D&D 5E (2014) The new Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set - and online tools?

Relevant Quote from RPGPundit on Google+ "What’s going to happen is neither exactly an online chargen tool or an SRD (actually, either of those may or may not be in the works, I can neither confirm nor deny that, but that’s not what Mike Mearls was talking about).Wizards is NOT “still working...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

The Wizards Premier Retail Program or something like that has the relevant details. Basically, it says that you get product two weeks in advance. Mearls has confirmed it on twitter as well; players who have a store in their area could have their PH prior to GenCon.

    D&D 5E (2014) [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

Note; the Player's Handbook will be available on August 5th at local stores that are findable using the "store locator" on Wizards' website. This is two weeks before Amazon is allowed to ship books to folks who pre-ordered.

    D&D 5E (2014) [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

Nope; it has to do with another retail program Wizards of the Coast as a whole runs (Premier Store Program). Both of the LGS I've seen get stuff early do not do Encounters. Wizards launched a program that gets D&D products 2 weeks in advance to stores that run any kind of sanctioned events...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

Also note that you will be able to buy all of the books 2-3 weeks earlier from a local game store before you can buy them from Amazon. Wizards does have a deal where local game stores end up getting product prior to big retailers. So the PH officially comes out August 19th, but will probably...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

Bingo. I think I'll enjoy it when Paizo AP writers end up writing stuff for 5E. ;) (I think this will happen, personally)

    D&D 5E (2014) [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

Yeah - that was going a little too far. Thankfully the books are going for $40 on Amazon; so hopefully GM will be able to get the books as desired.

    D&D 5E (2014) [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

There was no intent to offend, so I apologize if it came off like that. $50 is pretty expensive; I am not saying that it isn't. I am just pointing out that everyone sort of immediately assumed the price of the books was $50, and didn't wait for Amazon to adjust the price of the books, which...

Note, all books are now $40 on Amazon, not $50.

Y'all will be able to make characters in the starter set. :D Not sure as to anything beyond that, or how limited the character creation bit is (might be only pre-gen classes and pre-gen races), but AFAIK the starter set will have character creation.

I think I can say that they do have a plan.

    D&D 5E (2014) [Merged] D&D Next/5E Release Schedule Threads

I believe that you will be able to make (low-level) characters from the starter set; at least based on the scuttlebutt I've heard at the LGS. Excited for the adventures; people will be very pleasantly surprised at the quality, IMO. I think the price for the PH will drop to 40 on Amazon...

D&D 5E (2014) Street date for D&D Next Starter Game is July 15

I also think this is the case; I am guessing the MM and PH will be released at the same time.

    D&D 5E (2014) L&L for 5/12

Based on everything I seen; he is spot on with that assessment.

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Q&A with D&D R&D

FWIW; I'm almost certain they do not need 3 - 4 months lead time. (Based on...things I can't exactly talk about). That said, I would be surprised if they make GenCon 2014. I think they are taking the Blizzard approach of "it's done when it is done". As for @Jester Canuck - I know we've...

Rolling for Initiative--'Pathfinder' and the 5th Coming of 'Dungeons & Dragons'

Pretty much what Iosue said. You might be in a different situation, but at least in the Seattle area (going from Tacoma to Everett), most of the game stores will point you towards Pathfinder when asked about D&D. No store is going to point a prospective new customer towards an edition that the...

Pathfinder 1E Mythic Pathfinder = how to break a game

My roommates are starting Wrath of the Righteous - and while the original poster has other issues (not liking PF, for instance), the insistence on how ridiculous Mythic characters are is not being overstated. The mythic monsters are...well, bad, to put it nicely (they are either completely in...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outsold D&D by 2:1 in 2013

Also, more importantly, WotC has Magic the Gathering, which plays on a completely different level than any of these products. From my understanding, much of D&D's funding comes from Magic. DDI is still a fairly big subscription model; most of the people I know who got it still have it...

Rolling for Initiative--'Pathfinder' and the 5th Coming of 'Dungeons & Dragons'

It doesn't hurt that there has been no active brand "D&D" game for players to currently buy, either. Right now, if someone comes into a store looking for D&D, they get shown the PF Core Book. That might explain a significant aspect of current growth. I do agree that a healthy D&D is much...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore Article 4/1/14 (Fighter Maneuvers)

I can confirm the article is not a joke. :) Most of the people I've seen tend to roll w/ simpler fighters, but the option of having a tactical fighter is cool. I've played one for a few sessions, and it's a blast.
