The First Rule Of Gencon Is:

The second rule is: bawls. Lots and lots of Bawls. Don't share.

    Population density in your setting?

The largest city IMC has an urban population of more than a million people. The theme of the setting is 'larger than life': massive mountain chains that dwarf the tallest on earth; huge, dense forests that span for thousands of square miles, canyons thousands of feet deep, etc. The world is...

Proportion of your rpg purchases online/FLGS

The only products I buy online are pdfs or out of print. I'm close friends with the owner of my FLGS, so it is a sharp sense of loyalty, wanting to support local gaming, that I do, even though I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere.

How to pronounce (insert word here)? - the master list [merged]

I have trouble with several of the demon species. Babau comes to mind. Is it Bab-oo as in baboon without the 'n' or bab-oh?

    Creative Spellcasting

In the last session I ran, the party walked through a 'trick' portal. They went to one destination, while their clothes went to another. Not to be outdone, the wizard cast Unseen Servant with a command to follow him with two large leaves: one covering his groin and the other his behind.

Scarred Lands: Ask the Sage [This keeps up, I'm gonna need a bigger notebook!]

Thanks for the help, I'll check out Echos of the Past this weekend. I'm taking the Slarecians totally out of context of the Scarred Lands. I have to admit that my fascination with the race is purely aesthetic. They have a wickedly intelligent look about them, but not an out right evil look...

Scarred Lands: Ask the Sage [This keeps up, I'm gonna need a bigger notebook!]

Question: I'm looking for some info on the Slarecians. I only have CCI&II right now, so my knowledge is rather limited. I've been intrigued by them ever since I first read about them, and now I'm interested in dropping them into my present campaign as planet-hopping, demon-worshipping bad guys...

    Flowcharts and Adventure Design

I was on a flowchart kick awhile back, and while I do find it helpful, it also means an awful lot of work is wasted, because you end up charting out possible encounters that never see the light of day. I just don't have that kind of time. Like the previous posters, I focus on what the baddies...

    On portal construction

I like that. My players will hate it, but I really, really like it. Any more ideas?

Wow, thanks for all the good tips! The Bam website is definitely worth checking out.

    On portal construction

Sorry, I should have mentioned that at the outset, but only permanent portals would be affected by the framework rule. Gate would work as written. I like your idea about blood from planar creatures, but in this campaign the BBEG is trying to build a portal to another world on the Prime. A...

    On portal construction

The group ranger has an animal companion that is part Blink Dog. That could make things interesting :) Not sure what you mean by essence of wanderlust, but I'm curious. I'll take a look at that FR supplement. I need all the info I can get at this point.

    On portal construction

I’m using the FRCS as my source of info on Portals, if you know of a better one, or one that goes into more detail, please share. The FRCS states that for a standard two-way portal, one must spend 75,000gp on construction materials and the like. What I want to find out is what materials would...

Have the PCs in your party seen each other naked?

It's funny that you mention it. In my D&D campaign, my players spent the first half of the last adventure walking around in the buff. Basically, it was a modyfied portal that sent their bodies to one location and their clothes to another. It was roleplayed well, giving the players a chance to...

    roleplaying magazines

I have been to roleplayingtips, and I have to say that is about the best resource I know of right now. I'm just looking for a little more :) If I may ask, what is the difference in focus between the Enworld Player's Journal and the Enworld Gamer?

    roleplaying magazines

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that, but since you brought it up...I subscribe to both of these, and while they are good for what they do, they don't help me be a better DM. Dragon has one or two articles that help out now and again, but that's about it. Which is odd, considering that...

    roleplaying magazines

I'm interested in finding out what periodicals you guys are reading, specifically those geared towards the DM. It can be online or print, the medium used isn't important to me. Thanks, Munin

    Favorite non-human PHB race.

This is a tough one for me. Not a single race from the PHB is how I imagine them to be, so I always change them in some way. Take dwarves for example. I've never fought a giant, and I've never set hand to a smithy in game, and I've played several dwarves. Elves seem to make better rogues than...

    Published Adventures and You

Not entirely on subject, but since a professional writer started the thread.... I firmly believe that premade adventures are essential to the health of d&d. Most of the complaints so far boil down to the fact that modules are basic and formulaic in nature, but that is just what the...

    Is D&D good?

Not to steal the thread but... after following the link to the stackpole report in Fransica's post, I finally got the inside joke on this forum between members of B.A.D.D. (Bothered About Disposable Dragons) and BADD (Bothered About Dungeons & Dragons) Anyways, time to clean the mountain dew...
