Arcane Power questions ahead of time

How do you replace a dead familiar? How much time/resources does this cost? Are there some penalties affecting you when your familiar dies? I apologize in advance, if these questions are already answered and I somehow missed them.

Anyone else not feel "the grind"

Well, if the Ranger attacks twice, that kinda gives him the best chance to hit at least once... In my experience, only the Warlock has a significantly harder time hitting compared to other PHB 1 strikers, even if he has attacks targetting multiple defences and tries to use the most beneficial one.

Anyone else not feel "the grind"

Yep. No grind here. I experienced some slow battles when I tested 4E rules for the very first time, but since then - no problems at all. And I participate in several campaigns. Battles are quick and cool in every one of them.

Hit or Miss: Odd Wording on Avenger Powers

About the divine challenge - here is the perspective of Wizards CS: I will play it this way - effects triggered on enemy attack happen before the attack is rolled, effects triggered on enemy hit or miss happen after damage is rolled (if any damage is rolled). Yes, I know many people don't...

Hit or Miss: Odd Wording on Avenger Powers

The debate, as I understand it, is if the damage from the enemy attack is included in the trigger (the attack), or happens after it.

Hit or Miss: Odd Wording on Avenger Powers

I am not sure that I agree with this statement. Another possible interpretation is that the "hit" includes the damage, and the attack does not.

Hit or Miss: Odd Wording on Avenger Powers

It is not an interrupt, but it is also not a reaction. I always used it as a reaction (after the attack resolved), but the different avenger wording "hit or miss" let me to think that it maybe is supposed to happen at the moment the attack is declared.

Hit or Miss: Odd Wording on Avenger Powers

How about the damage from the paladin's divine challenge? The rules state that it triggers the first time when an enemy makes an attack that does not include the paladin as a target. Does this mean that the damage will apply before the attack is resolved? I have a paladin character that would...

    Worst Dice Luck Ever

I don't know if this would be any consolation, but the probability of rolling 8 20s (or any other 8 rolls in order) would be exacly the same as rolling 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2 in this order. So every time you roll 8 20-sided dice, a very improbable event occures, regardless of results.

    How do you determain challenges?

I agree 100%. This is the best encounter setup system I've ever used. And the quickest, too.

    Viable Party?

We play in a party without a leader. My character is a Paladin and has Lay on Hands twice daily. No problems so far, but I am multiclassing it with a Warlord, just to be on the safe side.

Summoning and the Hypothetical Battle Reality

I really don't want to sound like I'm nitpicking here, but shouldn't he have bloodied value of 20 (10 + 14 + 4*4)/2? Also, pretty much every one of the 3 wizards I saw in various games took Toughness and Leather Armor proficiency before level 5 (although I agree that this may differ with other...

    Playtest: Primal Power

I am curious about the number crunch on this. 22 initiative at level 15, wow :)

    Marking Ring Standard

Thank you very much for sharing this idea! It is exactly what I needed for marking conditions, hunter's quarry, etc. Here's some XP!

Level 3 PCs vs. Level 8 Monster?

Why don't you adopt the ogre encounter from the first adventure of Scales of War adventure path? It was a very cool encounter with level 8 ogre and some hobgoblins against 1-st level characters. The catch was that the ogre was in an unique position, limiting its actions (tied to a cart filled...

To split or not to split

This sounds a bit strange. The player not only sacrifices the additional attack, but has to attack an ally with it! In any case using split the tree against a single oponent is suboptimal and not disbalanced, I don't see a reason to make it even more undesirable. However, in the end its your call.

To split or not to split

I have allowed it in my game.

    Domination and Opportunity Attacks

In case anyone cares, here is the answer from Customer Service: Personally, I think that forcing a dominated creature to provoke OA from all enemies in the vicinity is way too nasty.

    Domination and Opportunity Attacks

Dalzig, I am curious how exactly do you rule your games? No OA while dominated, or something else? Tale, as far as I know, the Forced Movement text in the Player's Handbook applies only for push, pull, and slide. Otherwise some strange conclusions would be made - like ignoring difficult terrain...

    Domination and Opportunity Attacks

If a dominated creature is forced to move, or make a ranged attack, does it provoke Opportunity attacks from its enemies? How about provoking Opportunity Attacks from its allies?
