D&D 5E (2024) Inspiration From Nat 20 Will Bog Down The Game

If you goal was "Say a lot of words and have no discernable point" then kudos to you good sir/ma'am. I honestly can't tell if you are trying to comment on easy inspiration as being good, bad, or if even if it's relevant to what you wrote at all.

D&D 5E (2024) Inspiration From Nat 20 Will Bog Down The Game

I don't agree that any large majority of players is going to "naturally" do anything that impedes the flow of the game. Do your players constantly use Help actions and guidance at each and every skill check at your table, or do they trot those out for only very critical checks that carry...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&D is one D&D too much (-)

Having never played it I can't comment on the game directly, but it sounds like you are describing a system which is fair but unequal in character powers. Essentially the slayer plays one game and the minions play a different game with different rules and goals along side of them, leaving id...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&D is one D&D too much (-)

I'll bite. Can you give me an example where unfairness is a positive in game design?

D&D 5E (2024) It feels so much like the D&D Next playtest did

Remember when psionics we're being okay tested and the psi die carient of classes was released? It gave psionics a niche mechanic different than the base PH classes. At the end of the day the psi die=psionics mechanic was dropped because "people dont want to learn new things". Do you think the...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&D is one D&D too much (-)

I don't agree at all with the idea that this is a false playtest, but I do think that because the end result has to be compatible with 5e there are a lot more invisible barriers to where the material can end up than when DnD Next was happening. It's like we are remodeling a house (but can't...

D&D 5E (2014) Heat Metal Spell. Unfair to Heavy Armor Wearers?

If you don't already understand why this scenario is not fun for the players I don't think a message board discussion is going to make it make sense for you.

D&D 5E (2014) Heat Metal Spell. Unfair to Heavy Armor Wearers?

I'm referring to a GM employing not-fun-for-the-players tactics like having a druid cast heat metal then teleporting to the moon and concentrating on it.

D&D 5E (2014) Heat Metal Spell. Unfair to Heavy Armor Wearers?

I don't subscribe to this. By this logic the PCs will constantly be chasing plots already accomplished (ala Ozymandius from Watchmen) and slaughters already made so as the smart bad guys would always seek to avoid (or deathtrap) the PCs. There has to be room made for the PCs to have a chance.

D&D General "I have Played in or Run a Campaign Set in the Forgotten Realms" (a poll)

My answer would be no, but I always adopt the FR pantheon and divine politics in my games. I also might use organizations or groups like Red Wizards or Harpers, but I don't use the FR map or locations.

D&D 5E (2024) Dungeons and Dragons future? Ray Winninger gives a nod to Mike Shea's proposed changes.

Can the referee take away a fighters extra attacks or combat style? Sneak Attack is just the mechanic given to rogues to have them on par with other classes in damage per round expectations. They don't get scaling cantrips like casters or extra attacks like many other martials.

D&D 5E (2024) Dungeons and Dragons future? Ray Winninger gives a nod to Mike Shea's proposed changes.

I tend to view Steady Aim as a patch the designers used to ensure sneak attack is being granted as often as the designers meant for it to be used in combat. If there was better guidance in the PHB about the expected frequency of sneak attack damage I don't think it would have ever come up. In...

D&D General Poll: As a player, I am always justified in pursuing every advantage I find, no matter what.

This is the way. There is a certain sense of accomplishment at finding and exploiting a loophole once to see it in action, and then never touch it again because it would ruin the game for everyone. Warlocks always fighting in magical darkness, but being immune to the dark ess themselves is a...

Star Trek First Seasons- Ranking them All!

My votes for those keeping stats... S: 5, RO A: 4, 6, 3 B: 7, Solo C: 1,2 D: 8, 9, Clone Wars Series* * I'm sure it's awesome but every time I try to watch it I see Lumpy the Hutt and bouce right off. My need for completion and the garbage that is the first couple episodes means I can never...

Jamison Stone & Satine Phoenix's Apotheosis Studio To Wind Down [UPDATED]

Earlier you implied that empathy may be a dump stat for yourself, so I'm saying this to help you out, not be condescending or rude. There are times where a person mentions a problem to you....and they are looking for you to help with a solution. There are times where a person mentions a...

D&D 5E (2014) Invisible, hidden and within 5 feet of an enemy making a ranged attack

That's the idea, though. To point out how strict RAW play can lead to really dumb things happening in a game. Like coffelocks, simulacrum abuse, bags of rats, peasant ion cannons, and darkness spells that can be used as light.

Jamison Stone & Satine Phoenix's Apotheosis Studio To Wind Down [UPDATED]

What's your angle for even posting on this thread? Clearly you have said multiple times it's a non issue for you. Is it just to continually crap on some poor folks who maybe were taken advantage of? Your assertion that you can't be a victim if you don't follow "the rules" is utterly...

D&D 5E (2014) Invisible, hidden and within 5 feet of an enemy making a ranged attack

Here's an alternate way to think about the rules in question here. Tom and Jerry are having an archery contest. Three shots and highest score wins. Tom has no idea who Jerry is. Jerry knows that Tom killed his master and burned down his dojo. Jerry is hostile to Tom. Tom and Jerry line up...
