the Hexer, AWESOME!...oh no I take that back

That is how I and most of the DMs I have played with have looked at it. I always cast a leery idea when a player comes to me wanting a prestige class. One of my rules you have to clear prestige classes with me as well as multiclassing. I think handled correctly prestige classes can add flavor to...

the Hexer, AWESOME!...oh no I take that back

Sorry but I will walk out of game if I have to deal with a player whose is only in the game because he or she is hot or the DM is or hoping to sleep with them. A contribution needs to be for the benefit of the entire table not just the DM.

the Hexer, AWESOME!...oh no I take that back

I have to agree with you on this this character is not only a lame duck but a drain on the party an it sounds like it was DM fiat that it became important. As a player I would have been seething dragging this PC around wasting resources on him while we he contributed nothing to the party. The...

D&D 5E (2014) What D&D should learn from a Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones)

As an option it would be great and I never understood why WOTC does not look at putting out books with options that help DMs who want to try different styles of play.

D&D 5E (2014) What D&D should learn from a Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones)

I hated this aspect of old school gaming back in the day. I found that most players can't easily role play more than one character and are uncomfortable role playing a conversation between their two characters. It also clogged combat at least in my experience. I think this is one of those play...

D&D 5E (2014) What D&D should learn from a Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones)

I have to disagree with this. I would hate playing in a game where there is a stable of characters. One of the main things that attracts me to the game and the people I play with is the idea of fully developing a character and being a proxy in the game world. And I don't see why it is something...

D&D 5E (2014) What D&D should learn from a Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones)

I think DnD could learn that some people want a lower magic gritty game and give options to allow that kind of game without the pounding a square peg into a round hole we have now. That being said I think it would be a mistake to have such a lethal game and such fragile PCs as the standard. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) The cost of D&D 5E (it ain't so bad!)

This was a big sticker shock for me and lead me to the decision not to buy the books and stick with what I have for now. I am on a fixed income that has not kept up with true inflation so I have to budget very carefully. Comparing it to other entertainments rarely makes much sense to me...

    Anyone remember Alien Nation?

I enjoyed both the movie and TV series as well as several of the books and the comics. I will keep an open mind but I don't trust Fox. It was only sea water that burned them. Which i always though was kind of lame. As for getting drunk on fermented spoiled milk that I could buy we get drunk...

Star Wars: Disney scraps the Expanded Universe

Enjoyed the trailer quite a bit and I only knew about half the names. I have enjoyed most of what I have read in the EU. There are a lot of stories that I think would translate onto the screen.

Planning Ahead, or Living For The Moment?

My aunt lived through the depression and she held onto things. She had a freezer filled with expired food and a two pantries filled. If she was given a gift of expensive chocolate she would not open it to save for a later date. When she died I found gorgeous Irish lace linens from her wedding...

    D&D 5E (2014) Simulation vs Game - Where should D&D 5e aim?

But bad rules that are to gamist in danger can make it very hard to maintain a more simulation style game.

Planning Ahead, or Living For The Moment?

I used to be big on the practice of save for a rainy day and I did. It did help when I became disabled and had to endure the long fight to get on disability. Now a days I live hand to mouth simply because of just how low my income is. It so stressful when emergencies happen so I am not sure why...

    D&D 5E (2014) Simulation vs Game - Where should D&D 5e aim?

I want my cake and eat it too. I want a game that feels like a real living world with real characters so I am more of a simulationist style player and DM. But I recognize that it is a game and we need rules to simulate actions. So I accept we are going to have rules that are totally gamist in...

    what does Orc+Elf equal?

I have had a player who preferred weirdness for the sake weirdness and I often had to say no or reign him in by allowing some but not all of his ideas. I used to dread character creation. He was a good friend and not an asshat but he often lost sight of the fact that in the end it is a game not...

Star Wars Episode VII cast announced...

That was one of the first things that struck me as well. And kind of disappoints me. I have read a lot of the comic books and they often feature strong women. I am surprised because JJ Abrams has never shied away from having strong woman in his shows.

    what does Orc+Elf equal?

I am aware of them and have used both in games. I was thinking your common game elf with these huge antlers on their heads. Which followed playing around with mechanics for head butting. Yes I was bored today.

Giving a PC a flaw at every level..good idea or bad idea?

If the player is on board this can be a great plot for them. As a Shadowrun player I really like disadds that have a real game effect. I never been satisfied with it in DnD because they are not really disadds. To make it worth the feat they should have a real impact on the character.

    what does Orc+Elf equal?

I am not making a judgement on how you run your game or your game world. It is just I have a hard time believing a race of enlightened chaotic good elves would murder in cold blood another sentient being who is not evil based on their birth. It is not like they asked to be born. So for my...
