Forgotten Realms Books to Have Several Digital DLCs, Including One Featuring Asterion

D&D 5E (2024) Next issue of Game Informer will have details on the two upcoming Forgotten Realms books

I can't seem to find any info on this, so apologies if its been covered. Did they discuss what new species we're getting? I would imagine Duergar, sea elf, and genasi would be good includes.

D&D General D&D Releases New Japanese Campaign 'Oni’s Right Hand'

Wu-Jen has no origin. It is a literal translation of "magic + user" using Chinese, and is vaguely based on different sorcerers in Asian myth.

D&D General D&D Releases New Japanese Campaign 'Oni’s Right Hand'

I think it's important to remember that this isn't WotC proper making revised Kara Tur book. This is the regional distributor selling the current 5e books in Japanese and wanting to add a touch of regional flavor to sell the PHB and The Shattered Obelisk. This is advertising. If it's popular and...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

The fact that most people will hate on actual art made by people claiming it's AI only convinces me that in five years when all art is AI, we will never tell the difference.

D&D General D&D Releases New Japanese Campaign 'Oni’s Right Hand'

Listen: WotC doing some regional material tied to Japanese culture and even mentioning Kara Tur still exists isn't nearly as important as repeatedly attacking WotC for removing the two species with "half -x" in their name until they can find a better way to address them. I hope the sarcasm...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

It's probably based on a real safari pic. The dragons legs are dangling naturally for a dead animal, but the wings are tensed rather than hanging limp. I wager Elmore used a real image of a trophy kill to recreate the dragon but had to wing it (pun intended) on the wings and opted for simple...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

I'm mocking it because the person was complaining how the the Forgotten Realms cover was a staged photo composition. There was "no drama, no action" and I responded with a LITERAL posed picture; an image reminiscent of a hunting safari image (which I'm sure Elmore used as a reference, replace...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

It was the inner cover (after to ToC). Literally the first picture IN THE PHB after the cover. They are posed like a photograph. There is no action. No sense of danger. They just killed a dragon no bigger than a black bear and posed like a hunting photo. It couldn't be more posed if they were...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

The issue was that (as I said) it was a mile wide and an inch deep. It didn't give me enough info to actually sell me on Icewind Dale or Cormyr or the Moonshaes. I know a lot of people criticize the focus on the Sword Coast for 5e's run, but it got enough detail that I actually got a feel for...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

4e Forgotten Realms books says "what am I, a joke to you?!" (Actually don't answer that.) I have a confession to make: I'm not a big fan of the 3e FRCS. It's a mile wide and an inch deep. It's horrible to navigate without the index, gives enough info on an area to be encompassing, but not...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

Which is why I was putting the blame squarely on the Internet and the fact that conflict fuels engagement far greater (either naturally or algorithmically) than positivity. It's the reverse of attracting more flys with vinegar than honey.

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

It's a frame issue. I'm not wildly excited about the cover, but it's kinda tiring that the same group of people always finds a way to find the worst thing to say about every action the franchise does. Does matter if it's D&D or something else. Which is why I say it's an Internet thing: the echo...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

I see you cover and raise you this. A floating head, a photoshopped Drizzt from a different cover and a third person* posing on an overlook. No motion, muted colors, three portraits overlaid over each other. Nothing here excites the imagination. Hell, nothing here even explains what the tone...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

WotCs could place crisp $20 bills in the back of each book and people would complain it's not a $50. Then again, I'm increasingly convinced fandom is a net negative for any given franchise. I've yet to meet a a fandom that isn't overwhelmingly critical of the thing they claim to enjoy. Things...

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

All I see is a portrait filter and oversaturated colors. Honestly, D&D covers have been crap for 40 years. 1e was rank amateur. 2e was painfully generic. 3e boring. 4e was bad comic book art and 5e looks like Magic cards. It's a good thing I buy the books for their content and not their covers.
