D&D 5E (2014) What was the 'new format'?

    Seems like it does.

D&D 5E (2014) What was the 'new format'?

I assume it's the slipcase and cutting one book into three books. At first I thought it was three books at least 100 pages each, but this is much less exciting than that.

Here's the clarification. I for one am glad, Phlogiston was always a little too complicated.

Dragonlance DRAGONLANCE is coming this year!

I assume something like the former. WotC's definitely leaning into "sell minis" market, by looking at those ships for Spelljammer.

Spelljammer D&D Direct Live Report: 9am PDT (5pm BST) SPELLJAMMER CONFIRMED! DRAGONLANCE!

I mean, fair. I probably won't until at least Christmas. It's content I want, but $70 is a lot of money.

Art is subjective, but I've always found 5E's art of the highest quality. But yes, I agree that even if a price hike was inevitable, these are huge price hikes. Really unjustifiable.

Spelljammer D&D Direct Live Report: 9am PDT (5pm BST) SPELLJAMMER CONFIRMED! DRAGONLANCE!

I think it is absolutely fair to criticize a $20 price increase, that's a 40% price hike. I get inflation exists, but this is a major jump in price. If the books totaled 300+ pages or more, I could maybe defend it. But less than the Ravenloft book? Bad taste to me.

Spelljammer D&D Direct Live Report: 9am PDT (5pm BST) SPELLJAMMER CONFIRMED! DRAGONLANCE!

I'm disappointed by the lower total page count... it's smaller than past settings, and the "new format" is just meant to charge a higher price. Even with inflation as it is, I'd prefer a normal book at $60 than three smaller books at $70.

https://dnd.wizards.com/products/spelljammer It's not entirely clear, but it does sound like the Astral Plane is mostly taking the place of Phlogiston. It's repeatedly mentioned on the product page. Wild Space is also mentioned, so at least Astral/Wild Space seem distinct.

Oh... that's only 192 players, that's actually less than Van Richten's.

I'm dumstruck. Three books for one setting?!? Incredible, amazing, I'm so happy!

The last Star Wars movie made a billion dollars.

WotC WotC to power other IPs with D&D and M:TG

Depends on the size of the fees I suppose. But yes, I think there are many TTRPG companies that would absolutely leap at the chance to publish a Star Wards TTRPG. If Free League is doing ALIEN and The One Ring, it's hard to imagine them saying no to Star Wars. And right now the license does...

WotC WotC to power other IPs with D&D and M:TG

By the way, I remember in the last D&D survey there was actually a list of different IP, with the question being essentially "What do you like?" That would probably be a good thing to reference if trying guess what IP that D&D could cross with.

WotC WotC to power other IPs with D&D and M:TG

I dunno, the quote doesn't make it seem like a package at all. “You'll see us continue to expand the number of formats and reach new customer segments by expanding our Universes Beyond initiatives, which brings IP from outside of Magic into the Magic play system, We've talked a lot about...

WotC WotC to power other IPs with D&D and M:TG

Seems unlikely to me... the cross-overs announced so far seem pretty limited to MTG (Warhammer, LotR), and due to existing licenses I don't think that will change for those in a while. And I feel like both the licenser and licensee probably prefer to start small to gauge reception. Going big and...

WotC WotC to power other IPs with D&D and M:TG

I should also mention... although World of Warcraft (and Diablo I suppose), and League of Legends seem like great D&D supplements to me (and both have actually done limited crossovers before)... both compete with Magic the Gathering Online with Hearthstone and Legends of Runeterra. So they may...
