    Digital Insider #13

Yes, the auto-renew thing is a pain. It's also utterly unsurprising given subscription features on the internet in general. Would that this were not the case, but for SOME REASON there's not much of a profit motive to fix these things and never do them again. I provided a suggestion for what...

    Digital Insider #13

This isn't really a meaningful problem. I mean, not only because of piracy - though there will be pirate copies floating around and as a non-physical product there's not going to be a difference, but they also said Customer Service could help you with that, so I'm pretty sure you could get your...

Monster Manual Rituals and D&D Compendium

Interesting. This makes the second time they've done something like this, the first being Vecna's Wrathful Eye and Vecna's Subjugating Claw, which were Wizard powers listed as being from "H2 Thunderspire Labyrinth" despite that they were not. ...and checking again, those two powers are now...

Presentation of the 4E Forgotten Realms (and other settings)

Sure, if you think having campaign settings act at least partially as generic splatbooks is a virtue. The Player's Guide contained plenty of information I'd rather have been in the Campaign Guide, though - the Player's Guide descriptions of countries containing information the Campaign Guide...

Forked Thread: Did 4e go far enough or to far?

I did mean that, but looking into things it's not really a supported statement. For some reason I thought the boss of Trollhaunt swapped between Elite and Solo between the times you met him, but he doesn't. The only one who I can find who does is the boss of Pyramid of Shadows, and his stint as...

Forked Thread: Did 4e go far enough or to far?

Well, I wasn't bringing the whole monster manual thing into it, because I see the argument there. I was pointing out that the published 4e adventures present situations in which stats would actually be useful but aren't provided at all, too - though being as how Sea Reavers is one of my least...

Forked Thread: Did 4e go far enough or to far?

4e also semi-staunchly avoids presenting statistics for things that the PCs are not supposed to murder, including allied NPCs they're supposed to be protecting from assassins who are actively in the room with the PCs during the battle against said assassins. (c.f. Sea Reavers of the Shrouded...

Forked Thread: Did 4e go far enough or to far?

Actually, no. I meant what I said - if you have a gold and red dragon fighting off-screen that the PCs had a vested interested in, a lot of 3e players would expect that, if you didn't play it out (which wasn't necessary), you'd base the results of the combat on the two monsters' statistics. 4e...

Forked Thread: Did 4e go far enough or to far?

Some people look at how the varying super beings in 3e were statted and would object if Asmodeus tooled Kurtulmak in a straight-up fight off-screen because this could never possibly happen on-screen if their stats were used. In other words, in 3e, it was generally assumed that stats were...

Where 3E and 4E players stand in the great 3E disputes

Awesome. My games always feature both psionic PCs and psionic foes. One of the best things that ever happened. Introduced plenty of neat moves for fighter-types. 3e's Fighter class is the worst incarnation of Fighter in D&D ever, seriously. It's still useful for dips for feats, or for things...

    Discussing 4e Subsystems: Retraining

The "problem", such as it is, is when people are playing Carl the Climber and, hearing that the next adventure is going to be urban, immediately retrain Climbing to Streetwise, then as soon as it ends retrain it back to Climbing.

Forked Thread: Did 4e go far enough or to far?

Well, it's not if you want to sell a lot of books. It's a bit of an albatross around your neck if you want to use it to sell a lot of books but at the same time you think directly competing with the World of Darkness would be a better idea.

Martial Powers Excerpt - The Feral Spirit

They do denote a power source, but I mean, one of the Ranger paragon paths from the corebook is basically surrounded by an aura of crackling "martial" lightning.

    Discussing 4e Subsystems: Retraining

I'm generally 100% okay with 4e's retraining. Hell, in 3e I let people rewrite their character sheets any time they wanted as long as they didn't do anything stupid or do it all the time, just as long as they kept playing the same character in a story sense. This is because these games have a...

Spells in Three Dimensions, Looking for some DM Rulings

I dunno, it seems pretty clear that CS meant to say "there is no Z axis in 4e D&D" flat-out.

Mounted Enemies; how should they be ran?

The DMG also says this only applies to PCs riding mounts that they own. Monsters or PCs riding major NPCs get their full actions and the mount's full actions.

    Collected Core Handbook Errata

Yeah, but every single other construct is immune to disease and poison, except for warforged, which are explicitly living constructs and have a weird and involved explanation of why they are not. So as it stands, you can't poison arcane stone golems, but you can poison divine stone golems.

    Collected Core Handbook Errata

Since it's a point of hilarity with my group, Eidolons, despite being statues, aren't immune to poison. We wrote in to CustServ and received the reply that this was an intentional omission (!) but with no explanation, and on a reply question of "...why?" we were told that it was being referred...

    Potentially stupid GSL question

    To Scott and Linae

Perhaps Orcus is just by necessity unusually quick at running things by his lawyers, but I've noticed a good deal of dissatisfaction since the first posting of the license by people who I *know* ran or worked for third-party publishers in the 3e era. There are a bunch of questions (mostly with...
