D&D 5E (2014) Worst Metagame Anti Player Creature Design?

In 5e the scaredest I have ever made the players was a pea soup fog filled dungeon filled with shadows. True hit and run tactics. I did a similar thing with goblins attacking from big pile of rubble they had filled with tunnels and trapdoors. It was very difficult for the PCs because the...

D&D 5E (2014) Worst Metagame Anti Player Creature Design?

This was my answer. The old school kind, not so much the 5e version. How about a magically resistant nilbog....the only way to kill it is to capture it and keep it from self harming for a couple weeks.

D&D 5E (2014) "When DMing I Avoid Making the PCs have 'pointless' combats." (a poll)

Do wizards in your game only get one set of spells from the time they leave civilization to when they return? How would you do an epic journey in that setup. I've never gotten a good answer on how GMs balance spell refreshing in games where short and long rests are stretched out to day/week.

D&D 5E (2014) "When DMing I Avoid Making the PCs have 'pointless' combats." (a poll)

In your bandit example...that is indeed an encounter....but it isn't a combat. There is a difference between the two. The poll was asking about pointless combat. I find constant and relentless random encounters harm the "realness" of most settings. If a wandering party is consistently...

D&D 5E (2014) "When DMing I Avoid Making the PCs have 'pointless' combats." (a poll)

A group of 4 level 10 characters at full strength going in a cave to rest for the night with a single black bear guarding it's den. The potential ethical argument about kicking a bear out of its den to sleep or whatever might make for an interesting situation for the players but the "roll...

D&D 5E (2014) I have never once worried about "encounters per day" when prepping D&D 5E (a poll)

You say here what I was going to. It seems like a lot of discussion I this thread is taking "I don't worry about encounter count" from a viewpoint of strict numbers per day, whereas I view it as worrying because I don't want to have non-consequential combats waste my time. This is particularly...

What if your focus was a wand you keep in a quiver?

    D&D 5E (2014) What's Your (Character's) Constitution Score?

This is true. The value would vary from 9-12 depending on how often your games feature downtime. Either way it's a number greater than 6.

I get your facts reference! I miss that t-shirt.

    D&D 5E (2014) What's Your (Character's) Constitution Score?

Since the extra HP is doubled because of Hit Die use on short rests, it's not an insubstantial amount of extra juice. A 6th level character is getting 12 extra HP over the course of the day with that extra two points of CON. For the low HP classes you might be approaching an extra 20% HP in a...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's Your (Character's) Constitution Score?

My Hill Dwarf cleric has a 20CON and the Toughness feat. He was built to stand on the front line and take hits from the monsters to give the paladin time to kill everything. I get a lot of use out of the healing spell that does damage to the caster to heal 2X the amount to another character...

D&D 5E (2014) Enemies should only attack when they have advantage (and other quick tips)

My #1 tip is that you should call a battle over once the end result is obvious. When the PCs have defeated the mind flayer and it's two ogre thralls there really isn't much need to play out the rest of the combat with the handful of minions. Switch to non-combat narrative to describe the rest...

    D&D General What's your Elevator Pitch? D&D + ??? = $$$

DnD+Good Videogame Franchise=$$$$$$$ I'm constantly baffled how the best videogame for DnD came out in the late 90s with the gold box games of the late 80s a close 2nd. Now we have a clicker game and whatever that Drizzt game was supposed to be.

D&D General Rant: Sometimes I Hate the D&D Community

I have noticed that when it comes to these real world adjascent issues there is frequently a few individuals that subscribe to the "stronger emotions means my opinion is MORE valid" technique of discourse. This type of poster usually lands on my soft ignore list for that thread as I have an...

Bands with hit singles that were not hit singles

I've got a good addition to this list. It's an odd pairing of two 90s era "popular enough" artists that merged to make a combined band that made songs that sound exactly like what you would think they would sound like. Presidents of the USA (Lump)+Sir-Mix-A-Lot (Baby Got Back) formed a...

D&D 5E (2014) When do you hide and when do you reveal DCs?

I reveal as much as possible. Some things have to remain hidden (like a DC to tell the mayor is lying gives away the mayor's lie) but things like combat DCs, most skill checks, or really anything is open to the players. In practice I may forget sometimes, but my aim is to be open about info.

What do you think of Marvel post-Endgame?

I haven't seen 1 of these movies or any of the TV shows. It's much more of a function of the creation of Disney+ (which I don't have access to) making it impossible for me to see the movies after a short delay than it is my lack of interest.

D&D 5E (2014) What House / 3rd Party / Optional Rule changed your game the most?

Each character in my game can be built with multiclassing or feats, but not both. It has brought the power level of the characters just enough that my monster palette works more in line with how I would expect it to. Far fewer curb stomps of what should be interesting battles.
