    Cheap sneak attack items?

Hrm, Grease - I suppose that's an option. Would be especially fun with Sculpt Spell. :p There isn't a swift action 1-round Invisibility spell? I thought I saw that somewhere (back when I didn't know what Swift actions were). Thanks for the advice all.

    Sneak Attack + Inflict Wounds?

So I was discussing with a friend the other day.... a character concept of a rogue/cleric of Oldimarra.... and it brought up a discussion.... would you get sneak attack damage on an Inflict spell.... and if so would the sneak attack damage get halfed on a succesful saving throw? On the one hand...

    Cheap sneak attack items?

What are some good ways to allow a sneak attack (ie. deny your opponent their DEX) that are affordable at low to mid level (like 5,000gp or less)? Is there a spell that works like Blurstrike, or maybe a 1 round invisibility spell (I thought I saw something like that) that could go into a potion...

AoO to trip someone getting up from prone?

Ready an attack to trip when they are not prone. Done. As an aside, we have a house rule that you can move from prone to kneeling as a non-provoking move action. Ditto for kneeling to standing.

Meta Rod with a Meta'ed Spell

Could a wizard use a Lesser Metamagic Rod of Substitution on a Maximized Scorching Ray? In other words, does the Max'ed ray count as a 5th level spell (and thus outside the limits of a lesser rod) or does it still count as a 2nd level spell even though it has been prepared in a 5th level slot?

    Is Power Attack balanced?

And just toss in Improved Buckler Defense for the best of both worlds! A two handed weapon AND all the AC you can afford to strap onto your arm.

Improved Buckler Def + Shield Ward?

I guess I feel that all of the shield bonus feats are meant to offset the big bonuses of fighting two handed. If you are doing x2 power attack and x1.5 STR damage, then (balance-wise), I don't think players should be milking the shield feats at the same time. Since I also have trouble imagining...

Improved Buckler Def + Shield Ward?

Does Improved Buckler Defense (from Complete Warrior - allows you to add shield bonus to AC when fighting with a two-handed weapon) work with Shield Specialization & Shield Ward (from PHBII, pg82 - allows you to add shield bonus to touch AC, disarm/trip defense, etc.) ? And just to check, can...

    Staggering Strike

But that's not how it will work in practice. In reality it would be: Primary attack: make a Fort 17 or be staggered! Off Hand attack: make a Fort 16 or be staggered! Iterative attack: make a Fort 23 or be staggered! Imp TWF attack: make a Fort 12 or be staggered! And that's even more annoying...

    Staggering Strike

I just want to get a confirmation that this feat is meant to function as written (I have an erratta but it's a bit old, and I don't keep up with the non-erratta mumblings from WotC). It seems a little too good to be true so I wanted to check before we start using it in our current campaign...

Immovable rod in a sword hilt? Can you do it

"You say mithril, I say mithral... let's call the whole thing off..." Anyway, what feat is it that lets you impale someone with a sword? Just doing hit points doesn't even necessarily mean the sword touched the guy, let alone drew blood, let alone ran him through. Even a 20 point hit on a 100...

D20/OGL Product that allowed you to spend XP to gain class features?

Do you really reduce your current xp total when you level up? It must take your FOREVER to get to level 20! (or do you have a different definition of "spend"?)

Skill Focus: Concentration vs Combat Casting

In my experience, (way) more than 75% of my Conentration checks are for casting defensively, so Combat Casting is the better return.

Star Wars Saga Edition [SECR] Preview #2 is Up

That's funny, in my campaing I got rid of Repair instead and my game runs much better without it. I changed Pilot, Repair, and Computer Use - all part of my endeavor to fix a good system rather than throw it out for a more profittable one. Still, skill simplification could be a good thing (where...

Star Wars SECR's New Damage System.

Nah, I'm just saying that my impression of the SAGA edition is that they've simplified things far more than I like - spinning it as "cinematic" and "streamlined" and then using all the tired old "abstract combat" excuses we've grown accustomed too with D&D. I think that they are aiming for a...

Would you say no to Druid Shapeshifter + Warshaper?

I imagine it is much like making a changling (Eberron race) Warshaper. He can get into the PrC way earlier than intended and so the Warshaper powers are out of whack compared to other characters of equal level. My theory is that the PrC was made before things like changlings and PHBII druids...

Star Wars SECR's New Damage System.

While I on the other hand find this approach horribly, horribly, bad and certainly will never use it outside of high-fantasy D&D. Adding a damage track to the hit point system is like packing mud over a sucking chest wound and saying now its all better. Well of course that's not actually a...

How useful is the Artificer's craft reserve?

Thank you for the information thus far. I'm leary about waiving xp costs entirely as this is also going to be a campaign with LOTS of downtime. Money alone just doesn't seem enough of a hinderance (especially considering characters will be allowed to make money during downtime as well). I've...

How useful is the Artificer's craft reserve?

This question goes out to those who have played (or played next to) Arificers for a considerable time. How much of the Craft Reserve is typically used? If it is typically used up completely each level, how much xp is usually spent in addition? My initial feeling is that most Artificers would...

    Cartography Workshop

Speaking of trees, how would one go about crafting a forest like the one Chris West did in his excellent "City of Liberty" map? I'm familiar with using photoshop and lots of little green blobs (plus drop shadows, strokes, and bevels) to make forests, but can't manage West's beautiful unified...
