They could do the slipcase, and then just sell each book separately later. I'm hoping they do that for Spelljammer.

I believe TSR doesn't own Pelinore. It was started by IMAGINE magazine, which went under, and then supported by Gamemaster's Publications, which was not owned by TSR. Means that TSR let IMAGINE mag's writers actually own the IP they made, I suppose. Gamemaster's Publications also went under...

Well, I'd skim over some planes (or skip entirely) to give the fun ones more space. Like, I don't think anybody needs much info on Bytopia, for example. Gives more space for the Nine Hells, which as you can see by this map by the Mock Man, can be extremely flesh out...

Oh, I admit that Planescape fans love the factions. Disproportionately so to their value, but I digress. I also took a look at Planescape adventures (thank you Adventure Lookup), and although many of them start in Sigil, few of them are only in Sigil, or even primarily Sigil. It's mostly "You...

I totally disagree. Sigil is the hub location, much like how Sharn is in Eberron. It should get a good chunk of material (much like Sharn does in Eberron's book), but no way is a Planescape book a "Sigil only" book. Ravnica is a book about Ravnica, and Planescape should be a book about the...

Oof no thank you. I'd much prefer each Plane in Planescape gets the Domains treatment, not the factions. I'm looking for a Planescape setting book, and if its that many pages devoted to just factions in Sigil, that's way closer to a Sigil Setting Book. I'd be very frustrated with that. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Further Future D&D Product Speculation

I feel like the bet is relatively simple... if Greyhawk or FR gets a setting book around the 50th anniversary, and the book is partly marketed as related to the 50th anniversary, your team wins. If neither does, neither wins no one has to change avatars.

Can't you just put the very baseline traits of each faction in a table? I get that's the bare minimum of explaining factions, but you could do it. The pic below is a snapshot of one faction, briefly explained on a wiki. You could do similar info for each faction, in a table or something, and...

I'll get on this. I don't really know what the bet is, but if it is "Which setting gets a setting book explicitly as part of the 50th Anniversary" hell yeah Team Greyhawk makes way more sense there.

Yeah, I don't think WotC wants to redeem all of their IP. The popular stuff, sure. But I don't think Al-Qadim is exactly a powerful brand (it's just "The Old" in Arabic) and I would prefer to see some of these writers just get to start over with a blank slate. If you just take the name (and I...

To be honest, I feel the best thing is to not touch Al-Qadim, and bring in cultural consultants/writers to just make a new setting that is inspired by the Near East and Arabia. Maybe keep the old name if you really need to, but trying to reboot the old Al-Qadim seems like a lot of effort to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Further Future D&D Product Speculation

So I perused the Greyhawk Monstrous Compendium, and there aren't many monsters there that haven't been put into 5E. There are some, but they're pretty... not good. But most are just monsters we've seen like the scarecrow below. I really don't think there are enough unique interesting ones to...

I very much agree. Greyhawk fit a model much like Dragonlance did in my mind. In that, if it got a setting book like Eberron, it wouldn't expand D&D much. But Dragonlance getting it's mass combat game makes it a lot more expansive, and I think you could do the same to Greyhawk with say Domain...

Wheeeee setting speculation, my favorite thing! I think Parmandur is right on a lot of stuff in his OP. There are some things a disagree with, but I think I'll just provide my own thoughts on each setting. I'm actually going to use the "ye old" setting poll from way back...

D&D General DnD cosmology - Which Edition do you prefer?

I mean, Good and Evil are also pretty vague concepts too and we don't have to explain them much. I mean, even the most evil of beings like Asmodeus and Orcus think their actions are "Good" in that they work to create a world that they would prefer. Orcus thinks a world filled only with...
