D&D General Luke Gygax Brings Back Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg

This is probably an unpopular opinion but a lot of Gygax’ later stuff was not great. Sure there is the nostalgia but from a writing perspective it was just fair.

D&D General Luke Gygax Brings Back Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg

I read the whole series back in the day and they were a slog. Gygax was very talented but fiction was not his forte.

    D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie Hit or Flop?

I liked the movie but I think it did have a pacing issue. It never felt like it got its feet under it for some reason. The Holga love sorry slowed the movie down and felt too silly even for the adventure comedy format. Like I said I liked it a lot. Letter grade a B+ but I do agree the pacing...

Kickstarter for Era of the Crusades - Historica Arcanum by Metis Media.

It looks great. They have delivered two previous kickstarters so it is pretty safe.

D&D 5E (2024) Are you going to buy the new 2024 D&D Core Books

Not that this poll is representative but if it was it would be good news for WoTC. Seems most will buy it. I suspect many of the 24% who don’t plan to, never intended to regardless and haven’t been playing 5E so they aren’t really a loss.

D&D 5E (2024) Are you going to buy the new 2024 D&D Core Books

I agree though it will likely check out the books my enthusiasm is way down. I really want Pact Magic and short rest related powers gone.

D&D 5E (2024) Are you going to buy the new 2024 D&D Core Books

I wonder if the thread should be for those currently playing 5E do you plan to buy the new core books.

D&D 5E (2024) Are you going to buy the new 2024 D&D Core Books

Probably but I am less excited than I was when the play test started. Really sad to see some of the things jettisoned in the play test like Warlock changes, regrouping the spells and consistent leveling up among classes.

GenCon 2023 RPG tickets sold. Update with breakouts by edition.

Good point. I am not sure if it is a misunderstanding or not. Of course there are casual gamers at GenCon. But the idea that GenCon is representative of gamers in general seems preposterous. Obviously there is no way to prove this but based on cost, location, age of attendee etc it does not...

GenCon 2023 RPG tickets sold. Update with breakouts by edition.

Ok. I tend disagree but that is ok. I did not attend this year but attended several years prior to Covid. I am not saying there are no casual RPG players there but I don’t believe the attendees are representative of most casual gamers. I say this as someone familiar with D&D clubs at local...

GenCon 2023 RPG tickets sold. Update with breakouts by edition.

Yeah I think is true of many of those games. People who attend GenCon do not represent at all the more casual gamer that makes up most local RPG players.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D's Classic Settings Are Not 'One Shots'

This rings so true for me. As tweens my friends and I loved the original Dieties and Demigods. It was a great book but some of the more mature content certainly was a draw too.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D's Classic Settings Are Not 'One Shots'

Dragonlance is my favorite. But let’s face it all their settings are missed opportunities. They should be living settings where things happen like KP Midgard. Instead they make one dimensional settings forever stuck in time. The books lack worldbuilding and really only serve as a narrow...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Exactly. Well said. Time is the issue. The play test to me appears kind of bungled. I know the OGL slowed it down but even then I am not sure they ever allowed enough time.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Thats the thing though….. we don’t know that people don’t want them. just Because something scores 70% doesn’t mean people didn’t like it more than what is in the game from 2014. There isn’t necessarily a direct comparison in the surveys.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Sure that’s possible if you completely ignore the information provided. Even most of the elements they are rejecting have positive reception just not the overwhelming majority threshold they set.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

I think the biggest issue with the playertest at this time is really lack of time. It is clear the process should have started sooner to allow more tweaks and resurveying. I think some of the new things being cast aside might be well received with minor tweaks but time is now too tight to...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

I agree. At this point I am not sure why I would buy the new PHB. Maybe weapon masteries but nothing else.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Yeah everyone at my table hates the current Warlock. The most convoluted class. Sad to see them revert.
