Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

Thanks. That's...well, that's awesome. I think you guys have a very, very hard hurdle to jump, but I'm interested as hell to see if you can make it work. WP

Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

I don't suppose I'm reading too much into this (with a ton of wishful thinking) when I ask whether that "Dungeon Magazine Adventure Path" comment means Paizo may be taking Dungeon back? (I ask since the Dungeon APs existed prior to PF seeing the light of day.) Also, James, if you care to...

4E being immune to criticism (forked from Sentimentality And D&D...)

Oh, I know. The point remains. My edition of "old school" D&D had those things, because the one I associate with as my edition had them. That is to say, AD&D with UA was pretty much what I played most of the time back in the day. WP

Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

Agreed. I read that whole feat list last week (there are a lot of them!) and liked most/all of what I saw. The crafting magic items without having to be a spellcaster was one of those "dang! why didn't someone think of this earlier?!" type moments. Very cool. WP

Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

I'll tell you this: Here's a guy who really is enjoying 4E that would nonetheless consider the switch to PF if they are able to fix just #5 of that list. I've had too many 3E campaigns peter out and die once we hit mid- to high-levels due to the downward spiral of the fun factor. Unfortunately...

4E being immune to criticism (forked from Sentimentality And D&D...)

While the tone leaves something to be desired, Rounser, I don't disagree with your points. Count me as another guy who would have preferred the cosmology adhere more to the same in previous editions, and would have liked half-orcs, gnomes, monks, and barbarians over warlords, eladrin, tieflings...

Save my Game: Do the Right Thing.

Superb article. Seems to be very much in line with the "new theme" going around WotC. I will say this, however: This new theme of "say yes" and "have fun" has not been without its issues at my gaming table. We (myself and my players) are still pulling ourselves out of a RAW mindset. I remember...

Dragon 369 - Io'vanthor: Lost City of the Dragonborn

Great article, horrible map. No offense against the artist - who I'm sure can and has done much better work - but how does that "map" serve as any help to game play? It's cartoonish and seems an afterthought. I'm still waiting for the great tagged and untagged maps that, IMO, should be included...

4E being immune to criticism (forked from Sentimentality And D&D...)

For a while, I agree. But at a point 'discussion' (which I'll define as rationale discourse) segues into something...less beneficial. For anyone involved, in any game, of any edition, on any forum. I stand corrected; that's a good reason and rationale. WP

4E being immune to criticism (forked from Sentimentality And D&D...)

It'll never happen, and the forums will continue to have the "stuff" they've been displaying for months and months, if not years. Sure, it'll die down - but you'll always have a group (call them 'loyal' or call them 'nuts' or call them whatever you'd like to call such people) that will continue...

Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

Fixing 3E without making it a new game is a Herculean, if not impossible, effort. That said, I think Paizo is going about it the right way. I feel comfortable stating unequivocally that no other RPG company listens to their fans and respects their opinions as much as Paizo does. Proof is in the...

4E being immune to criticism (forked from Sentimentality And D&D...)

Concur. I cut my teeth on 1E many, many moons ago and - as far as the sentimental aspects go - 1E is where it's at for me. I think the thing I like most about 4E is that it's more like 1E. I bet you can find a lot of people that started with 2E and find that as their favorite edition. And the...

AICN Reviews the DDI Character Builder!

Was it "gushingly positive"? Yep. Was it from a writer who previously said positive things about 4e? Yep. Was the review accurate? Yep. Ad hominem and all that. Separate the dang review from the reviewer, and sift through the bias to see the facts (Americans should be good at that...

Was there a real need for a fourth ed.? Or would tweaking 3.5 have done it for you?

True. This is exacerbated when against a Solo creature (tons of hit points). I still think overall length, on average, is shorter for 4e than 3e but not significantly so. I think it just "seems" shorter because guys are getting to act much more often. Yeah. Um. Well, it's not that fast. :) I...

Was there a real need for a fourth ed.? Or would tweaking 3.5 have done it for you?

Good points. What I meant was that we fly around the table taking turns (i.e., each PCs turn comes up much more quickly), but the overall real time requirement of an encounter is probably only a 10-20% improvement or the time requirement for a 3.5E round. This is due, of course, to the fact...

Was there a real need for a fourth ed.? Or would tweaking 3.5 have done it for you?

[off-topic] I agree with you, David, on the things I wanted to see in 4e. I also agree that the "options & fluff" isn't there, but I really think the "speed of 1E" is. While I understand every group is different, we fly around the table during combat in 4e. I have 7 PCs, sometimes 8 PCs, and...
