Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Really? This feels like one of those false two sides to every story, like creationism vs evolution. Sure there may be one or two people like that but the number of people who post in every thread just to bash WoTC, literally tanking whole threads, is an order of magnitude larger that the group...

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Disagree. It’s just as easy to add side quests or other plot points. I have seen a couple DMs who struggled organizing sand box style adventures. Leading to a disjointed and quite frankly boring adventure.

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

I think railroad adventures are underrated. Sand box adventures sound great but in the hands of the wrong DM they turn into a meandering slog. In my experience a good DM can make almost any adventure seem open but with enough structure to keep sufficient tension to keep things interesting and...

D&D General Greyhawk to Faerun and Beyond: A Multiversal D&D Lore Book Is Coming This Fall

Edition neutral means no game mechanics etc from this edition it doesn’t mean no recent lore or cosmology.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I don’t know that it is necessary. But the game is poorer without it. Ranger is an iconic fantasy staple. It should definitely be in. Now if you want to argue Warlock and Sorcerer, then you have my attention.

D&D 5E (2014) Who tried to end the OGL?

Maybe some details but I doubt we know the whole story and what prompted them to try it. I don’t see Chris Cooks or other senior leaders writing a tell all. Ben Riggs may spin a yarn but doesn’t mean he gets all the inside details.

D&D 5E (2014) Who tried to end the OGL?

    Maybe a little melodramatic.

D&D 5E (2014) Who tried to end the OGL?

We will probably never know the whys. But I think the general outrage probably misses a lot of nuance. I doubt the sole reason was to destroy all OGL products and he probably wrongly through that they were offering a lot of attractive carrots to 3PP. Not sure it even matters anymore.

[Kobold Press] Campaign Builder: Dungeons & Ruins is Live!

Was really hoping the next KP Kickstarter would be Midgard material. Still may back this, I did the other books in the series and I am sure it will be great but it has been a while since there was a new Midgard book.

WotC Hasbro CEO Chris Cox talks about D&D on NPRs Here & Now. Topics include Layoffs and OGL.

Agree with most of what you said. As for the OGL your certainty is not proof. Again while I believe the OGL benefited WoTC, there is no way to prove or disprove that. And people on these forums tend to have a bias since they like and rabidly support the OGL so we probably aren’t the best...

Not just TSR but most companies never would have or would do so. As much as everyone likes to say the OGL has been great for WoTC, and I tend to believe that as well, there is no way to prove or disprove that. Most of us are biased in that regard. I can see how many executives think it has...

Sure. But it seems clear to me there is nothing that will happen for you to move beyond that. It is in the past. Steps have been taken to rectify it. Does that mean WoTC is benevolent and can be trusted? Of course not. Does that mean WoTC is evil and out to destroy all RPGs? Of course...

I just find this type of logic to be a way to keep the WoTC grievances rolling. This scenario is highly unlikely but of course not impossible. It just feels exhausting to spend all this mental energy focusing on something that theoretically in the distant future could happen but probably won’t.

Well this forum brought out the usual suspects when it comes to WoTC bitterness. I don’t trust any corporations though I certainly can respect some of their employees. While I wasn’t a fan of WoTC trying to back out of the OGL I also understand that even having something like an OGL is rare...

ICv2 Reports Disappointing Year For Hobby Games Channel: TTRPGs Down, D&D Declines 30%

Tell me when you buy a car do you happily pay above MSRP? Would you go to Barnes and Nobles and pay 10-20% more than the price listed on the back? Sure they can charge above MSRP but in any imaginable business that is going to turn off customers. Especially when the product is available...
