Paizo is competition to WOTC in the same way 'Bob's homemade computers' it to 'Microsoft'.
There are magnitudes of difference between them, but still competition in the end.
I am currently running the Age of Worms AP in Greyhawk.
I did not use the Dragonborn and have changed the Eladrins to fit the Greyhawk feel.
As for gods I am waiting to see the new divine feats from FRPG to assign them.
And this is their target market right now "disaffected 3.5 players", maybe 2 or 3 years from now when the anti-4e furor dies we may see some Paizo 4E stuff.
907 people out of a community of 70,000. Yeah 1.2% is very representative.
150+ at a convention or fistfull of people at your LGS out of millions of players is hardly representative of a trend.
If you really want to see where the market is going , you should see the sales revenues.

IMHO you are better off buying D&D singles. You can get most common minis from $0.20 and up. Just stay away from the ultra rare minis.
I have made my whole D&D mini set for rpging ( about 150+ minis ) with less than $70.00
