Yes DriveThru has done the scanning and clean up. WoTC does nothing other than collect the money. Some of the later editions probably had a digital copy for the original print run, so they should be even easier.
It seems that DMSguild has stopped releasing many classics especially for POD. Has anyone heard anything? I have emailed them but their customer service is not able to respond. The decisions are obviously being made at a much higher level. So many great books remain unavailable as POD and I...
Yes!! So many people on this site who obviously are done with D&D and WoTC have to come into the threads to say they hate it or don’t intend to play it, etc. Why do that? If it isn’t your thing move on to a thread or topic that is. You don’t see me posting in the Candelera Obscura thread...
Me too. I am pretty numb to the criticism. If anything it is starting to feel that the all the negativity is more telling about the the person/people constantly griping than it is about WoTC.
People on these forums have some weird ideas. Prices are going up for the 1st time in almost a decade on WoTC books, during a time of extreme inflationary pressure, and people think it is unreasonable. How many others things have you bought in the past decade that are the same price today...
I am sure WoTC would love everyone in DND Beyond with recurring fees. But I think the thought this is all just to force everyone into that ecosystem ignores the crazy levels of inflation over the last 18 months.
Yeah the quality of binding is not great. However they do stand behind the product. I bought my PHB in 2014. The binding failed in 2020. I contacted customer service and sent a picture that was dated and they mailed me a new PHB at no cost.
Yeah, but even then you still have warehouse storage costs, transportation from china and to retailers etc. with economy of scale I bet they can get the costs down to sub $10 but $4? If I had to guess I would say $4 is paper/ink.
I call complete BS on the cost of a book being $4. Maybe strictly the paper and ink but not development, salaries, marketing, art, shipping from China, warehouse storage, shipping to retailers, etc…the list goes on and on.
Well that is an interesting take but I think that is likely just a projection of your own feelings about D&D/WoTC.
If I had to guess which would be more successful in 5 years I would bet on D&D.
They aren’t ’coming after’ them. It is a potential area of growth. It was inevitable when Crtiical Role indicated they were moving into streaming their own games.
I didn’t see you indicate Critical Role was coming after D&D when they jumped into publishing.
I hear what people are saying and I just don’t see it. Seems the better question is when did WoTC start making fewer books you were interested in or liked less.
Has the actual quality gone down? How quality is being measured outside of personal preference seems pretty nebulous here.
It seems like most people on this thread are using when their favorite book was released to determine when 5E peaked.
I don’t think it peaked. To me it has been an ebb and flow. I thought Spelljammer was kind of a low point personally but Dragonlance and Keys to the Golden Vault are really...
Let’s have this discussion in 3 years. Several of those are 5e/One D&D adjacent and will likely be used with official 5E/One D&D products.
Additionally, as these are all big name players in the industry I expect they will do very well initially but I wouldn’t bet subsequent offerings from of...
I don’t think saying it has done poorly at the box office is an accurate characterization. It has done ok (fair or average work as well). It has not done great but neither has it done poorly.
