    Weapon/Implement Expertise: +1 to-hit?! Yuck!

Actually, there was a fairly recent thread theorizing that every extra +1 to attack is worth less than the previous ones. Maybe someone can provide a link?

Dex stat modifier- does it add to your Initiative ?

Yes, Dex is added to your initiative.

    Weapon/Implement Expertise: +1 to-hit?! Yuck!

Hard to tell... I think most people will eventually take both, but it is not obvious which one is more desirable. For the last character I made probably Toughness would be the first one (serious low HP issue). Oh, and I agree that it is not cool to have "must have" feats.

Forked Thread: Preview: The Shaman, the first broken class.

Good point. It really looks pretty much the same as a wizard summoning a conjuration such as the Flaming Sphere (that even can't be harmed at all and hits automatically nearby creatures).

    Weapon/Implement Expertise: +1 to-hit?! Yuck!

If by "half" you mean "almost all", then yes. In all the games I played, this was the most popular feat by far.

    Preview: The Shaman

I like the shaman, especially the fact that he does most of his "schtick" through his spirit companion - this will give him a very different flavor and feeling than the other defenders. For me, the bard and the invoker are the two disappointing classes from all previews. All the others I like...

Forked Thread: Preview: The Shaman, the first broken class.

You may be basing your reasoning on a false assumption - that the shaman spirit companion may operate on its own, without the shaman present; that they share senses; or that the shaman can command it without revealing himself from hiding. None of this is indicated in the preview. The village of...

    Preview: The Sorcerer

There are two defensive utility powers, surprisingly one of them even allows the sorcerer to grant resistance to a fellow party member. There is also a power that extends the range of his spells and a power that gives bonus to a single skill check (any skill).

    The Changing Game

"Certain combat matters" - yes. "The game is the same at level 1 and level 30" - no.

    The Changing Game

As far as I know, this was never stated and you are just twisting the words of the developers in order to make a point. They stated that they want to expand the "sweet spot" but this hardly means that the game is the same at every level. On the contrary, both the PHB and the DMG state that the...

Why do you keep playing 4e?

Because its elegant, fun to play, dynamic, refreshingly new and balanced. 4E refreshed my insterest to the game both as a player and as a DM. I loved 3/3.5E, but now I can't imagine going back to them as a DM.

    Tempests with double weapons

You may find this thread helpful (or not): http://www.enworld.org/forum/d-d-4th-edition-rules/245684-am-i-reading-something-wrong-tempest-fighter-just-better.html You will find there a post from one of the developers, commenting how double weapons were changed before releasing the book.

D&D 4E D&D 4E and psychology: Hit chance too low?

I know what you mean :) A character in my game hit with a 2 on the die roll at level 5. Granted, he was a rogue attacking Will of a very will-less monster, but 5% chance to miss, even with a single attack, is pretty impressive.

    Swarm and Opportunity Attacks

For some reason I always thought this meant that only entering/exiting an enemy's space does not provoke OA. Today it dawned on me that possibly the rule (or design intention) is that the movement of a swarm never provokes? Logically this kinda fits with the idea of a swarm. The wording of the...

    Warlock's Curse multipliers

Don't forget that the Rod of corruption spreads the curse INSTEAD of taking the normal benefit from your pact boon... So it is kind of a tradeoff.

Can you take 20 in 4th edition?

There is some text about this in the DMG, although it is only related to "searching the room" - check out page 41. I see no problem to let my players take 20 when they can retry and have a plenty of time and advise you to do the same.

Seconded, I also miss the range indicators.

"Stuck" playing 4e (i.e. unwilling converts)

On the matter of "pleasantness to read" - to each his own, I guess. For example, I loved playing 3.0/3.5, but for some reason never liked the way the DMG was written. 4E DMG appeals to me much, much more. On the other hand the 4E PHB feels a little bland (just the basics, nothing more) and...

"Stuck" playing 4e (i.e. unwilling converts)

Hate to throw myself in the middle of what might turn into an edition war, but I would just like to point out the passage on page 23 in the DMG that states that if two wooden doors are exactly the same, they should also have the same break DC. The suggested DC per level just suggests what kind...
