D&D 5E (2014) Daggers, Knives, and Darts...... Are there no Knives in 5E....?!?!?!

I was going to get all indignant, then Wikipedia proved S'mon right (if you accept wiki as a definitive source). I miss my 1d10/2d8 sword though... *snif*

D&D 5E (2014) Daggers, Knives, and Darts...... Are there no Knives in 5E....?!?!?!

A Knife is a dagger that does Slashing damage instead of Piercing. It also (historically) does 1d3 damage. Let's not be so cruel and just call a Slashing dagger a "knife".

Sounds like everyone comes here to air out their dirty laundry and Scott doesn't have quarters for the machines. ^_^

    Question about a feat

The most you could buff your sword is to +5 as there are no higher magical weapons in D&D 3.5/Pathfinder.

From a GM & Player to Game Designer

I'm curious as to your main point, TildenThorne. A person who knows true North would be 'better' at Navigation than someone who doesn't know true North and an arguably 'better' navigator than someone who needs to use tools to find the same... But ultimately, unless you (as DM) plan a lot of...

In a word... prime. But nah, the dreaded Xmas season is closing in, and with it, all of the cold and gross and misery.

    Building a ranged combat character

When do we get to see a regular rules article/podcast from the team of Greenfield and Dandu? I think it would be a great hit.

D&D 5E (2014) The Joy of Wild Sorcery - Post your amazing surge stories here!

The D100 roll is triggered by the Sorcerer using a spell of 1st level or higher; RAW, cantrips cannot cause Wild Surges. To which I ask, why even play a Wild Sorc if you're not going to go out of your way to cause Wild Surges? Said player is planning on switching to Dragon Sorc for a...

How to Encourage Melee Combat in a Sci-fi Setting? (5e)

It could be that the environment itself is too dangerous to employ energy weapons - flammable gas, weird gravity wells, or they attract all the wrong attention from the hostile wildlife. In Robotech, fr'ex, the Invid aliens harvest their special energy-flowers (called protoculture) for their...

D&D 5E (2014) The Joy of Wild Sorcery - Post your amazing surge stories here!

I've had a kind of anti-experience with my Wild Mage player. He'll use his Tides of Chaos once for the advantage roll... and then avoid casting any other spells except cantrips to avoid setting off a Wild Surge and getting his ToC refreshed. Weirdest play style I've ever seen...

If you like RPG, surely you've seen The Gamers movies. Right?

Chalk me up as a two-thumbs-down guy for Unicorn City and Knights of Badassdom. I was hoping to see TTRPG movies, not movies about LARPing. I found both movies to be terribly executed and flawed from start to finish. And maybe I'm crazy, but I was expecting far more from Peter Dinklage than...

    Creating a new pantheon

How about Gods of the Elements in-between the Elements? The Para-Elemental planes exist between the borders of their respective elemental planes, taking elements of both into themselves: Ice (Water/Air), Smoke (Air/Fire), Magma (Fire/Earth) and Ooze (Earth/Water). Your Fifth Element could be...

Help with FATE player that likes to make alternate characters

If said player is the type who enjoys tweaking character 'builds', what I feel he's doing is trying out all of the rules for a spin with each new character as an in-game vehicle for a new benefit/complication/whatever. In MMO's, we call this "Alt-itis". It's when a player re-rolls multiple...

D&D 5E (2014) So what happens when a non Drow attempts to become a dryder?

See examples of the Yuan-Ti race for some possible... uh... mis-matches of Driderism. Maybe one guy gets a spider head and spider legs on their own body with their own legs (Man-Spider). Maybe one guy gets his head on the front of a giant spider. And then the poor guy who gets 6 human arms on...

    November's SAGE ADVICE Is Here!

An Unarmed strike, when employed by a Monk, is a melee attack action that functions exactly as a finesse (by allowing the Monk to use Str or Dex) weapon (a crafted tool used to inflict damage upon a target) but is itself not a finesse weapon (and thus cannot be enchanted or subjected to effects...

D&D 5E (2014) Princes of the Apocalypse DM advice please

PotA is really rough for newer DMs, especially if they haven't run any pre-5e games. I'd _strongly_ suggest not skipping the prologue, or even better, running the Lost Mines of Phandelver to get your players comfortable with their characters and you comfortable with DMing, THEN jumping into...

    D&D 5E (2014) Running away on intimidation

If your foes are 150 feet away, throwing weapons aren't going to do much good... and if, by some bizzare twist, one of the party CAN hurl something that far, you bet your bippy I'm running AWAY from that guy.

    EBERRON: THE HIDDEN PbP

Ooooh, this makes me want to play a concept I've wanted to try for so long... Warlock (or Changeling!) Warlock/Cleric of the Traveller/Eldritch Disciple (Complete Mage) But I don't know if I have the attention span for _two_ PBP's. Let's see what comes out of the woodwork here.
