Got into MMO's from Tabletop Gaming?

Both my wife and I play World of Warcraft because we play D&D. Leaving out the part where I played offline CRPGs like Planescape: Torment because of D&D, it went like this: when my wife and I first dated, I introduced her to roleplaying games. She ended up in a game run by a friend of hers...

    Dragon 365 - Artificer

The Third Edition artificer's infusions were just as much variant spells, so . . . since it was a fun class . . . I don't see the issue. You want a gadgeteer who can do anything he knows how to do all the time. Fine. But that's not the artificer, and it ain't gonna be.

    Star Wars Saga.5 Edition

Why on Earth would you make a back-handed slap at the World of Darkness in this connection? Those games are famous for having more focus on story and less on mechanics compared to the (then) mainstream.

Players really want the Necromancer? (Forked: Non-published concepts you want)

I once came up with a setting where necromancy was the most common form of arcane magic (thanks to certain quirks in the landscape that were unexplained, even by me). Most civilised necromancers had their undead servants go masked or robed in public, to avoid upsetting the common citizenry.

    DM and/or player?

I have recently started DMing regularly. Right now, I play in one game (GURPS modern action-horror) and run another (Pathfinder Rise of the Runelords adventure path, converted last night to Fourth Edition). Another game I'm playing in will start up soon, and I'm planning to run an Eberron Fourth...

    Dragon 365 - Artificer

It's called out as a class feature. The "short rest" action type denotes the fact that you spend some time preparing an item to have a semi-permanent effect. It is new, but I think only good luck charm (utility 16) and hero's elixir (utility 22) have that action type.

What Campaign Settings will you purchase?

I voted for Eberron, Dark Sun, Planescape, and Ravenloft. Eberron is my favourite Third Edition setting, and one of my two favourite D&D settings ever. Planescape is the other. Ravenloft is always a lot of fun. Dark Sun is more appealing to me now that I can use Fourth Edition for it than it...

Players really want the Necromancer? (Forked: Non-published concepts you want)

The first Third Edition game I ever played was an evil-slanted campaign. A slight majority of the PCs had an evil alignment; the rest of us were neutral. There was one who wavered from lawful evil to lawful neutral and back, as the result of events in the campaign, but otherwise I'm pretty sure...

I'm a huge fan of immersive RPing. How about you?

I think the term "immersive roleplaying" is problematic here, because I do all of the things you're talking about without ever "immersing" myself in my character. I'm capable of making the decisions the character would make, without regard for my advantage or disadvantage as a player, without...

    Dragon 365 Table of Contents

I'm really looking forward to seeing the artificer. I'm also eager to read Keith's "Expeditionary Dispatches" article, the "Codex of Betrayal", "Design and Development" about monster design, and "Roll vs. Role" about the snaketongue.

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

Or maybe you could just get over having a problem with the idea that other people like things you don't. Some of us manage that before we're thirty-four years old.

Racially diverse artwork in D&D...does it influence you?

I don't believe the Dungeons & Dragons settings published these days are or should be quasi-medieval. Let me ask you this: do you require players who want to play a blond or redheaded character in a D&D analogue of medieval England to "justify" why someone with such an egregiously non-native...

Is a popular non-D&D traditional fantasy RPG possible?

Yeah, Crothian is right. The number-one thing you need is a good game. The number-two thing you need is a good game that has a point beyond being, frankly, a more traditional version of D&D, because ain't nothing stopping you from running a traditional fantasy game with D&D.

Racially diverse artwork in D&D...does it influence you?

Wikipedia claims Morien was the son of one of the Knights of the Round Table, Aglovale, who fathered him with a black Christian princess in Moorish lands.

Is a popular non-D&D traditional fantasy RPG possible?

Survive? Sure. Thrive, even. Carve a chunk out of D&D's market share? Unlikely.

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

Honestly, I am genuinely surprised that even the oldest grognard believes that new players are going to come to the table looking for a wholly Tolkienesque world, or being upset when they learn that there might be dragonborn or tieflings in the game.
