Most common house rules and Weapon Finesse.

Sorry for committing such severe thread necromancy but I wanted to suggest another possible implementation for Weapon Finesse. What if Weapon Finesse was like a reverse Power Attack? Basically, you would sacrifice damage for a higher chance to hit.

Shadow Jump is breaking up friendships

If there's a light source powerful enough to generate shadows, I would restrict movement within those shadows. If it's pitch black, with no other source of light, I would allow free movement.

Shadow Jump is breaking up friendships

With such radically different players, a middle ground will be unsatisfactory at best. Based on the ability's other restrictions, I would allow him to count complete darkness as a shadow to jump around in. For starters, using the full distance empties you for the day. Using it more than once...

    D&D 3.x 3e D&D was right about cats!

That's certainly a strange story, considering feral cats usually want nothing to do with humans... Even that one time where I approached a mother with her kittens, the mother stayed behind observing me while the kittens ran away.

    Do Not Pass Go

To be fair, it's unnatural for someone to have no flaws. Some people feel a need to have their own place in society. When faced with someone who can do everything they can do AND more, it makes them feel useless. Although I admit this list is a nice set of guidelines on how you can be a better...

    why touch attacks?

I personally see it as taking the mechanics from the Meteor Swarm spell and simplifying them to : "Avoid with Touch AC or take full damage".

    why touch attacks?

Attack rolls? As in, instead of the DM rolling for success, the player does? With the same mechanics otherwise? Personally, I've been wondering how it would work out if area attack spells, such as fireball, targeted Touch AC rather than Reflex. They are, after all, attacks and not effects.

    why touch attacks?

The way I see it, Reflex saves and Touch AC can both exist if the former is reasoned into the following way. Reflex saves should be just that. Your reflexes. A sudden event, such as a sprung trap, catches you by surprise and you must avoid it right now or suffer the consequences.

    Steal This Rule: Trust

There is a mechanically simple way of implementing this. When you visit the faction's ally, you start at Trust Level * 50% with them. This is basically equivalent to the ally trusting you but still needing proof of your skills before they let you in on their more important matters.

    Marionnen's Musings: Feats as Rewards

From what I could read, you were saying the players should get about the same number of feats as they would with the core rules. Does that include class feats or only normal feats?

    Marionnen's Musings: Feats as Rewards

One way we could apply this is that whenever characters gain a level, they can take on a quest to earn their feat.

    Marionnen's Musings: Featless?

I've seen a custom rule where you get feats based on your BAB. That is, you get a feat every time your BAB increases. Nothing more, nothing less.

Unearthed Arcana. I like all the optional rules.

Tavern - City of Orussus, The Red Dragon Inn 2010-17

Arthur Human Rogue 1 Arthur nods his thanks and turns to Rasereit. "While I wasn't the one to kill them, the ones in my party who did have run off. Sadly, that means I had to clean their blunder for them." Searching through his belongings, he hands Rasereit a potion. "This is sadly all my...

Tavern - City of Orussus, The Red Dragon Inn 2010-17

Arthur Human Rogue 1 Seeing that the two dogs are seemingly alive and well, Arthur lets out a sigh of relief. "At least that's one problem solved...who is responsible for their recovery?"

Tavern - City of Orussus, The Red Dragon Inn 2010-17

Arthur Human Rogue 1 Arthur steps in, looking weary. "*Sigh* For better or worse, Arthur returns..." Someone who listens would detect a hint of sarcasm. He then scans the tavern. "Has anyone brought in two wounded dogs?"

Edwyd's Pie Parade Brigade II [DM: Rae] [Judge: Trouvere]

At least we made it to the end. Time spent aside, this was one of the better games of D&D I've played. The DM I used to play with tended to make the players feel like they were constantly in over their heads. This game was a nice change of pace. And uh, If I got this right, I'm now a level 2...

Edwyd's Pie Parade Brigade II [DM: Rae] [Judge: Trouvere]

It's cool. I'm just worried about whether or not Arthur will be able to remain in town since he was tied to the whole dog fiasco and Edwyd said he might get visited by the local law.

Edwyd's Pie Parade Brigade II [DM: Rae] [Judge: Trouvere]

Arthur accepts the coins and says "Thanks for the revenue. If I remember well, one of the departed guards paid a man to deliver the dogs at the inn. Since we've been busy for a good while after their demise, would you know of a dealer in wares of recovery? Assuming they're still alive..."...
