    PCs breeze through my monster!

Another tactic I like to employ is to never, ever, allow the party to go up against the BBEG at full strength, unless the find some clever way to circumvent his defenses (always reward clever play). Granted, this might not have saved your bacon in this case, but it is a good rule of thumb. This...

    Gates: Multiple Primes?

If you're looking for more inspiration, you'll really want to go back and look at the first book, especially the character Alaan, I think his name was. Also, the river, which plays a central role in the story, has some of the characteristics of a gate that can lead travelers on different paths...

    Gates: Multiple Primes?

More info please...looking for something very similar to this for a campaign I'm working on. Ever read any of the One Kingdom series by Sean Russell...if so, you'll know where I'm coming from.

    d&d and terrorism

Not exactly. The fact is, Jesus was called "Nazarene" because he was from Nazareth. But, I see you've played the Fancy Title card, so I acquiesce to your superior education. Thanks. Munin Some guy.

    d&d and terrorism

Hmm, so much goodness I don't even know where to start... Steel_Wind, good point about escalation: you don't need to start off with fancy magic spells to wreak havoc. For a terror offensive like that, though, I imagine an oppressed minority or racial group as the main culprit. Imagine the lowly...

    d&d and terrorism

In hindsight I should have been a little more specific in my definition of 'terrorist'. I was thinking of the modern stereotype. I know it's nothing new, but it is a particular scourge of the 20th and 21st century. It is the sensational aspect of this form of violence that grabs my attention...

    d&d and terrorism

Despite the sensational title, this post has nothing to do with politics in any way. I'm only trying to take a frightening aspect of this world and mold it to d&d. From a technological standpoint, terrorism is a product of the modern age. Without access to the explosives, planes, rapid...

oFF topic: Flordia Hurricane #2 inbound...

I live in Jacksonville, Florida. Right now it looks like I've dodged another bullet. I was down in the southern part of the state after Mr. C, and I'm ready to go again. Chainsaw, check duct tape, check Spam, check Yup, I'm ready.

    fun with harpies

There is a harpy in the MM that has 7 levels of fighter. My players will be seeing that one. Thanks for all the stories. I'll post again after the session and let you know how it turned out.

    fun with harpies

As resourceful as my players are, I'd be really surprised if they got handled by the harpies. It's really just a 'soften 'em up' type of encounter. But who knows? They might just get their tails handed to them. Nice encounter with the lighthouse. Those are the kind of encounters I like to run.

    help fleshing out a dungeon

Fire elementals are in. A trap leading to the final level that involves 4 continuously lite iron braziers. If the trap is not disarmed, the elementals are summoned via the braziers. I plan on using constructs for the final battle, but I was thinking more along the lines of Helmed Horrors from...

    help fleshing out a dungeon

Good idea. I want to include a couple of traps, this sounds like a good one. This is an excellent idea. What about a creature that is the opposite of shadow stuff? Something that is similar to a shade but is made out of light? Another good idea. I'll describe this level as serene and beautiful...

    help fleshing out a dungeon

Here's the backstory: In this campaign world, the main force driving things is a continual struggle between dragonkind and the 'lesser' races. This is a rare-magic world, which gives the dragonkind an upper hand in the conflict. To even things out a bit, the Gods stepped in and gifted upon the...

    About ... your table

Ah, the game table is an often overlooked element of the gaming experience. Like JD, my group is pretty laid back. We lounge on comefy chairs, sofas and even bean bags. When battle starts, we break out a fold out table and use Tact Tiles. I highly recommend you check them out if you haven't done...
