    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Honestly I feel like the ideal would be almost all spells (or the vast majority) being unique to each class (albeit Sorcerer and Wizard should be the same class imho, just make one a subclass of the other). I know D&D has either never done that really (except 4E) and it doesn't really work with...

    Spoilers King & Conquerer

Yeah I'd ignored it on those grounds and casting Norton as a lead (also I mistakenly assumed he was playing William, glad to see he isn't) who chewed the scenery so ferociously in the later seasons of Happy Valley that for my money he completely annihilated any suspension of disbelief I could...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Omg I didn't realise he was such a renaissance man lol. Gotta stop underestimating how many pies he can get fingers in at once!

    Star Wars: Starfighter

That's quite a cast also Simon Bird in Star Wars movie amazing lol. Long way from The Inbetweeners and Friday Night Dinner (the latter of which was so accurate to so many people I went to school with and their parents it was uncanny).

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

EIther way it's a serious problem and a WotC problem because that's a totally abnormal way for a book to be made, and frankly, not very plausible, because layout has to be done after text and art and then after that the book will be looked at by several people before it goes to print. This isn't...

But it is in a lot of magic-centric fantasy. The hard outer limits might not always be defined but there's often a clear rationale, things it can never do, things it's good at or bad at and so on. This isn't just modern either - it's true in A Wizard of Earthsea, for example. But in modern...

That's a total non-explanation. Just a dodge and nothing else. Totally empty of any meaning. You'd have to describe the force in some detail and put limits on it to make it have meaning.

Yes. And I do also. If it comes up, which it usually doesn't, but can. Depends on the setting and origin of "all the monsters", but they're not generally fans of "how could that possibly live down here?" dungeons for example. In a lot of cases it doesn't come up, but it has come up at times.

Oooof that's not great. Very interesting but not great! Especially as the Ottoman Empire... doesn't come from the middle east, it comes from Anatolia! Also its culture is really distinct from most of the major actual middle-eastern cultures of the medieval and renaissance era (despite ruling...

Well put yeah that is what it comes down to. Re changes, I don't think any removal or class/race/spell/etc change has caused me to stop playing D&D. All the stuff that's been bad enough to cause me to stop has been either stuff that seemed superficially good or interesting, or was a mechanical...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

If they can turn Baldurs Gate into an Ankh-Morpork/Lankhmar vibe I will genuinely be impressed. If they can also handle Calimshan well and playable and avoid face palm levels of twee with the Moonshaes this might be genuinely the best thing that happened to the FR in 20+ years, maybe 30. Would...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I suspect our differences on this would be less than you perhaps assume. I am not endorsing the position lol. Also you could perhaps rephrase "very bad" to "at all bad" lol

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Yes that does seem sadly unlikely. I suspect we won't see "Celtic" areas get better treatment until Celtomania inevitably comes around again in a decade or three (the last visit being the late 1980s and early 1990s). Re: Calimshan that is good to hear, it was always a strange confused...

Oh wow they're going for it huh? Damn lol. I don't hate the idea but god the levels of twee may be Chernobyl-like! Calimshan is good to see as it often gets vagued pretty hard but is theoretically very important to the Realms.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Whilst I am sure your size comparisons are correct I would suggest that Dark Sun, as a setting, is more detailed and complex than those five regions typically are in the FR. The last time we got real turbo detail on them was what, 2E? The actual size doesn't really inherently matter, I would...

Tomb of Annihilation as well! What a menace lol! It's not impossible with De Armas and Armin I agree. They might be able to handle it and even keep slavery (hopefully steering hard away from US South vibes more towards Roman vibes). But it is a bit believe it when I see it! Edit - Ironically I...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Editorial decisions in fiction are not censorship, especially not when they run against the government of the era in the relevant country. On a simple factual level, with no judgement, the current US government doesn't disapprove of mentioning slavery. It disapproves of saying it is a very bad...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Sorry but that's not accurate. It was WotC's D&D team at the time, some of whom are still there. The minimum people involved are the person who wrote the race details, the person who approved them, the person who did the minstrel art pieces and the art director, as well as whoever did the...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Goliaths are more established and popular in D&D and are the only real "big guy" trope race D&D has managed to popularize across settings (dragonborn failing to hit that trope and landing on honourable warrior race and beast people spaces instead), which is a trope a lot of players are looking...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I think you're being very optimistic re: 2-3 year playtest. That would be ideal but with 4E and 5E it was a lot shorter than that and as that seems to have happened with all WotC editions I suspect it will be more like 6-12 months. Agree re: if we haven't heard. That said even if 2024 does well...
