Level 6 fighter, where do I go?

Or, take the Observant feat, buff your Wis to 13, then go Storm Cleric. Or, take the Resilient feat, buff your Wis to 13 and get proficiency in Wis saves, then go Storm Cleric. Punishing people who fight you (via SC Lightning Rebuke) and punishing people who don't fight you is fantastic.

    D&D 5E (2014) Advice on a bard/warlock build

If your DM allows you the Variant Human and also allows Feats, a nice work-around is taking the Spell Sniper feat and learning Eldritch Blast that way. You don't get Agonizing Blast, sadly, but it also saves you from dipping into a class and gives your EB a disgustingly long range that ignores...

    D&D 5E (2014) Combat Encounter Difficulty

Players who don't have casters on their party (ie they use Football / Leeroy Jenkins tactics) tend to take advantage of DM's who don't use spell-casters to their full efficiency. I speak from my own experience. In my fledgling days as DM, I hated statting out wizards and their various spells...

[OOC] Horror High - Freshman Year

"Ok. Yeah. Mmm. We used to do eight balls. Oh those were fun, weren't they? Nothing like getting a bunch of coke! Right? That was usually, like, eight balls were usually like four guys on a Friday night. One guy at 8-o'clock goes, "Hey man. Let's get an eight ball! It'll last us all weekend!"...

    D&D 5E (2014) Cleric / Monk MC

Sun Soul Monk/Light Cleric is one option I thought of - Storm Cleric could be great for lolz as well. Heck, even with the new Arcane cleric, you could throw a bunch of stuff that isn't light. :)

Help me build a Trickster Cleric

Next question is: is your DM going to allow you to take advantage of such a character? Making a skill-monkey in a group who likes to fight is great if you're playing a pre-gen (as the authors generally account for a party having at least one Rogue/skill monkey), but if your DM is all about...

I blame the drugs. It's always drugs with you kids.

    Gahh!! Wild shape!?

Ghostwise Halfling Druids can speak telepathically in Wild Shape. Just sayin'. ^_^ Also, that Druid has to be level 8 to change into a fly because it can, well, fly. Also also would a fly be considered a vermin and not a beast in 5e? I don't recall for sure.

Help me build a Trickster Cleric

If anything, I would think duties of Maskarrans would be Mafia-esque, either managing large sums of money or arranging for ways to procure sums of money. Since Maskarrans are all about being hidden, pretending to be anything BUT a Cleric would also be fitting - having the Actor feat would be...

[IC] Horror High - Freshman Year

As the squad car rolled into the parking lot of Belmont High, a wash of nostalgia overtook Janice, a combination of elation and melancholy. To think that she had successfully 'gotten out' of this tiny berg, only to return again... Most kids dreamed of leaving for the Big City. They all talked...

Why do you hate meta-gaming? (And what does it mean to you?)

I've been playing D&D for over 25 years now; meta-gaming, and politely ignoring it, comes easy to me. Worse to worst, I usually ask the DM for Knowledge or other checks before I allow my characters to act on my foreknowledge.

Well, first question is: which God/dess do you worship? That usually gives some indication of your 'duties'.

I'm sure you've seen the Outlander background; it would likely let your character draw maps from memory.

Does anyone use "The Adventurers' Guild"?

In my earlier gaming days, "The Guild" was where players went to get info on quests/interesting stuff to do. The Guild works better for sandbox-style games than others. Note that the Eberron setting offers Sharn, a city-based, guild-focused hub for characters who want to get involved in...

    HELP! I'm a new DM

Worse to worst, you can always run pre-generated (pre-gens) adventures to get used to running combats and the like. Given your 3.5 experience, you'll find that 5e doesn't vary that much from those core rules. I do count DMing as being a bit of an entertainer, in that you need to know what your...

    D&D 5E (2014) Creating PC for level 12 campaign

Bards rock on toast. Valorbards are fighter-y without being too Fighter-y and full caster-y without being too Wizard-y; they are also a 'force multiplier' by being able to heal and buff teammates. You'll also hear people praise the Lorebard because she can steal spells from other class lists...

D&D 5E (2014) Ritual Caster feat: cleric choosing cleric?

#realtalk, if your DM is presenting scenarios where your Cleric (or dedicated Ritual Caster) can use your prepared spells as rituals, kudos to your DM. If you have a group of players who are willing to wait ten in-game minutes for you to do so, kudos to your players. :)

    DM Advice

If it helps, consider the pre-gens and LMoP as a 'tutorial' to the D&D experience. If your players like it and want to play more after LMoP, let them make new characters as usual. It's also likely best to start with the Basic D&D Rules: 4 races (human, dwarf, elf, halfling) and 4 classes...
