Core Rule Books Only - What system would you play?

For me, it would be a tough choice. I think I could narrow it down to the following books (assuming no house rules): DragonQuest (2nd ed) GURPS (either 3rd or 4th ed) Classic Traveller Villains and Vigilantes (only has one book) I have played all of them without supplements or house rules and...

A couple of homebrew races for review

The first thing I noticed about the Ironwrought is that they do not follow the convention of attribute modifiers. They need a positive mental (Int or Wis in this case) which follows the +physical/+mental/-anything format. Other then that I am a bit tired and need to sleep before commenting any...

    Are prestige classes still viable?

My group is very similar to Jhaelen's. I think the only player who has more then the PH is the one who runs another D&D game. Of course, a large portion of my group is also of the firm belief, that I cannot seem to change, that multi-classing at all is evil and wrong and should never be done...

    More Bribery! Google Wave Invites!

This is exactly what I was saying. I did not want to offer to help if I was not going to be able to help due to not using the software. I've reread the initial offer a couple of times and each time came away thinking that Google Wave was somehow used to develop the site. Since I have never used...

    More Bribery! Google Wave Invites!

Let's see, it must be coming up on five years old. It has a Pentium 4 processor, but sometimes runs slow when using graphically intensive programs. Plus sometimes my internet connection is not the best, but that is another issue not dealing with computer age.

    More Bribery! Google Wave Invites!

Wow, I am sorry that you took my response in the way that you did. What I meant, and what I thought I said, was that I would need to test Google Wave on my computer before I could help. I am honestly not sure if it would actually work on my computer, due to its age, among other things. I did not...

    More Bribery! Google Wave Invites!

My only problem is I would really want to test Google Wave before I committed to doing a project like this. I would need to know it worked well on my system and that I found the software useful before hand.

    Pathfinder 1E Litorians in Pathfinder

So, I am thinking of converting my highly modified 3.0 game to Pathfinder. One of the things I will need to do is convert a number of races from Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved to Pathfinder. I figure I will start with the Litorian. Now to be honest, I have not read all of the Pathfinder book yet...

Did you ever play Empire of the Petal Throne?

I have played three times with Professor Barker running the games. This was at a con several years ago. It was great fun to play with the creator. Talk about not needing any notes!

    Feats 101 - What're you using?

Wow, looking at the name of the post I was rather hoping it was someone's blog or something talking about feats and how best to use them. For me, that would be useful!

So I wanna tie someone up ...

Funny you should mention GURPS. That is what I spent many years playing, playtesting, and even writing some material for it. So, you can see where I get my tolerance for skills. :)

So I wanna tie someone up ...

I guess that coming from a long history of skill-centric games, I find that just about any skill, no matter how specialized, can be useful in a game. I am not saying that what has been stated here is wrong, or should not be done, it's just different then my own views. That's cool, I get it.

So I wanna tie someone up ...

Would you include the lassoing of the anchor point as Acrobatics as well? I personally do not see it that way, but I guess if you stretched it enough you could. Personally, I just never saw it as a bad skill. Maybe it is because I have a lot of creative players who like finding unusual ways of...

So I wanna tie someone up ...

My gaming group has found some very creative uses for the Use Rope skill in the past. So much so that I have decided that when/if we switch to Pathfinder I am going to add it to the skill list. One of their favorite tricks was to do a classic stunt from old westerns. There would be a chasm they...

Products you'd love to see published (but probably never will)

OK, let's try this again (third attempt to post). The one thing that I would really like to see published that never will be is DragonQuest: The Complete Edition. It would contain the 2nd edition rules, the unpublished Arcane Wisdom supplement, and all the published adventures from SPI and TSR...

What is THE standard of hex grids?

For me and my group 1.5" hexes is a complete miss for every game we play, both RPG and wargame. Everything we play that uses a hex grid uses 1" hexes. All our miniatures are based for 1" hexes. All the scenery is based on 1" hexes. For us, a map board that uses 1.5" hexes would be completely...

What is THE standard of hex grids?

I use hex boards for GURPS, Living Legends, Traveller, and any other game I can convert to hexes. I prefer hex to square, to be honest.

Pathfinder 1E Why do you discuss Pathfinder on ENWorld instead of Paizo.com?

Seriously? I have not seen it in either browser I use. Neither of those features shows up in Firefox or Chrome. I refuse to use IE to read one message board. Hopefully if it is just a browser issue they will begin to support other browsers soon.

Pathfinder 1E Why do you discuss Pathfinder on ENWorld instead of Paizo.com?

I have been thinking about what it is that the Paizo message boards would need to make it a place I would post to more often, and I think I figured out some things. If the following things were part of the message boards I would find them a lot easier to use. Show which message threads I have...

    Renaissance Faire as Gaming Inspiration

The oldest one is now known as the Southern California Renaissance Festival. That is the one near LA that is done, I think, in the spring. The second oldest is the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, which started in 1972. That is where I am a performer. If people come out to the Minnesota show...
