    Discussing 4e Subsystems: Conditions

The Conditions aspect of 4e is the one (and perhaps the 'only') part of 4e that all of my players agree has been markedly improved. Even my 3e spellcaster grognards nod their heads with respect to 4e Conditions. The problem, in my opinion (since it's illegal to make a post without having...

How Many Beers per Gaming Session?

For me, the typical session doesn't have any alcohol. We have a couple underage gamers (in the U.S.), and it's just never been an issue. So my answer is 'None'. That said, I do get together (all too infrequently) with older friends of years past, and these are more 'events' than 'sessions'...

How Many Beers per Gaming Session?

I know some folks and some groups do not drink at all, and others treat game night as a "beer & pretzels" type atmosphere. AFAIC, there's no right or wrong answer here. Just curious if imbibing a few drinks is the norm or not. Ergo, a poll. The question: How many alcoholic drinks does an...

Not much interest in the Draconomicon?

To be honest, I have no idea how these books (3e or 4e) sell any copies whatsoever. The utility of such books around the table is, I would think, very limited. There are better options if one is looking for leisurely reading. So, no - not interest in Draconomicon. Not in the old version of...

Astral Dreadnought has kind of a fatal flaw?

[off-topic] Simplicity, you have a quote out there someone is using as a sig wherein you were discussing poor module writing. You had a paragraph of a group of men that "were not making apple pies" or something like that. Just want to say...that. was. awesome. Very creative.[/off-topic]

Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

Don't blame The People. And don't blame The Man. This need for some sort of permission stems from the fact that 3E had morphed the collective soul of gaming into a "there must be a rule somewhere for that and i must follow it" mantra. Ostensibly, the Power was taken away from the DM and...

Ahhh, awesome. Thanks RW. Great quote.

Off-Topic: Iron Sky, where is that quote in your sig from? The quote about men not dallying to the west. /Off-topic.

The best Power in MP is....Warlord Utility 6 Power.

Ah, yes, you guys are correct. So it's three actions (not four) before the dragon gets to go. Note - I don't think this power is broken; I think it's pretty cool. I thought the warlord needed some lovin' and it looks like he's getting some in MP.

For posterity's sake, here's the Power in question: Guileful Switch You spring a trap on your opponents, surprising them with your clever stratagem. Encounter * Martial Minor Action Personal Effect: You and one ally you can see switch places in the initiative order. Your turn ends when you...

Let's look at an example combat with Mike and Joe as the two PCs. They're about to fight a Dragon. Init: Mike: 20. Joe: 17. Dragon: 16. Mike goes first. He moves forward, attacks with some daily, then uses a minor to do something else. Joe's turn. He moves forward, attacks with some daily...

The new 4E PDF's odd changes... [Tues PM: problem fixed]

If true, that is indeed bad form on WotC. Can't you just use the Snapshot tool in Adobe to get your power cards?

Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

While I agree with your criticism, I think licensing aspects prevent that from being an option. Those non-core are not "touchable", per se. Note, I've been using the word "license" a lot in my last few posts and I don't know dickey about licensing. Just FYI.

Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

I think there are three markets out there right now, two of which are being targeted by companies. You've got your 4e crowd and that's WotC's target audience. You've got your 3e crowd and that's PF's (and T20's) target audience. But you also have another audience out there that doesn't like...

Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

So do it Wulf. Seriously, you're a designer. Pathfinder - for whatever reasons - is not going this route. You can. Your Grim Tales could be updated and avoid the anchor of having the remain backwards compatible with a fundamentally flawed system. I think. I don't know the licensing issues...

4E being immune to criticism (forked from Sentimentality And D&D...)

Who cares about the quote? I know us gamers are known for being overly sensitive and righteous types, but hasn't this gone a bit too far? If Bob says he didn't like 3E and has made a game he likes, then good for Bob. If Bob happened to be a 3E designer and a 4E designer, then maybe that's a way...

Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

WotC, for one. Note the "playtest" material we are now seeing via DDI. I think they took a page out of Paizo's book on that (and it was a good page to take, despite some folks that don't like paying for a beta - both DDI and PF Beta). I have faith in Paizo as well. But let's not pull out the...
