NookColor - Is this the future of Ebooks for Gaming?

Multitasking on an iPad is great. I can't say how great, I'm under an NDA. But just imagine unicorns flying through the skies on rainbows. But even without it, there's a lot of value in having a color eBook reader. The Pathfinder book is BIG. The full set of 4e books are BIG. Swapping a...

Has your XBox 360 died ?

I got a RROD. It took a couple years from when I bought the device since I don't play nightly, but it happened. I have to say, although it took MS a while to publicly acknowledge the problem, I'm happy with the way they've handled it since then. It was a fairly simple process to get my device...

Pathfinder 1E If Paizo can, why can't Wizards of the Coast?

Well, they could make new things rather than presuming that all they can do is rehash rules for one edition or another. This is much harder if the focus is on rules rather than setting or stories.

How to convince my players to give 2e a try?

I've done this very successfully with my extended group of players. I've played a 1e Tomb of Horrors run and a two year BECMI campaign. The first thing to do is pitch it to them and be enthusiastic! "This is a classic scenario and we should play it the way it came about!" Dark Sun is one of...

Metaplots - it wasn't just TSR that did them

I'd say a good metaplot (from the player's perspective) is one that lets the PCs make world-changing decisions and shape the future across multiple adventures. A bad metaplot is one that makes all those world-changing decisions on the part of the players. They may be involved in the...

Pathfinder 1E If Paizo can, why can't Wizards of the Coast?

I think part of it is the shift in sales from setting and adventures to rules. When someone has bought a lot of setting materials a new edition of the rules may change the mechanics but everything they bought can still work. If most of what is being sold is rules, they aren't as easy to adapt...

    What's up with Dundjinni?!!

Good news! The forums are back. When I tried, the store still appeared to be empty, though.

Any Good Dungeon Mappers Out There?

I'd be very worried about Dundjinni, since their store and forums have been down for about a month as a result of a "server migration". Their art packs looked interesting to me since you can use them with any program, I think. I personally like to use a vector graphics program for maps...

    Cartography Programs?

The best place for cartography questions is The Cartographer's Guild. They've got forums where folks talk about which programs they like and why. A lot of it will depend on how much time you want to put into mapping, and what your style of working is like.

I think TSR was right to publish so much material

True. On the other hand, in that time I bought all the Mystara stuff that came out. I buy almost none of the stuff WotC puts out now. Their production costs are lower, but their potential customer base might be as well.

    FUDGE Dice shortages (Dresden Files)

Why are they only available from one vendor? I'd think that Chessex, Koplow, etc could make them as well.

Lax editing standards as long as updates are free?

Bad editing just plain bugs me. It annoys me and makes me less likely to want to have anything to do with the product. A typo in a product is understandable, but when I'm running across a bunch in a single product, I get really annoyed and write off the publisher. I am capable of reading past...

males playing females and the other way around, opinions?

This makes me think that it would be really fun to DM a game where there just are no women NPCs. They just don't exist. The characters are whatever gender the players are. I have both men and women in the group, and they usually play their own gender. So I wonder how long it would take for...

Are you D&D edition agnostic when looking for pre-published adventures?

I DM Rules Cyclopedia D&D. It's pretty easy to convert just about anything into it, so I hoard adventures from all editions to use with it. For instance, I picked up a copy of Necropolis since I could easily fit the story into Nithia. A nice thing about RCD&D is that stat blocks are so small...

    iTouch Apps

It does, but it's not obvious. Shake the Touch and a dialog will come up asking if you want to undo. (And if you have previously undone, it'll ask if you want to undo again or redo.) I don't know about Tab, but you can enable Caps Lock from Settings->General->Keyboard->Enable Caps Lock...

Is the Premium Store Thing Working?

I feel out of the loop. I didn't know anything about premium stores. As it is, there is little that could get me into a LGS and a 4e book isn't on the list. If stuff is in DDI I don't need the book right away and if it isn't I am not going to use it until it is.

    Books With "Tear-Out" Maps

It's a lot easier than it used to be. Nowadays I just scan the page and print as needed, since the quality has finally caught up.

Screenshot in newsletter 56 too wide

had some problems reading this newsletter, since the gamers-seeking-gamers screenshot was wider than my monitor. It caused wordwrap to fail. In general, screenshots for demo purposes should be smaller. I don't know what your demographics are like, but we try to keep them to 1024x768 at max...

    Old Bluetooth, New Bluetooth...

The iPod Touch doesn't support Bluetooth file transfer. Curses! The best chance would be to sync the files from the Palm to a computer, and import them into the iPod Touch.

    Subscription levels dropping

There was the month of June which had no subscriber content. I didn't cancel, but I wondered if the content had ended. July has had a good amount of content and isn't over yet, making up for it. It might be a good idea to plan on spreading things out more.
