weapon. So the designers did...
