    D&D 5E (2014) Mearls on other settings

This was, like, a week ago, but I think this sums it up perfectly. Having seen numerous campaign conversions over the past decades, I honestly think 4e Dark Sun was probably the best-handled of them (and the 4e FR was probably the worst). The 4e DSCS kept what was core to the setting, and was...

    Pulling the plug

Hey, OP! Great post; I am with you. My group and I hung with it during a lot of the playtest, and tried out Murder in Baldur's Gate ... and my players pretty much hated it. (And I was not a huge fan, myself.) I got the Big Three, because it's D&D, and it just kind of left me cold. It was...

    D&D 4E Core 4E vs. Essentials

In order - No, Yes, Whatever No: I do not believe WotC would sink money and time into a product designed to fail. That's first of all too Machiavellian, and second of all too absurd. WotC doesn't have money to flush down the toilet. Yes: The core audience for Essentials was the lapsed players...

    D&D 4E Core 4E vs. Essentials

Hm, good question. Yes and no. I think feats are great when they are fitting into a specific design space where they are helping to flesh more detailed concepts out of a more generic base. But I can't draw a bright line. Like, we can just pretty much scratch out all of the must-have and...

    D&D 4E Core 4E vs. Essentials

Yeah, Expertise should have just been rolled into the character math. (The upside is that it gives you one less feat you need to actually think about!) I haven't found too many balance issues with the simplified E-classes; we have a Thief in my Level 30 game that's still sailing along juuuust...

    D&D 4E Core 4E vs. Essentials

Yeah, I just use everything. I have found that classes from all levels of complexity work just dandy in play, together. Even stuff that looks broken at first blush - like Warlords' interactions with Basic Attackers - aren't really a problem. I don't even really look at it as a separate thing...

ZG 12/13 Motivation Issue (major spoilers of course)

I get what you're saying, but ... that's not really made clear anywhere in the prologue. Instead, it's all about failure and reminders that the Adv13 Party doesn't have any idea what's going on in the Gyre. Pemberton says he has a plan, but that's about it. Anyway, thanks for the input. :) One...

ZG 12/13 Motivation Issue (major spoilers of course)

Okay so we just got to the big shake-up climax helix bit partway into adventure 12 where we start adventure 13 right in the middle of it. And my players were pretty confused - and me along with them. Maybe I missed something, but if the party is pretty convinced that their expedition to the...

The New D&D Adventure Is - Tomb of Annihilation!

Welp, the looting of Greyhawk's corpse that really got rolling in 3e continues apace. Also, the original conception of Chult has a whole lot of colonial/racial baggage. It'll be interesting to see how WotC threads this needle, IMO.

Question on Adventure 12 (Spoilers, ofc)

Hey, what do I win for Stump the Author? B-) I think that sounds totally fair. The eladrin in question has the Mask of the Unseen Court anyway, so Fey Step is rather academic. Thanks!

Question on Adventure 12 (Spoilers, ofc)

oooh! And do Eladrin start teleporting again, or do they keep the Hit Incorporeal Stuff ability (which has proven amazingly useful, by the by)

Question on Adventure 12 (Spoilers, ofc)

When the PCs are hopping around the Gyre, what planar physics apply? For example, can they still Fourmyle Jaunt? Will Ostea still stabilize them if dropped below 0 HP? Is there still a block on Radiant powers? :) We're just wrapping up Adventure 11 (4e version) and I'm trying to get my prep...

    Map of Alais Primos?

Hey folks! Has anyone come up with a map for Alais Primos? We're in Adventure 11 and even a rough sketch would help. :)

Apparently none of y'all watched Twin Peaks

Well, apropos of nothing, it took me way too long to catch the Star Wars references in the Jierre family. Han, Luc, Lya ...

    Cut scenes in your RPG

I used cutscenes all the time when I was running Star Wars Saga Edition. The more cinematic the game, the more likely it is that I'll use cutscenes. The Zeitgeist adventure path uses them a few times, as well, to great effect. Because - again - cinematic.

I just finished the final adventure

I'd be happy to help out, and can comment cogently about any 4e-specific stuff.

    "Database Error"

I am getting exactly the same error message, but only on some of the forums. General Tabletop is the main one. If it helps, I am on Chrome.
  19. Obryn

OK, what about this one? Can you see this?

I can see this thread. I cannot however see several of the forums due to a Database Error. :)

    "Database Error"

Ditto. Database Errors on General and on the EN Publishing forums. The 5e and 'older editions' forums work fine.
