    D&D 5E (2014) Something I find tacky

Something I find tacky is WOTC declaring it's DM appreciation month and then suggesting that we celebrate this by buying stuff from them. That's just in bad taste.

D&D 5E (2014) I believe the D&D boardgames actually hinder the table top game.

Sailor Moon: Isn't that image Hero Quest, that's an old Games Workshop game, right? I'm not entirely sure how that supports your point.

D&D 5E (2014) I believe the D&D boardgames actually hinder the table top game.

The only downside I can think of is that boardgames might be using development people (and possibly budget, etc) that might instead be working on D&D. But, not being privy to insider information at WOTC I don't know that's the case. It is a resoanable assumption given the small D&D staff but...

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

I'm glad they are trying something new too. I'm just not sure they are allocating enough resources to pull this off.

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Jester C: I think you're right on the money with what WOTC is trying to do. I'm just not sure it's going to work. Problem #1: That larger audience including board gamers, video games and the like has a lot of overlap with the RPG crowd already. I'm not sure they are going to reach a ton...

    D&D 5E (2014) Any Realms news?

WOTC (and to a lesser extent TSR before them) made the mess. I don't think its unreasonable to expect them to clean it up, especially when they heavily implied with the Sundering PR that they were going to.

    D&D 5E (2014) Any Realms news?

I'm sorry if I've been negative in this thread. I'm just getting discouraged by the way they are handling the Realms.

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

I think you have the explanation for their behavior there. They must figure that any bad PR from being silent and uncommuinicative is better than bad pr from plans falling through.

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Bryon raises a good point. And it's one that several people on the forums raised in January. I hope the answer is that they are working on something awesome they haven't told us about yet. It's possible....they kept the news of the new computer game stealth silent. I keep saying this...

    D&D 5E (2014) Any Realms news?

Alot of those changes sound pretty big to me. I'm still mystified by them using the Realms for their first 5E adventures and their organized play without an update. Especially when it follows periods of fan dissatisfaction and exodus (4E) and great change/renewal (the Sundering). It...

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Another thing to think about with the limited amount of releases...with a small number of products coming out, more pressure mounts for each one to be a success. Which means more design by committee type products where they try to create stuff by checklist to sell to the most people. And we...

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

I'm beginning to think that it's not just that WOTC doesn't want to do more because of fear of bloat but also that with staff levels so small they can't do more than they are doing. If that's the case, then getting the 3rd party stuff figured out right quick becomes even more important.

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Parmandur: I think I might be thinking about phrase "general plans" in a different way than you. For example, I don't think saying "we're going slow, gonna get things right and avoid splat bloat" is a plan. That seems to me more an ethos, a motivation driving a plan. If that makes any...

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Chriton227 's point is well made. The only thing I would say in response would be that explains why WOTC doesn't talk specifics. It doesn't explain why they don't talk general plans with the community.

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

DefCOn1: I see your reasoning and follow the logic that got you there (I hope anyway ). Two problems though. 1. If WOTC is trying to change the paradigm on how they are supporting the game they need to do a better job of explaining that/presenting that because it looks like the public is...
