    D&D 5E (2014) BardTales- Woeful Table Tales + A Poll

Rules arguments infuriate me as a player, especially when it's during a session. But noting infuriated me more than wasting a night of RP which was promised to be "a well-thought out adventure with a DM who's known for his deep stories and plots" and presented with "a castle full of Death...

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like RAVENLOFT

I _want_ Castlevania in my Ravenloft, but whips just don't do that much damage... It was my understanding that the Demiplane(s) of Dread were created specifically to torture their Dread Lord with whatever turned them to Evil in the first place. In Strahd's case, he 'went with it' and became...

    D&D 5E (2014) First character---need help

I'm of the camp that Race and Class and Rule of Cool > Mechanics, because Mechanics can be altered by the DM. I find that 5e is far more forgiving than previous editions of D&D. STR 18 WIS 10 DEX 10 Monk is a pretty extreme example, but this is the very example where the DM goes, "Yeah, okay...

    D&D 5E (2014) Oath of Vengeance Paladin?

We're all poking and prodding the specimen (the issue on the table) to see how it works and what we can do to remedy it. What I'm now seeing (since page 5 or so) is that the OP is looking for an in-game reason to give the player consequences for his actions when, in fact, is is the purview of...

Dannyalcatraz - Don't be so modest, you're always amazeballs. And so begins my gauntlet of ducking and weaving from as much holiday "cheer" as I can. I could just give in to the hype, but I really don't feel it.

Advice on running a noir setting

Your namesake is your first clue. Darkwing Duck is somewhat of a comedic take on the Noir genre. Noir games tend to have Black and Gray Morality. The struggles that characters face are often self-inflicted (addictions or other odious personal habits) or as a result of a double or triple-cross...

    Captain America: Civil War

Looks great, but better not be no Episode I trade negotiations bull-schnickety. If I want to watch a court trial, I can watch... uh... Boston Legal. And I would. Again.

D&D 5E (2014) STR and DEX fighter stupid?

Generally speaking, yes. Every team member should be prepared for most things, though, and even the barest of PC's 'should' have: a) a ranged attack (otherwise they can't fight flying or hard-to-reach opponents) b) a melee attack (otherwise they're all-out defending or disengaging, which isn't...

D&D 5E (2014) STR and DEX fighter stupid?

I almost always play high-DEX low-armor characters. If you're not married to greatweapon fighting, you could easily jack DEX to max and go with Finesse weapons, going into dual-wielding shenanigans if you like. Rapier is your highest-damage Finesse weapon (d8) so you could twin-rapier it, or...

D&D 5E (2014) How Do Monks Survive At Low Levels?

There used to be a super-good Grappling handbook online, but it may have died with the collapse of the WotC boards. It seems counter-intuitive, but a Monk who takes Tavern Brawler (for the free Grapple on a hit, which would be used in place of your normal unarmed bonus action) can whack and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interesting Race/Class/Background combinations

Dwarf Bard/Skald Sailor who embraces the sea life as a "saltbeard" (gently cribbed from Pathfinder). Has seen a lot of things and has many stories to tell. Throw a bunch of Dwarf Pirates on a ship and enjoy your new Vikings.

D&D 5E (2014) How Do Monks Survive At Low Levels?

Yeah, D8 HP, genrally the same AC as a medium-armored fella... Monks can skirmish quite well, and if built properly for Grappling, they can make silly-good defender types that lock down one or two opponents.

    D&D 4E Kara-Tur Supplement for 4e - Ideas?

If I'm not mistaken, the Heavenly Halberdier feat was created in that same Dragon article for Runepriests, making me think that the intent was for Runepriests to be the model for Sohei. (As I recall, Sohei employed naginata [glaive] as their go-to weapon)

D&D 5E (2014) Does Eberron need to be high fantasy?

I was always of the opinion that Eberron had 'pulp noir' as one of its influences. To that end, I don't see why a city-based campaign with lots of inter-house intrigue and skulduggery would also necessitate high fantasy (Warforged notwithstanding, but hey, Atomic Robo!). Heck, the OP could...

    D&D 5E (2014) using a revenant

I also vote for 'use it'. Sometimes it's good to remind players that killing every foe isn't always the best option. ^_^
