What's the WORST Star Wars movie?

I voted for 8 and 9. I didn't mind that 7 was a retelling of 4 because I recognize it needed to get a lot of younger people invested in the SW universe. Then 8 came out which I assumed was a continuation of 7 (that's how trilogies work!) But instead it was just a completely different story...

D&D 5E (2024) Should healing word require hit dice?

A vast majority of games are played at lower levels before barbarians have too much rage or spellcasters aren't affected by losing their initial concentration spell slot. Pop up healing might be the meta at your table, but it isn't strictly better. I have laid out multiple cases where it...

TTRPGs: broken mechanics vs. abusive players

Speaking of Palladium I'd say the concept of MDC is Rifts is broken. Not because it exists, but because one starting character may have them and another may not. For those unfamiliar with Rifts/MDC...it was basically a higher value version of HP. I believe it was a 1-100 or possibly 1-1000...

D&D 5E (2024) Should healing word require hit dice?

I do think the 4e method of using surges for most healing was better. It opened up a lot of design space lost when it was dropped. But I disagree withany here who say it's always better to do post KO healing instead of preemptive. Sometimes it might be, but in many situations a character...

D&D 5E (2024) Should healing word require hit dice?

As a GM of 5e I have killed a total of 7 characters. I go pretty far out of my way to avoid gratuitous combats. I certainly don't try to kill any character. But I do play my enemies as I feel they logically would act. If the party is attacked by wolves then either the wolves are defending...

    New Level-less RPG

Another level less system to check out .. Call of Cthulhu by Chaosium. It uses a D100 system where your skill score is also your base chance of success. If you have Sword 43 as your skill then a roll of 43 or less on a d100 is a success. Each time you use a skill it gets a checkmark. After...

    D&D 5E (2014) How Would You Implement Skill Deficiencies in D&D 5e?

There are some times it makes sense for every player to roll an individual skill check...but there are also times where it makes more sense to limit the party to single roll to represent a group action. Take Stealth as an example. During combat rounds, every character who wants to hide is...

D&D General The Worst Part About Leaving D&D...

It's interesting that the biggest legacy left behind from the D20 Star Wars era is the videogame Knights of the Old Republic. Just about every videogamer I talk to LOVES that game and most everyone of them had no idea it was based on a TTRPG.

D&D General The Worst Part About Leaving D&D...

The one RPG I have always felt had as much of a fandom for has been Shadowrun. It's been pretty successful at getting wider name recognition through novels, video, and board/card games and has a lot of popular online groups to join for discussion. In some ways I feel like discussion of SR is...

D&D General Keys from the Golden Vault look through.

I'm gonna side with the idea that if you named the book itself after the organization that distributes assignments in the fiction then there should be a bit more info than a single paragraph about them.

D&D 5E (2024) The Very Real Possibility and Impact of Microtransactions in One D&D

Two unrelated things here. 1. My comparison is not VTT vs videogames, it's company known for the best AAA single player video games to company known for the best TTRPG. Rockstar had a bread and butter output of super successful single player titles year after year and became HUGE for doing...

D&D 5E (2024) The Very Real Possibility and Impact of Microtransactions in One D&D

To this I say.... How did Rockstar change their focus in the 10ish years since GTA5 was released? Was it a slow buildup to the change or did it happen in the span of a couple years? If they make $10 from the VTT for every $1 they make in paper book sales....where are they going to focus their...

D&D 5E (2024) Should healing word require hit dice?

A 10th level character standing up to fight again with 5-10 HP in the tank is a 10th level character asking to die. Unless your bad guys never learn to finish off a downed opponent who keeps rising. Rule#2 is double-tap after all.

D&D 5E (2024) Should healing word require hit dice?

Someone knocked out at the very least has to spend time standing up and picking up their dropped items. If GMs actually start to enforce the rules that would make getting KOed a pain in the wazoo the players will go out of their way to avoid dead rounds....like actually healing before the KO...

D&D General Fantasy Equivalent of the Nuke

So my campaign world has uts origins in my exercise to map countless DnD humanoids to countless countries and their national characteristics in WW2. I mapped mountain dwarves to America. Slow to join the conflict, the arsenal of freedom, and having invented a wonder weapon to finish off the war...

D&D General Hot Take: Uncertainty Makes D&D Better

Still, there is at least on GM on this thread that doesn't always and perhaps never uses it. They gave example of how they narrate not-quite-there misses as more pleasant but still fail state results. I think many GMs on this board haven't adjusted their style to incorporate modern RPG...

D&D General Hot Take: Uncertainty Makes D&D Better

It's seems, like many other threads, that we are in the territory of arguing semantics as opposed to a concept. Many GMs and players view 5e to be a pass/fail design. If one has to make a DC10 check to open a lock then many GMs are going to narrate a 9 as "you didn't open the lock". In other...

    D&D 5E (2014) Playing non-healer clerics

Since a few posts ago you agreed that certain cleric character concepts are acceptable to be played without the expectation of casting healing spells then I'm not sure there is any disagreement on this thread. That's exactly what myself as well as several other posters have been trying to point...

    D&D 5E (2014) Playing non-healer clerics

Equally... telling a player during session zero "You are not allowed to have a cleric who doesn't cast healing spells" is uncooperative.
