Chicago Gameday - 11/09/02 (now including the Castle Brawl photos link!)

Mmm... this sounds like a lot of fun. If there's any space left, put me down for the breakfast meet. As a GM, I'd like to offer a d20 Dragonstar game, with a twist. The PC's will be young dragons who get caught up in the brewing chaos that threatens to rip the Dragon Empire apart. Lots of...

SKR's problem with certain high level encounters

I don't know about this. I read SKR's article and I have to agree that he makes a valid point if you pare the rant down to its core. It's hard to design high level encounters. The one that immediately springs to my mind was the experience I had playing through "The Bastion of Broken Souls," the...

    A Question About Freelance Editors

I'm hoping I can get some publishers and some editors to field this one. What is the demand like for an editor's services in the d20 market? Are there any publishers out there who contract out their line editing and rules editing to freelancers? Editors - what's your take on this? Is there...

    Chicago Gaming Stores

So I'm going to need my fix when I get there. Where can I buy gaming stuff in Chicago?

    Chicago

Anime d20, huh? Like a D&D game with some anime influences? Or are we talking BESM here? <g> Either way, I'll give it a try!

    Chicago

Moving to Chicago! Hi, guys, So I'm going to be moving into Chicago on August 10. I'll be living in Lincoln Park, at 1040 W. Granville Avenue. And I need a gaming group! Anyway, I'll give almost anything a try, and might even be persuaded to run a game. So if you're a group looking to add a...

    Kalamar Players' Guide

I grabbed a copy of the Kalamar Players' Guide recently, and while it was definitely worth my money, there are some things about it that I don't understand. 1. Why, if the book refers to them in a number of places, does it completely leave the Monk out of the description of the classes? 2...

    D&D Market Analysis (Adventure Levels)

Agreed. Designing an adventure for PC's with access to scrying, teleportation, and divination magic is really difficult without creating bizarre environmental conditions that mysteriously thwart such things (Labyrinth of Madness, anyone?). Plus it's hard to come up with a decent challenge for...

    The Next big thing...

Maybe, maybe not. There will certainly be a lot of new stuff in the Epic book, but judging by Deities & Demigods, none of it really alters the game system. It's all built out of the same parts.

    The Next big thing...

I got a look at the Freeport: City of Adventure book last week. I agree... more like that would be wonderful. Unfortunately, between Hero 5th and Deities & Demigods, Freeport had to wait. In retrospect, I wish I had left Deities & Demigods on the shelf and grabbed Freeport instead.

Best D&D/d20 event based published adventures

So, Psion... you going to answer your own question? I haven't really encountered too many "event based" adventures out there, so I don't really know what I would pick.

    The Next big thing...

No idea what they're going to "officially" release. It really depends on what the epic handbook does with D&D. As it stands, there's nothing stopping you from, for example, making a prestige class that requires 25 ranks, the ability to cast 15 9th level spells in a day, or something obscene...

    OD&D Immortals...D&Dg or ELH?

Well, from what I've read of Deities and Demigods, it pretty much *is* the Wrath of the Immortals rules for deific advancement, updated and polished for 3rd edition. You have deific ranks, which are sort of like extra powers stacked on top of your class levels. It seems fully compatible with...

    The Next big thing...

My guess - give it a few months and we're going to see lots of high-powered stuff for all the new epic characters.

    Hero 5th sightings

I ran into Steven Long this past weekend. He was a guest at Round Con in Columbia, SC (http://www.roundcon.org) and those of us who were multiclass gamer/attorneys got together over dinner and looked over the new book. A few first impressions: 1. It's huge. It looks to be about the size of...

Who was your first RPG Charcater and what ever happened to him/her

Wow... my first character... I still have that old sheet someplace. Kithian D'Arran was a human thief from our old AD&D1 game when all we had was the PHB, DMG, MM (just the first one), and I think we had a copy of FR Adventures for campaign setting. Kithian's been a harper, a spy, a beggar...

What do you want to see in D20 Dragonlance?

I remember someone (I think it was Monte Cook) said that a D&D 3rd character comes into his own at around 5th level. So how about this for the three Solamnic orders? Make 3 separate, 5 level classes with scaling requirements. For example, Crown could require a BAB of +5, Sword +10, and Rose...

What do you want to see in D20 Dragonlance?

As far as I could tell, the 18th level limit only existed in the Dragonlance Adventures hardcover. All the classes listed in the Tales of the Lance set had level progressions up to 25th, and a number of NPC's (Fistandantilus, Ariakas, etc.) were well above 18th level. So why not just ditch the...
