Take Two: Testing The Correlation Between Class Preference And 4E Love/Hate

...um, a poll that is constructed with the intent of showing a specific result is a bad poll. You have to be open to having your thesis disproven, too. Back on topic, I'm putting myself as preferring spellcasters and 3e, though for me it's correlation, not causation. ;)

How to kill a blue dragon?

Remember that by CustServ's (kinda dumb) ruling, anything that affects a square has infinite height, so Scorching Burst and Cloud of Daggers can still hit it out of the air. Not sure if there's much in the way of bursts or blasts for Clerics or Fighters at that level, though.

    Cynicism of an AD&D refugee

You'd be surprised. O -> 1e -> 2e all had quite a lot in common with each other, and while 3e basically threw out the rule system to start over, it adhered tightly to 2e's game world.

Word of Mearls: Official Player races will not get Oversized Weapons. Forked Thread

Well, at least the Stealth errata wasn't stealth errata.

Anyone have the new Quintessential Wizard?

Not sure about regaining encounter powers off the top of my head, but for daily powers there's Veteran's Armor from the AV, which as a daily power lets you regain a daily power at the cost of a free action and an action point.

    Disappointed in 4e

While I'm too lazy to go dig out a link to the post, RPG.net's Old Geezer - someone who is notable for having been in the late Gary Gygax's gaming group - once related that hit points were originally just a measure of how long people could stay in the fight. They'd tried a few other things and...

    Cynicism of an AD&D refugee

So, here's what I mean by not complete. With 3e, when it came out, there were certainly things from 2e not included in the core three 3e books, but there was very to which the designers actively responded "we will be putting this in a later book". If I had to go off the top of my head, I'd...

    Draconomicon Excerpt: Heart of Darkness

While in 4e, HP represents other things than just physical damage, I am inclined to say 233 damage is not a psychological problem. :P

    Cynicism of an AD&D refugee

A lot of the Basic line was complete in one book or boxed set, of course.

    Draconomicon Excerpt: Heart of Darkness

Well, I'll say this. I thought the Brown Dragon sucked - it was 3.5e's Sand Dragon, only now they're all CHEFAGON, THE GOURMET CHEF DRAGON. Which makes them entirely useful for one encounter ever, because it makes them an entire race of one really annoying NPC basically. Which, well, even given...

    Deadliest fighter build

I always had a thing for the dual-wielding Fighter with weapons of Speed in 2e. Get Improved Haste cast on you and you'll have between 7 to 9 attacks per round... at your full attack bonus, to use the 3e term. And since AC whores are much less viable in 2e than in 3e, you'll hit with most all of...

So I have the Martial Powers book.

Bagpuss got his directly from WotC due to special circumstances, too, rather than some sort of early order. The only tried-and-true method I know of for getting early releases of books is to attend conventions, really, and even then only for some companies. Like White Wolf.

    Previews: November and Beyond

Huh. I must have chalked that up to the fluff-light presentation of the 4e books more than it being officially removed, since I never even noticed that it wasn't mentioned in the actual Player's Handbook.

Anyone have the new Quintessential Wizard?

Perhaps, though also they might be doing it to encourage sales of the physical book - which, you know, they had to sink money into doing an entire print run of, and which costs more - too.

    Previews: November and Beyond

This was markedly not true of Eberron's cosmology during 3e. I'm not sure whether it'd pick up the 4e cosmology or not, since all of the Eberron planes are basically reskinned planes of the old cosmology, but the Far Realm and the Plane of Dreams are the main planes of importance (or, uh, bad...

Forked Thread: Disappointed in 4e; 4e upgrade or new game??

A disclaimer: I've played Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, but not Fallout 3. I wasn't commenting on its goodness or lack thereof, but... well, they're strictly turn-based systems with a real-time non-combat mode attached. Fallout 3's a first-person shooter with a pseudo-turn-based and...

Those are called Waraxes from the Adventurer's Vault. (and oversized Waraxes are worthless, so you're not really even losing anything there)

What class are you least likely to play in 4e?

    I don't play rogues.

    From 1st to Maximum Level

There wasn't a maximum level in 2e, but my friends and I got characters of ungodly level back when we played that. Something like 30+ for all of us. In 3e, no, but I played from 3 to 28 in one game. After 2e, almost every game I've played in or run started above level 1, even if not much above it.

So I have the Martial Powers book.

Yeah, but unless everyone else is at -(bloodied), he can just heal them (and himself) up. He IS a Warlord, after all. It's not complete invincibility, but it does seem to make it astronomically unlikely that anything reasonable could ever defeat you.
