Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

They're definitely a branch. But since I enjoy comparing editions and this thread loves tangents, I'll continue comparing them. Cosmology and lore are a huge way the Basic D&D lines differ from the AD&D lines. The outer planes are different. Otiluke and Bigby never made an appearance. But...

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

My point was that you said that every other edition used the Great Wheel, which is wrong.

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

While AD&D used the great wheel, and D&D 3 used it, original D&D did not have it. It was added in an article in Dragon 8. Neither Moldvay/Holmes nor Mentzer D&D had it, although they had similar inner planes. The Great Wheel is really a construct of the AD&D alignment system. If you diverge...

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

Incidentally, in Mystara, the halflings did have a limited anti-magic ability (called denial), which made sense given their saves. It seems to me that it may be that people have fewer problems with "natural" creatures that exist in the Prime Material plane having a lot of variation, but that...

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

Halflings and gnomes, in particular, have been wildly reinterpreted in different settings and editions. Is that as problematic for you?

    3G: Dungeons & Stereotypes

I used to pace out my soy sauce packets because they only penetrated about an inch deep into one of those boxes. It got a lot better when we moved out of the dorms and didn't need to wash dishes in the bathroom or half the dorm away in the one kitchen they put in.

    3G: Dungeons & Stereotypes

I can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet. My friends and I did this all the time when we were in college! Either we didn't have enough plates and stuff or didn't want to wash them.

    Tablets Tablets Tablets!

Out of curiosity, what did you find counter-intuitive? I'm a mobile developer, so I'm always interested in people's experiences.

Planescape Do You Care About Planescape Lore?

FWIW, to me "Outlands" would seem outer, not something stuck in the middle of so many extremes. Concordant Opposition does it for me.

Considering a campaign idea off something from the Koran

The player characters are insane cultists of lolth who have realized that the mushrooms of the underdark have never sworn allegiance. And therefore they must cut the heads off all mushrooms who will not convert. The twist is that the head of their order just wants to make a good stew.

We are being laughed at. A ranty article purely for debating purposes.

Yes. If you want realistic portrayals of people, you need to go to at least a dramedy. Sitcoms stereotype and asking them not to is like asking reality tv to have redeeming value. This topic has nothing to do with tabletop gaming, btw, and should be moved to Misc. Geek.

Help me save gaming at my FLGS - difficult situation

Operating hours aren't arbitrary. There's a very real cost in terms of staff and utilities, especially if the extra time means you need to staff an extra shift or pay overtime. There might also be local laws limiting the hours businesses of certain types can be open. It sounds like the folks...

Help me save gaming at my FLGS - difficult situation

Private businesses are free to ban people from entering in most countries, unless the reason for their ban is in a certain set of protected classes.

    What Is This?

Eye of Exact Enumeration Dragons are renowned for being able to detect the slightest loss from their horde in a glance. Many is the thief who thought "With all these riches, surely this small bauble would not be missed!" This belt, crafted from a dragon's eye, is used to inventory and manage...

Kickstarter How does a Kickstarter Bleed Money?

The original kickstarter projects, and a lot of smaller more local projects, are exactly like that. The idea was to help contribute to something you wanted to see in the world, such as an art or music project. The backer rewards were just a side benefit. The design and game categories are...

    Gamehackery: The Facebook Effect

I do have clean email, but very dirty facebook feed. My family's the cause of most of the junk. I find it a whole lot easier to miss stuff on Facebook than email. And my opinion does matter. If I find Facebook to be time consuming and a hassle to engage with, and I have people in my group who...

    Google killing Google Reader

Ars Technica has been covering this and is currently running a poll on options. There are a lot of us that are upset. (Apparently not enough to matter, though.) All the web-based alternatives are currently down due to the load of folks checking them out. I'm thinking it'll be time to check...

    Spreading the Cant

The cant is definitely one of the most polarizing things I've seen in D&D. The folks that love it really, really love it. The folks that hate is want it eradicated from the universe. I'm afraid I'm one of the latter.
