D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

I have played in all those modules and had a blast. It was fun to use my brain to figure things out then just roll dice to solve everything. Actually talk to the NPCs and figure out why the lighting was jumping. It was not that hard if you payed attention and actually talked to the NPCs to find...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

Those options in a powergamers hand can break games. Don't tell me that it is not an issue because I see it raised here a lot about players going to char op threads and making PCs that are so powerful that the DM has trouble coming up with challenges that work. But it is a book issue if there...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

Exactly every issue that has ever risen with K has been over options from Skills and Powers back in the days of AD&D to every splatbook book that came down the pike since. He believes that DMs should never say no to a player a lot like some people here. It is his opinion that every DM should be...

Actually it is partly a splatbook issue if it there were not splatbooks then this would not be an issue. Or did you miss the people saying they hate splatbooks for this very reason? I am saying that instead of not doing splatbooks DMs need to be able to say no.

The Week claims the economy causes role-players to "flee reality"

I have been involved in different fandoms since the 70s and I disagree with this article . Maybe for some it is an escape from a dreary life or a life they are unprepared to deal with. But for most of the people it is just a fun hobby.

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

pemerton my gaming group is made up as friends and just people I game with. That is just how it is. I have noticed pros and cons which each. With just gaming buddies it is easier to kick them out of a game if they are disruptive. You don't have the whole friendship thing influencing you...

And the game would not have been improved by saying yes either. What in hindsight would have improved the game was not having K involved. Like I keep saying we have gamed with K for 18 years we have had dozens of games where he was not an issue he has only in 18 years had four issues where his...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

Some adults to behave like children now and then and when they do they are no different than a two year old throwing a tantrum. Well there is one difference the two year doesn't know better. An adult should know better. An adult should accept that they are not always going to get their way and...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

It wasn't and I put the blame firmly were it belonged on a player who decided that his only choice was to act like a spoiled brat instead either finding another class in the core he could have had fun with or saying I really don't want to play in this game but hey have fun. But now we have a...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

HussarI don't recall anyone saying that it was unsuitable to reskin or try and compromise with players. What is being said is this if you can't find a compromise then the DM has the final say and if the player is not happy with that he needs to decide can he play in this game and if he can't...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

I am the same way. One of the DMs I played with since 1986, she passed away last November, hated psionics with a passion she hated the rules for them felt that they didn't really fit in a fantasy world with magic. She never came out and said no you can't play one but it was obvious anytime...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

You really reach don't you. The whole unhappiness started because he couldn't play a gunslinger. This player who I have known for 18 years is the type to allow his out of game life to intrude if he is unhappy in the game. If he is happy and having fun in the game then it doesn't. He derailed...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

There is something I have been thinking about when it comes to this and the DMs need to be willing to say yes there is a flip side players need to be the type that makes it easy for the DM to say yes. I find it much easier to say yes to players who I know are not trying to deliberately find...

What is your Favorite Version of D&D?

For me the the best edition is 3.5/Pathfinder. I do enjoy 2E as a break especially if it a Forgotten Realms game. I don't like 4E at all as for 5E I am not sure until I actually play it but at this point from reading things it is not screaming at me play me.

I am a female but I don't take offense if I am called he on a forum. In Pathfinder gunpowder is an optional rule. As it should be. Not everyone want gunpowder in their fantasy settings because it changes so much. The reason plate armor disappeared was once gunpowder and bullets were invented...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

I have noticed a lot more me me me type players in the last 15 years then I used to see. But then I see a lot more of this everywhere. The whole my rights come first instead of my rights stop where your rights start. I feel that it is up to everybody players and DM alike to make the game fun...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

So I spent the last couple of days laid up and I see the circular argument is still going on. The argument that if DMs restrict things then they are being high handed and dictatorial and only care about their fun is now 29 pages long. And the idea that if a player does not want to play he is...

D&D 5E (2014) Supplemental books: Why the compulsion to buy and use, but complain about it?

I never said the DM is a novelist. I have met many players over the years who don't want to be involved in the world building or who won't even bother to read the setting or write a background or give me any idea of what they want. I would jump for joy if I had more players like that actually...
